The point is not to “change” events but rather to avoid the predictable negative consequences. BC- LR to all

“Those that don’t study history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do study history are doomed to stand by helplessly while everyone else repeats it.”

That could easily be the most succinct description of the Fourth Turning theory.

History is bunk (boring, bogus, a sham, bullshit), as Henry Ford observed. Geo. Santayana opined that those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. Who’s right?

My opinion (Jackson’s 1st observation) is that those who know history, and those who don’t know history, think that the past has no play in the present. They believe history is written by the victors.

A 2nd Jacksonian observation is that if victors have guns, and money, and will enough, history doesn’t matter.

Jackson’s third observation is that victors always need to keep a foot on the victims’ neck, a hand on their pocketbooks, and a finger on the trigger. That’s the US now, and as IraK would say, may we always be strong, rich, and willing (to pull the trigger.)

Francis Marion made his own history….. America’s first terrorist…at least according to the British. I’ve hunted the swamps he roamed many times .

Jackson’s third observation is that victors always need to keep a foot on the victims’ neck, a hand on their pocketbooks, and a finger on the trigger.

So, those that know history are doomed to watch endless replays while those that don’t know history find events newsworthy and fascinating. Thank you for that succinct summary of history’s little mystery; why it repeats.
