It’s as if the lesson of the previous bubble was completely forgotten in a couple years. Are these people really that dumb? The housing market started rolling over six months ago. Prices peaked, new single family home sales peaked, existing home sales peaked and the Wall Street investors are exiting stage left. Now the very same Wall Street hucksters want you to borrow against the artificially inflated value of your house and spend that money on more shit you don’t need, or to lease a brand new Escalade. HELOC Share of Total Loans at Highest Level Since 2008

Biggest Jumps in Inland California, Las Vegas, Cincinnati, Phoenix

RVINE, Calif. – Oct. 9, 2014 — RealtyTrac® (www.realtytrac.com), the nation’s leading source for comprehensive housing data, today released its first-ever U.S. Home Equity Line of Credit Trends Report, which found that in the 12 months ending in June 2014 a total of 797,865 Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOCs) were originated nationwide, up 20.6 percent from a year ago and the highest level since the 12 months ending in June 2009.

The report also shows HELOC originations accounted for 15.4 percent of all loan originations nationwide during the first eight months of 2014, the highest percentage since 2008.

“This recent rise in HELOC originations indicates that an increasing number of homeowners are gaining confidence in the strength of the housing recovery and, more importantly, have regained much of their home equity lost during the housing crisis,” said Daren Blomquist. “Nearly 10 million homeowners nationwide, representing 19 percent of all homeowners with a mortgage, now have at least 50 percent equity in their homes, according to RealtyTrac data. Meanwhile the percentage of homeowners with severe negative equity has decreased from 29 percent in the second quarter of 2012 to 17 percent in the second quarter of this year.

“The rise in HELOCs also reflects a natural evolution for a lending industry looking for products they can offer to homeowners who have already refinanced their first position loan into a low fixed rate,” Blomquist added. “A HELOC enables homeowners to leverage additional equity they may have gained since refinancing while still preserving the rock-bottom interest rate on their first position loan.”

Among the nation’s 50 largest metropolitan statistical areas with HELOC data available, 49 posted year-over-year increases in HELOC originations in the 12 months ending in June 2014. The only metro area with a decrease was Rochester, N.Y., where HELOC originations decreased 1 percent.

Metro areas with the biggest year-over-year increase in HELOC originations were Riverside-San Bernardino in Southern California (87.7% increase), Las Vegas (85.1% increase), Cincinnati (81.0% increase), Sacramento (65.1% increase), and Phoenix (60.1% increase).

Major metros with the smallest increases in HELOC originations from a year ago were Minneapolis-St. Paul (0.2 percent increase), Louisville, Ky., (3.3 percent increase), Philadelphia (3.6 percent increase), Virginia Beach (4.3 percent increase), and St. Louis (5.6 percent increase).

Despite the year-over-year increases, HELOC originations were well below their peaks from the previous housing boom. Nationwide, the 797,865 HELOC originations in the 12 months ending in June 2014 were 76 percent below the previous peak of 3,299,007 in the 12 months ending in June 2006. The 15.4 percent share of HELOCs year-to-date nationwide was also below the 24.7 percent share in 2005.

HELOC originations were below their previous peaks in 49 out of the nation’s 50 largest metro areas. The only exception was Pittsburgh, where HELOC originations reached a new peak in the 12 months ending in June 2014.

Major metro areas with the biggest decrease in HELOC originations in 2014 compared to their previous peaks were Riverside-San Bernardino (down 93 percent), Las Vegas (down 92.9 percent), Miami (down 92.5 percent), Tucson, Ariz., (down 92.4 percent), and Orlando (down 92.2 percent).

Among the nation’s 50 largest metro areas, those with the highest share of HELOC originations as a percentage of all loan originations year-to-date in 2014 were Honolulu (43.5 percent), Rochester, N.Y., (38.7 percent), Buffalo, N.Y., (32.1 percent), Cleveland (28.5 percent), and Milwaukee (27.5 percent).

Major metro areas with the lowest share of HELOC originations as a share of all loan originations year-to-date in 2014 were Las Vegas (5.8 percent), Dallas (6.5 percent), Riverside-San Bernardino (7.7 percent), Houston (7.9 percent), and Tucson, Ariz. (8.0 percent).

Other markets where HELOC originations represented less than 10 percent of all loan originations year-to-date in 2014 were Atlanta (8.1 percent), San Antonio (8.6 percent), Oklahoma City (9.2 percent), and Austin (9.9 percent).

Report methodology
The RealtyTrac U.S. Home Equity Line of Credit Trends Report provides counts of HELOC loans originated and the HELOC share of total loans originated using mortgage and deed of trust records collected in more than 900 counties nationwide with a combined population of more than 240 million, representing 78 percent of the U.S. population. Home Equity Lines of Credit are non-purchase loans that are secured by the equity (the appraised market value of that property minus any other loans secured by that property) and can be used by homeowners to fund home improvement projects or other purchases.

STARBUCKS IS A REFLECTION OF OUR SOCIETY

I’ve never understood the idiocy of people spending $5 for a cup of flavored water. I drink two or three cups of coffee per day, but I never buy it at Starbucks or any other retail outlet. I scoop some coffee into a filter and fill my coffee maker with water from the tap. My cup of coffee costs 10 cents and gives me the same caffeine surge as a pretentious overpriced Starbucks Triple, Venti, Half Sweet, Non-Fat, Caramel Macchiato or a Non-Fat Frappuccino With Extra Whipped Cream And Chocolate Sauce.

Walking around with a Starbucks cup in your hand is just another example of shallow math challenged people pathetically attempting to let others think they are successful and cool by flaunting that they can piss money away on flavored water with a fancy name. I guess it boosts their egos. Wasting money on such things is a reflection of a society of waste, egotism, shallowness, short range thinking, and ignorance. When you read the statistics about Boomer retirement savings averaging less than $50,000 and hear the sob stories about needing the government to support them, you just need a calculator and basic knowledge of math to see the impact of buying two Starbuck coffees per day versus saving that money. By brewing two cups at home versus buying two cups at Starbucks and investing the savings for 30 years with a 4% annual return, you end up with $50,000 to $100,000 of savings by retirement. This is just one example of the frivolous expenditures made by the ignorant masses without thought for the long-term consequences. The chart below reveals a few more things to me. When the Fed is blowing bubbles and the people feel wealthy because their home price is rising or their stock portfolio is growing, the wealth effect convinces them to waste money on non-essential crap. You can see what happened to Starbucks when the financial system collapsed in 2009. Their sales went flat as they continued to add thousands of stores. Profits crashed and the CEO was shitcanned. They closed almost 400 stores as the reverse wealth effect convinced millions of morons to stop wasting money on overpriced flavored water.

But Bennie came to the rescue and began printing fiat at hyper-speed. The return of easy money, rising prices for McMansions, and expanding portfolios for the 1% have led to increased revenues and profits for Starbucks. The delusional masses never learn their lesson. I wonder how many frappuccinos they will be selling after the next financial collapse?

What would you think if your 8-year-old came home and told you that “white privilege is something that white people have, meaning they have an advantage in a lot of things and they can get a job more easily”? You would have heard that at the recent 15th annual White Privilege Conference in Madison, Wisconsin, attended by 2,500 public-school teachers, administrators and students from across the nation (http://tinyurl.com/lkoqj9b).

The average parent has no idea of the devious indoctrination going on in classrooms in many public schools. What follows are some of the lessons of the conference.

In one of the workshops, “Examining White Privilege and Building Foundations for Social Justice Thinking in the Elementary Classroom,” educators Rosemary Colt and Diana Reeves told how teachers can “insert social justice, anti-racist information” into their lessons that “even little kids” can understand.

Kim Radersma, a former high-school English teacher, hosted a session titled “Stories from the front lines of education: Confessions of a white, high school English teacher.” She said that teaching is a purely political act and that neutral people should “get the f—- out of education.” (http://tinyurl.com/q5adt2d). She also explained: “Being a white person who does anti-racist work is like being an alcoholic. I will never be recovered by my alcoholism, to use the metaphor. I have to every day wake up and acknowledge that I am so deeply embedded with racist thoughts and notions and actions in my body that I have to choose every day to do anti-racist work and think in an anti-racist way” (http://tinyurl.com/q4z969q).

But the propaganda and lunacy go even deeper. Jacqueline Battalora, professor of sociology and criminal justice at Saint Xavier University, informed conference participants that “white people did not exist before 1681. Again, white people did not exist on planet earth until 1681″ (http://tinyurl.com/lkoqj9b). That’s truly incredible. If Professor Battalora is correct, how are we to identify William Shakespeare (1564), Sir Isaac Newton (1642), John Locke (1632), Leonardo da Vinci (1452) and especially dear Plato (428 B.C.)? Were these men people of color, or did they not exist?

John A. Powell, a University of California, Berkeley law professor, told his audience, “And right now, I’m going to suggest to you that race is driving almost everything that’s happening in the country.” He explained the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans by saying, “They took money away from protecting the levees because the levees were protecting black people.”

Stephanie Baran’s message to conference participants was that capitalism is the cause of racism in the world today. This adjunct professor at Kankakee Community College, who calls herself a vulgar Marxist, added that racism was invented in Colonial America by white capitalists as a tool to divide labor and keep the working class in their place.

Educator Paul Kivel explained what he sees as Christian hegemony, saying, “Very simply, I define it as the everyday pervasive, deep-seated and institutionalized dominance of Christian values, Christian institutions, leaders and Christians as a group, primarily for the benefit of Christian ruling elites.”

Speaker Leonard Zeskind, citing work done by the MacIver Institute, explained that “the longer you are in the tea party the more racist you become.” He added, “Parents put their kids in private schools because they’re racist.”

University of Iowa Professor Adrien Wing gave some of her observations about white privilege, asking, “Does having a black president change that? Has it changed that? Unfortunately, it hasn’t. … (President Obama) ends up being the front man for the system. … He works for the master of the system of white privilege.”

I can’t imagine people being stupid enough to believe all that was said at the White Privilege Conference. There’s something else at work. I think it’s white guilt. Federal Court Dismisses Case of Chicago School Teacher Who Was Suspended, Accused of Weapons Possession for Lesson on Wrenches, Pliers

CHICAGO, Ill. — An Illinois federal court has ruled that Chicago school officials did not violate the rights of a second-grade teacher who was charged with possessing weapons on school grounds after he displayed garden-variety tools such as wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers in his classroom as part of his second grade teaching curriculum that required a “tool discussion.” In granting a motion to dismiss the complaint in Douglas Bartlett v. City of Chicago School District #299, U.S. District Court Judge Robert Dow, Jr., held that school officials at Washington Irving Elementary School acted properly when they applied a definition of “weapons” contained in a student handbook to the actions of teacher Douglas Bartlett.

Attorneys for The Rutherford Institute filed the civil rights lawsuit in April 2013 on behalf of Bartlett, a 17-year veteran in the classroom, who was suspended without pay for four days on the grounds that his use of the tools as visual aids endangered his students, despite the fact that all potentially hazardous items were kept out of the students’ reach.

“In an age where public schools face an unprecedented number of real challenges in maintaining student discipline, and addressing threats of real violence, surely no one benefits from trumped up charges where no actual ‘weapons’ violation has occurred and no threat is posed to any member of the school community,” said John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute and author of A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State. “This school district’s gross overreaction to a simple teaching demonstration on basic tools such as wrenches and pliers underscores exactly what is wrong with our nation’s schools. Education truly suffers when school administrators exhibit such poor judgment and common sense, especially when it comes to their zealous misapplication of misguided zero tolerance policies. However, what makes this case stand out from the rest is that this victim of zero tolerance policies run amok happens to be a veteran school teacher.”

Doug Bartlett teaches second graders at Washington Irving Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois. On August 8, 2011, Bartlett displayed several garden-variety tools he used around the classroom, including wrenches, screwdrivers, a box cutter, a 2.25” pocketknife, and pliers, as visual aids for a “tool discussion” which is required by the teaching curriculum. It is common for teachers to use such visual aids to help students retain their lessons. As he displayed the box cutter and pocketknife in particular, Bartlett specifically described the proper uses of these tools. None of the tools were made accessible to the students. When not in use, the tools were secured in a toolbox on a high shelf out of reach of the students.

On August 19, 2011, Bartlett received notice that he was under investigation for, among other things, “possessing, carrying, storing, or using a weapon,” and for negligently supervising children. Bartlett subsequently received a four-day suspension without pay. In coming to Bartlett’s defense, Rutherford Institute attorneys filed a civil rights lawsuit, challenging the constitutionality of such disciplinary action against Bartlett as a direct violation of Bartlett’s Fourteenth Amendment right to due process. Institute attorneys also pointed out that Bartlett had no intent to use the tools as weapons, nor did he ever receive notice that using such tools in an educational manner could even be construed as using a weapon.

Facebook John Winkler, a 30-year-old production assistant on the Comedy Central show ‘Tosh.0’, was reportedly gunned down by Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies who mistook him for a hostage taker.

A production assistant for Comedy Central’s “Tosh.0” was shot and killed by L.A. County sheriff’s deputies after being mistaken for a stabbing suspect.

John Winkler was reportedly trying to escape alleged attacker Alexander McDonald when he was erroneously gunned down outside his West Hollywood apartment Monday night.

The 30-year-old went to a neighbor’s home after hearing screams, to help out two friends being held captive at knife-point, according to the L.A. Times.

Authorities claim McDonald began fighting with the trio before stabbing them.

Deputies were called. After arriving at 9:30 p.m., they saw one of the men bursting out of the door – covered in blood and hemorrhaging from the neck.

Winkler followed out close behind – and appeared to be lunging at the first man.

Thinking the aspiring TV producer was the suspect because he was wearing a similar black T-shirt, three deputies opened fire – and hit both men.

Winkler was fatally wounded with a single shot. Rushed to hospital, he was soon declared dead. His friend was injured in the leg, and remains in stable condition.

Deputies then ran inside and allegedly saw McDonald choking one of the other men on the floor. They split the pair up, before arresting McDonald.

He’s since been charged with torture, murder and attempted murder – and is being held on $4 million bail, reports KTLA.

Interim Sheriff John Scott told the Los Angeles Times that the shooting was “very tragic.”

“I have no doubt the entire Sheriff’s Department mourns the death of John Winkler, none more than the deputies involved,” he added.

Winkler’s roommate Devin Richardson said his pal, who’d moved to Cali. from Washington state six months ago, was friends with two of the men taken hostage.

$6 Billion Goes Missing at State Department

The State Department has no idea what happened to $6 billion used to pay its contractors.

In a special “management alert” made public Thursday, the State Department’s Inspector General Steve Linick warned “significant financial risk and a lack of internal control at the department has led to billions of unaccounted dollars over the last six years.

The alert was just the latest example of the federal government’s continued struggle with oversight over its outside contractors.

The lack of oversight “exposes the department to significant financial risk,” the auditor said. “It creates conditions conducive to fraud, as corrupt individuals may attempt to conceal evidence of illicit behavior by omitting key documents from the contract file. It impairs the ability of the Department to take effective and timely action to protect its interests, and, in tum, those of taxpayers.”

In the memo, the IG detailed “repeated examples of poor contract file administration.” For instance, a recent investigation of the closeout process for contracts supporting the mission in Iraq, showed that auditors couldn’t find 33 of the 115 contract files totaling about $2.1 billion. Of the remaining 82 files, auditors said 48 contained insufficient documents required by federal law.

In another instance, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement issued a $1 billion contract in Afghanistan that was deemed “incomplete.”

The auditor recommended that the State Department establish a centralized system to track, maintain and retain contract files.

The department responded and said it concurred with the recommendations to address the “vulnerability” in its contracting process.

Before Linick took office last fall, the State Department had been without an inspector general position for five years—the longest IG vacancy in the government’s history, as noted in The Washington Post.

PHILA GOV’T DRONES TICKET YOU TO DEATH & AFTER DEATH

We already know Philadelphia and every other urban shithole in this country is run by dumbass liberal Democratic politicians of color. The government union drones are generally incompetent, overpaid, ignorant and have no interest in serving the taxpayers who pay their bloated salaries and pensions.

The Philadelphia Parking authority drones go above and beyond when it comes to stupidity and hate for the people they are supposed to serve. They are nothing but a revenue generating machine for the liberal utopian shithole city of Phila.

This past week they exceeded expectations on a grand scale.

It seems a 22 year old Pre-med student from Temple University, and mother of two young children, had gone missing on February 9. A statewide search was underway. Presumably the police knew the make, model, and year of her car and had entered it into some sort of database that could be accessed by the Phila Parking Authority. A search of license plate numbers would have surely revealed the car as being owned by a missing person.

It seems the boneheads at the Phila Parking Authority towed her car from downtown Phila on February 10 and for some unknown fucking reason parked it on another street near 30th Street Station. Evidently they parked it in an illegal spot because this very same group of douchenozzles then proceeded to ticket the car seven times and eventually place a a boot on the wheel for unpaid parking tickets. All of this took place over a two week period.

One little problem. The woman was dead inside the car the entire time in the driver’s seat. Not one drone at the parking authority had the wherewithal to run a check on the license plate number? These worthless schlubs felt their only duty was to generate revenue by writing 7 tickets and meeting their quota for the week.

The article in the Daily News quotes another government drone police officer desperately trying to spin this disgusting display of gross negligence and incompetence by these “public servants” by trying to convince people the tinted windows made it impossible to see the dead body in the driver’s seat. Here is a picture of the car. I can see inside the fucking windows from half a block away.

Think about this for one minute. You had at least one worthless government drone who had to tow the car. You would think he would look inside. Then you have one or more government drones placing a ticket on the windshield for seven consecutive days, with the dead woman sitting there.

And still the vast majority of ignorant Americans actually think more government in our lives will be better. Your healthcare is going to be run by these same drones.

According to the Washington Post, our Savior/President/Dictator will ignore Congress and give a 39% raise to government drones. He unilaterally wages war across the globe with his drone army. He unilaterally collects electronic data on every American. He unilaterally enforces or ignores the Obamacare law which Congress passed and he signed. He uses Executive Orders to bypass the other branches of government and disregards the will of the people. As he continues to unilaterally run this country, we inch ever closer to full dictatorship. Obama now decides the salaries of government drones based on nothing. His reasoning is beyond question. The wage should be $10.10. Not $9.50. Not $10.20. Obama knows the right salary for every American. Especially when it’s your tax dollars used to pay whatever he chooses.

“Hardworking Americans — including janitors and construction workers — working on new federal contracts will benefit from the Executive Order (EO),” the White House said in a statement. “Some examples of the hardworking people who would benefit from an EO include military base workers who wash dishes, serve food and do laundry.”

Fifteen senators wrote to Obama in the fall, saying that “profitable corporations that receive lucrative contracts from the federal government should pay all of their workers a decent wage.”

We all know that politicians know exactly what a decent wage is. Just like they know what a decent education is. Just like they know which Arab country to invade.

Obama will blather for over an hour tonight about his vision of America during his State of Disunion address. The morons in Congress will act like trained chimps, applauding, giving standing ovations, and generally confirming the fact they are nothing more than corrupt idiots representing special interests. I will not watch one second of this kabuki theater. I’d learn more watching Honey Boo Boo or Duck Dynasty.

This will be the 6th time Obama has promised the economy will be getting better next year. It seems next year never comes, as we spiral downwards at an accelerating rate.
