The Real Reason All Eyes are on Ukraine

Coming attractions for OMFGVIRUS 2: Son of OMFGVIRUS

Even many Americans in the reality-based community were blindsided when the much-hyped “invasion of Ukraine” actually came to pass, having assumed Putin would stop at recognizing the Donbass republics’ self-declared independence and giving NATO the poke in the eye it was clearly spoiling for. But things didn’t stop there. Apparently figuring now is as good a time as any to punish those responsible for the eight years of bloody war in the now-independent Donetsk and Lugansk states, Russia is taking the fight all the way to the “neo-Nazis and drug addicts” in Kiev, giving the boys (and girls) of NATO a little tingle as they wonder if perhaps they will actually be called upon to do something for the first time in their careers and lay down their lives for the likes of the Azov Battalion and the Blackwater scumbags who train them. (Yes, I know Ukraine is not a member of NATO and there is no Article 5 responsibility there. NATO doesn’t seem to know this, however).

Is Western Press Egging Putin to Fully Invade Ukraine?

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

One must wonder if the West is intentionally trying to create a full-scale European war. “Putin is furious, he thought that the whole war would be easy and everything would be done in 1-4 days,” tweeted Riho Terras, who is also the former defense chief of NATO member Estonia. They are also claiming that Putin has yet to take any major city. But from the outset, Putin’s government has made it very clear that, unlike the United States, it has no plans on occupying Ukraine. The only question for Putin is to absorb Donetsk and the Luhansk People’s Republics into Russia or to leave them as independent republics. Pentagon sources say Putin has invaded with only 30% of his troops that were on the border. If he truly wanted to crush Ukraine would send them all in.

Ukraine has been firmly in the U.S. geopolitical orbit since violent neo-Nazi protests in Kyiv’s Maidan Square resulted in the 2014 overthrow of the allegedly pro-Russian president, Viktor Yanukovych. Yet, Russia did not attempt to help the then-Ukrainian leader stay in power. As a result, anti-Russian forces came to power in Kyiv, leading the people of the Donbass region to vote in favor of leaving Ukraine.

In 2014, Russia also recognized the results of the Ukrainian presidential election, organized by the post-Maidan authorities. Mr. Lavrov even called newly elected President Petro Poroshenko the “best chance” for Ukraine. Eight years later, Russia has completely changed its rhetoric on Ukraine.

“I don’t think anyone can claim that the Ukrainian regime, since the 2014 coup d’état, represents all the people living on the territory of the Ukrainian state,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on February 22.

The reason for this change in Russian attitude is the acts that the Ukrainian government is committing against Russians and all other citizens who speak Russian in Ukraine. Ukraine waged a kind of “jihad“ against the Russian language and culture.
