myNYPD

My wife told me about this yesterday and I was laughing out loud before she could tell me that it immediately failed to have the desired response.

How ridiculous are they: they abuse, stomp mudholes, violate the 2nd and 4th amendment on a regular basis, act like sociopaths while rarely being held accountable and now they requested the general public to post friendly “selfies?”  What a bunch of stoopid shitheads these copfuks are…

Well, the #MyNYPD hashtag sure backfired quickly

For another case study in the perils of using Twitter for branding, look no further than the #myNYPD hashtag that is now trending for all the wrong reasons in the New York City area.

What started out as an attempt to solicit pent-up good feelings among the New York Police Department’s constituents is turning out to be a troll-fest of epic proportions.

One by one, hundreds of tweets with photos of what the tweeters suggest is police brutality or misbehavior are being sent out with the hashtag #MyNYPD. No good can come from this, but as US Airways and others have learned recently, its hard to take back a tweet.

Harry , I watched ..From freedom to Fascism …last night. We have solf fascism now but that’s going to change into hard jackboot on throat fascism in the near future.
Police savagery will hit a new high .Best learn self control when around cops.At least pretend to like them.A good attitude will go a long way in preventing you from becoming a target of police violence.

#myNYPD, Peoria mayor offer latest examples why government types shouldn’t mess with Twitter

The hashtag backlash was international news, but the NYPD brass can take comfort in fact they’re not alone when it comes to Twitter travails. In fact, their woes seem to pale in comparison to the deserved opprobrium being heaped on the mayor of Peoria, Ill., the medium-sized manufacturing city that’s home to Caterpillar Inc.

It seems that the mayor, a fellow named Jim Ardis, didn’t take kindly to some citizen mocking him via a Twitter account with the handle @Peoriamayor. While a less thin-skinned politician might realize such a development puts him in the same boat as numerous other public officials from around the world, Ardis wasn’t having it.

It seems the account had only a few followers. What’s more, it had already been suspended by Twitter for not meeting its guidelines. Nevertheless, Ardis proceeded to request a police investigation, which led to the cops looking into what was deemed an alleged “false personation of a public official,” according to the Peoria Journal Star.

In the end, a home was raided by around a half-dozen police officers, electronic equipment was seized, and a 36-year-old man found himself under arrest for marijuana possession. Ardis says he has no regrets and that he had the right to defend himself, while fellow Peoria politicians fear he’s turned the town into a national punchline.

But if anything, the situation seemed to illustrate what’s known as the Streisand effect, a term coined after Barbra tried to suppress publication of a photo of her house, which merely ensured that the image spread like wildfire through the internet. If Ardis didn’t like being parodied before, now he can watch out for @NotPeoriaMayor and a handful of other fresh Twitter handles no doubt inspired by his heavy-handed response.

Harry P…had the good fortune of meeting Aaron Russo in I believe it was 1996 at a We The People conference. This was the time that I awoke to the dirt bags in CONgress .

He was a great person to talk to as was Mel Gibson’s dad who gave one of the best speeches on the every growing power of the government that I have ever heard .
