Microsoft silences its new A.I. bot Tay, after Twitter users teach it racism [Updated]

Microsoft’s newly launched A.I.-powered bot called Tay, which was responding to tweets and chats on GroupMe and Kik, has already been shut down due to concerns with its inability to recognize when it was making offensive or racist statements. Of course, the bot wasn’t coded to be racist, but it “learns” from those it interacts with. And naturally, given that this is the Internet, one of the first things online users taught Tay was how to be racist, and how to spout back ill-informed or inflammatory political opinions. [Update: Microsoft now says it’s “making adjustments” to Tay in light of this problem.]

In case you missed it, Tay is an A.I. project built by the Microsoft Technology and Research and Bing teams, in an effort to conduct research on conversational understanding. That is, it’s a bot that you can talk to online. The company described the bot as “Microsoft’s A.I. fam the internet that’s got zero chill!”, if you can believe that.

Tay is able to perform a number of tasks, like telling users jokes, or offering up a comment on a picture you send her, for example. But she’s also designed to personalize her interactions with users, while answering questions or even mirroring users’ statements back to them.

As Twitter users quickly came to understand, Tay would often repeat back racist tweets with her own commentary. What was also disturbing about this, beyond just the content itself, is that Tay’s responses were developed by a staff that included improvisational comedians. That means even as she was tweeting out offensive racial slurs, she seemed to do so with abandon and nonchalance.

OBAMA & HIS LIBERAL MINIONS SHOULD TEAR DOWN THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL

If Obama and his liberal minions don’t want to be hypocrites they should tear down this monument to a racist. Lincoln quotes about blacks are proof he was a racist, based upon the revisionist view of history that is in vogue among liberals and race baiters. And while they’re at it, they might as well knock down the Jefferson Monument, since he owned slaves. Then we should destroy Arlington, since it was owned by Robert E. Lee. And half the monuments at Gettysburg are Confederate. Think of all the jobs we can create destroying monuments. Krugman will be thrilled with the economic boost.

Lincoln didn’t think too highly of the black race, based on these quotes:

Most commencement speakers try to inspire students with hope for the future, but Michelle Obama brought her best race-baiting speech and made sure to indoctrinate everyone into the dreary liberal mindset.

The folks who crossed the street in fear for their safety. The clerks who kept a close eye on us in all of those department stores. The people at formal events who assumed that we were the help. My favorite part of that clip is how she whines while using the solemn cadence and tone of a black Baptist preacher. It would appear that to her, race-baiting is as tender, poignant, and profound as worshiping God.

You would think she could have focused on how lucky she is to become the First Lady but instead she focuses on the trials and tribulations of having Fox News make jokes at her expense while she vacations in Hawaii at Oprah Winfrey’s massive mansion on the dime of the taxpayer.

Gosh, I feel sorry for her, don’t you?

Maybe Google is getting a pass because they pay off these politicians and cooperate with the NSA in tracking our every move. Maybe the advertising money generated from Google ads on the MSNBC and other MSM websites is more important than reporting the truth.

Google workforce data show company is predominantly white and predominantly male

Google published data detailing the diversity of its workforce, becoming one of the first large tech firms to do so. The data confirm a widely held belief: The company is predominantly male and white.

The numbers are stark: 70% of Google employees are men, and 61% are white. The company,  in a blog post published Wednesday, concedes it still has a ways to go to meet its diversity goals: “Put simply, Google is not where we want to be when it comes to diversity, and it’s hard to address these kinds of challenges if you’re not prepared to discuss them openly, and with the facts.”

The issue of diversity in the tech industry has gained prominence during the past year, as social activists, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson, has called out Silicon Valley for its lack of racial and gender diversity and has begun pressing companies to release data about their workforce compositions.

Last week, Jackson appeared at Facebook’s annual shareholder meeting in Redwood City, Calif., to press the company to release data about its workforce, lamenting the scarcity of women and minorities in tech, especially at the executive level.

There are reasons, Google says, for its diversity deficit: Women earn roughly 18% of all computer-science degrees in the U.S., and blacks and Hispanics earn fewer than 5% of those degrees.

Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today on racist comments by Cliven Bundy reported by the New York Times.

“I used to live in North Las Vegas and it is home to some of the hardest-working people I have ever met – men and women who embody the American dream by working hard every day to build a better life for themselves and their families. By contrast, Cliven Bundy has spent decades profiting off government land while refusing to pay the same fair use fees as his fellow ranchers. Today, Bundy revealed himself to be a hateful racist. But by denigrating people who work hard and play by the rules while he mooches off public land he also revealed himself to be a hypocrite.

“To advance his extreme, hateful views, Bundy has endangered the lives of innocent women and children. This is not a game. It is the height of irresponsibility for any individual or entity in a position of power or influence to glorify or romanticize such a dangerous individual, and anyone who has done so should come to their senses and immediately condemn Bundy. For their part, national Republican leaders could help show a united front against this kind of hateful, dangerous extremism by publicly condemning Bundy.

“The bottom line is that elected officials and those in positions of power or influence have a responsibility to unite behind the basic principle that we are a country of laws, and that whatever our differences, it is unacceptable for individuals to use violence or the threat of violence to advance their radical views.”
