Count Out Trump at Your Peril

Guest Post by Kurt Schlichter

Since its low energy announcement a few months ago, the 2024 Donald Trump presidential campaign has been a non-stop clusterfark of dinner dates with neo-Nazis, cavorting with the Conservative, Inc., likes of Lindsey Graham, disappointing fundraising, relitigating the 2020 election, and generating lame nicknames for a rival who is right on his Gucci’s heels. For his fans, it has been a festival of cognitive dissonance, as the OnlyTrumpers shriek that RON DESANTIS LOVES PAUL RYAN! and then excuse the photos of Trump literally endorsing Paul Ryan as some sort of 4-D chess or a cunning ploy to “keep his enemies closer.” On social media, there are a lot of conservatives who appreciate what he did and also wish his aging rear-end would haul off into retirement. His recent behavior, including a steady drumbeat of semi-coherent Truth Social declarations, indicates that there is no “New Trump,” and only someone who has failed to pay attention for the last nearly eight years could expect a reimagining from this nearly 80-year-old icon.

And yet, you have to be nuts to count him out for 2024.

Trump & 2024

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

I do not believe that Trump will be the Republican nominee. That will probably be Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. I have said that some old friends in DC contacted me and they asked me if I would talk to Trump against his running in 2024 and if I would advise DeSantis. My response was no. I said if I got back into the political game, I would tell DeSantis not to run for they would eat him for lunch in DC.

Let’s Talk About Trump

Guest Post by Kurt Schlichter

The midterm clusterfark has drawn plenty of hot takes and instant analyses that range from insightful to self-serving to unbelievably stupid. But now that we have gotten past the initial blasts of the flamethrower, perhaps we should take a breath and sit down, and think about where we are as a movement and what we need to do as a party for 2024. There’s a lot to talk about, from procedural questions like how we intend to cope with the new world of extended mail voting to substantive imperatives like how we must repeal the 19th Amendment as it applies to single, liberal women who vote for their Democrat Daddy in appalling numbers. We need to ask questions about candidate selection, money, issue choices, and a bunch of other stuff. And we need to answer the question of what to do about Donald J. Trump.

The Case Against Donald Trump 2024

Guest Post by Kurt Schlichter

The Case Against Donald Trump 2024

I recently set out the case for Donald Trump in 2024. There are important factors in his favor that support him trying yet again, but in GOP circles, a growing contingent of America First Republicans hope that Donald J. Trump chooses not to run again (I give him a 50/50 chance of throwing his red hat in the ring based upon what I know). The libs want him to, certainly. They think beating him will kill off the conservative-populist revolt. But what the libs do not get – because they do not want to get it – is that Trump is not our movement but, rather, the avatar of it. It is separate from him and will exist long after he retires to Mar-a-Lago for good. But why do a large number of hardcore cons feel it’s time for him to retire?

The Case for Donald Trump 2024

Time for some real talk. There are a lot of Republicans with doubts about President Trump running again in 2024, and you hear it often when conservatives gather together. They worry that him going Grover Cleveland could spoil a sure thing, but that’s not necessarily so. Whether you love Donald Trump, or whether you doubt him – if you hate him, shut up and go back to the Bulwark offices with the other losers – you need to look hard at the facts. We’re not progressives who let our feelz control us, and we must ruthlessly assess our own potential courses of action when it comes to replacing that desiccated old pervert masquerading as our president.

We must look at his downside, but also his upside – and he has one. The fact is that Donald Trump 2024 has a reasonable chance to beat anyone the Democrats launch at him – hell, in ’16 he defied the conventional wisdom to crush Felonia Milhous von Pantsuit, the Smartest Woman Ever Was, and there are a lot of reasons why he might well pummel whatever pea-brained nimrod the Dems deploy against him in 2024.

Trumpology

Trumpology

Former President Donald Trump has signaled he will announce his presidential intentions after the November midterm elections. Yet his record of endorsements is quite mixed. By the sheer numbers of winning primary candidates his stamp of approval is impressive, but in a few of the most important races, not so much.

If You Like Donald Trump Then You Want a Real Primary

If You Like Donald Trump Then You Want a Real Primary

Time for some real talk about our favorite ex-president – this Dr. Oz endorsement reaffirms what we have all been seeing, that Donald Trump is losing his edge. Seven years after coming down the escalator and revolutionizing American politics by advocating the conservative/populist agenda that the bipartisan ruling caste had ignored for decades as our country swirled around the bowl, it is looking like we in the base have evolved while Trump is stuck in 2016, hitting golf balls, sending out his communiqués, and attending rallies that evoke but do not match the good old days. He can still turn it around, but right now, the truth is that he’s messing up – and someone needs to tell him the truth.

His bizarre endorsement of Dr. Oz for the Pennsylvania Senate seat, greeted with a collective “What the hell was he thinking?” among the base, is only the latest of his tone-deaf maneuvers. It seems like he wants to run again in 2024, but Trumpworld is giving off the definite impression that he expects a coronation. If you like Trump, the last thing you want is a cakewalk. If you like Trump, you want him to fight for it and earn it.

Who Will It Be? Trump Drops Yuge Hint About 2024 Running Mate

Via Blue State Conservative

The Washington Examiner recently did a phone interview with former President Donald Trump and boy did it come away with some big news about what his widely anticipated 2024 run might look like. As that outlet reports:

Former President Donald Trump is effectively ruling out tapping former Vice President Mike Pence as his running mate should he mount a third White House bid in 2024 and win the Republican nomination.

“I don’t think the people would accept it,” Trump told the Washington Examiner Tuesday evening during a wide-ranging telephone interview from Mar-a-Lago, his private social club and political headquarters in Palm Beach, Florida.

Speaking to the Washington Examiner on his relationship with Pence, Trump said “Mike and I had a great relationship except for the very important factor that took place at the end. We had a very good relationship,” Trump said. “I haven’t spoken to him in a long time.”

The Big News Out of CPAC 2022 Is That Trump Is Back

The Big News Out of CPAC 2022 Is That Trump Is Back

I’m not going to bury the lede the way the mainstream media is trying to bury the COVID, inflation, and dementia disasters: Donald Trump is running again. He gave every indication of it in public and at private events, and the word from the people within his orbit is unanimous – he’s already planning his next administration. Like it or not – there are plenty of folks unthrilled about him going Grover – you better get used to it.

Trump is back. He looked great – slim, smiling, a total 180 from the talking husk we’re stuck with until January 20, 2025. And he’s funny. A hilarious highlight was when 45 pointed out Dr. Seb Gorka at a private event and called him a “handsome and elegant man.” I’d enjoy having Trump back because he’s so damn amusing, if for no other reason.

The Declining Prospects Of A Donald Trump Presidency

Via Blue State Conservative

About a month ago, Donald Trump gave an extended interview to The Daily Wire’s Candace Owens and it didn’t play well for me. I wrote my response to that interview here. I had long been considering possible alternatives to a Trump run, but with each passing day it seems that the conservative agenda is ready for a different nominee.

Apparently, I am not the only one. Two recent articles from my inbox – one from this same site by a regular contributing author and the other by the intellectual heavyweight and inimitable Ann Coulter – both featured compelling arguments reaching similar conclusions: Trump’s reign might be over. Both are worth taking the time to read.

Is Trump The One For 2024?

Via The Blue State Conservative

Generally speaking, I am not a fan of polls. For one, I’ve never been polled by anyone. For another, the number of people being polled often strikes me as too small a sample from which to draw broad conclusions. Also, those samples more often than not tend to oversample one group, Democrats, let’s say, over another group, which again leads to questions of accuracy.

Bottom line, I don’t trust ‘em and tend to ignore them in preference to the only poll that actually counts, the election itself.

I’ve often asked myself, what would I do if I were to be contacted to participate in a poll. Not sure how I’d answer. My curmudgeonly self would probably tell them to go pound sand. My impish self would probably participate, but answer exactly opposite of how I really think in order to help bring inaccuracy and disrepute to the poll itself when later compared to real results.

The White House Is Donald Trump’s To Lose

Via The Blue State Conservative

The current occupant of the Oval Office has proven to be just as clueless as anyone with a functional brain knew he was before he wasn’t elected. It was obvious from jump street that Joe Biden was purely a puppet for the elite who needed Donald Trump out of their way, but a year in we find that calling Clueless Joe a puppet is an insult to Howdy Doody, Charlie McCarthy, Kermit the Frog, and Jeff Dunham’s entire cast of characters. Biden makes “Achmed the Dead Terrorist” look like a brain surgeon.

Enough time has passed since the thievery we call “the 2020 Presidential Election” that even those who hated Trump enough to actually support the puddin’head are dropping him like a recently-spewed hunk of lava. It’s been bad since the inauguration, but it’s gotten so much worse that at this point a ham and cheese sandwich could defeat Biden in 2024. What’s worse for Sleepy Joe, a ham and cheese sandwich with a (D) beside its name could easily trounce him (and will) in the primary, and in another week or so it won’t even need the cheese.

So what does all of this mean for the most popular President in modern history, who received more legitimate votes than anyone ever has before (and doesn’t seem to have lost any of his electoral support)?

It means the 2024 White House is Donald Trump’s to lose.

But here there be monsters, and the Donald must quickly and efficiently address them if the sailing is to be as smooth as polling, and common sense, would indicate.
