Take it all into account and it seems to me California owes the oil companies approximately 174 gazillion trillion dollars.

Anytime someone brings this up I ask them to explain what a 1.5 degree temperature change is going to do. Once they’ve done their little song and dance I point out that the average annual temperature fluctuation in a temperate climate is roughly a hundred plus degrees and wait for them to process that information.
I assume there must be someone out there who is capable of coming up with some sort of plausible explanation about why the former is a concern while the latter is not, but in all these years no one ever has.
