I know nothing about art, but I do know something about English language, so please don’t take this as criticism. The word you are looking for is “complementary” colours. To complement means “to make complete”. So, in maths, 60 degrees and 30 degrees are complementary angles, because together they make a complete right angle.
For the other non-artists here, if you want to know what colours are complementary, stare for a while at a coloured image, then at a plain white surface. You will see the after-image of your object on that surface in its complementary colour (blue/yellow, green/red, etc).
