Smart > Dumb

Guest Post by Kurt Schlichter

The sad truth is that some people in our party are stupid. Statistically, that is inevitable since the parties are about evenly split. When you have 50% of the population, you’re going to have a certain percentage of the idiots. Well, the Republican Party is undoubtedly statistically within the band of normal, because we sure have our share of nitwits. And I’m tired of them.

Look at the House of Representatives. However, some people aren’t willing to accept the reality. For a number of reasons, including stupid choices by our voters and dumb actions by party leaders and politicians, we have a mere five-seat majority in the House. We should’ve had a huge majority in the House, considering the historical trends and the political climate in 2022. Still, being the Stupid Party, the Republicans were stupid and only got five seats above even. It is what it is.

My Party: The Stupid Party!

Guest Post by Ann Coulter

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is being pressured by idiots like Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert to impeach Biden for his son Hunter’s sleazy foreign dealings — and thus decimate the reelection chances of every other Republican in Congress. But MTG and Boebert will have tremendous fun doing it and get lots of press, and after all, isn’t that the most important thing?

Meanwhile, the not-stupid — but unfocused — conservative Freedom Caucus is threatening to shut down the government unless they get concessions, primarily cuts in government spending.

I have a secret for you, GOP: No one cares about government spending. I’m sure it’s important, and there are probably a hundred Wall Street Journal articles explaining why, but not more than 1% of voters will ever reward you for cutting spending.

The Conservatives’ Game of Chicken Pays Off, We Hope

Guest Post by Kurt Schlichter

With the advantage of a week of hindsight, the resolution of the Speaker fight was always pretty clear. The Speaker, for a variety of reasons, needed to be Kevin McCarthy, and he needed to agree to rules and other arrangements that ensured that the house would no longer be the ironfisted, establishment-friendly Speaktatorship of Boehner, Ryan, and Pelosi. McCarthy had to compromise, and the Rebels had to accept a compromise, and the standoff had to end. And it did. And the new rules were passed. Ever the optimist, in retrospect we Republicans may be off to strong start.

Or the GOP could blow it. As Wesley Snipes famously said in “Passenger 57,” “Always bet on Republicans to screw up.

Or black. Whatever.

The Republicans’ Mitch McConnell Problem

Guest Post by Kurt Schlichter

One of the annoying tendencies of our conservative-populist movement is to conflate objective evaluations of individuals in the arena with the approval of those individuals. For years, I have found Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell to be a frustrating and imperious charter member of the GOP establishment while simultaneously being the best parliamentary leader we have had in living memory. He has done important things for the movement. I get a lot of grief for saying, “You must love Mitch!” but that’s fine. We need to be objective instead of emotional – we’re not Democrats. And he was objectively skilled and effective once upon a time. Who else could keep a caucus that ranged from maple syrup-moderate Susan Collins, to based Show-Me State conservative Josh Hawley mostly together? Who else was tough enough to hold out under the pressure of the entire regime media to let Obama appoint the odious Merrick Garland to SCOTUS?

Omnibus shows Congress’s Priorities: Authoritarianism and War

Guest Post by Ron Paul

Those hoping for a Christmastime government shutdown were once again disappointed when Congress passed a 4,000-page, $1.7 trillion omnibus appropriations bill that few, if any, Representatives and Senators read before voting on. The Republican leadership celebrated this bloated monstrosity because it spends $858 billion on warfare while “only” spending $772.5 billion on welfare.

No one should think Republican insistence on more warfare than welfare spending means Democrats oppose the warfare state. Under President Biden and a Democrat-controlled Congress, “defense” spending has increased by 4.3 percent over the last two years. Similarly, every Republican President in recent years—including two who had a Republican-controlled Congress for at least part of their term—supported huge increases in welfare state spending. Most Democrats only pretend to oppose warfare and most Republicans only pretend to oppose welfare to appease their parties’ respective bases.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — According to sources in Washington, Republicans in Congress are livid at the irresponsible spending in a $1.7 trillion omnibus bill they just voted for.

“This bill, which we passed easily and without a fight, is an absolute disaster,” said Senator Mitch McConnell in a statement. “How does stuff like this get passed, anyway? It might remain a mystery forever. Anyway, time to go home for Christmas!”
