A mother who was impaled by a pole during a car crash has admitted that she is lucky to be alive after she veered off the road while sending a text message.
Christina Jahnz had a pole go through her thighs and buttocks when she hit a guardrail last Wednesday while sending a text at the wheel in Elizabeth, Colorado.
Firefighters were forced to saw the front and back off the pole off to get the woman out of the wreckage before transporting her to Parker Adventist Hospital where she underwent surgery.

She released the photos of her horrific injuries so that others would be aware of the dangers of texting at the wheel

Mrs Jahnz was sending a colleague a text to say she would be late for work when she veered off the road and hit a guardrail. She released the images of her totaled car to warn other motorists not to text and drive
She told 9 News that she had just dropped her daughter at school when she realized the girl had forgotten her saxophone.
She was on her way home to collect the instrument when she began sending a voice text to tell her friend she would be late for a work meeting.
Mrs Jahnz told 9 News: ‘I looked down to make sure it [the text] was all right. The next thing I knew, I was looking up, there was white powder from the air bags deployed.’
The mother said she had at least 40 stitches before she stopped counting and added that she also had to be sewn up on the inside.
She said that medics told her if the pole had come through the front of her car at just a slightly different angle, she would have bled to death.
She was released from hospital on Sunday and is expected to recover fully from her injuries.

This is once instance where I would support tougher penalties.
— texting & driving, no injuries ………….. $2,000 fine, 5 points on your license
— texting & driving, with injuries to others ………….. $10,000 fine, loss of license for 5 years
— texting & driving, causing death ………….. $1 million dollar fine, water boarding, amputation of all fingers, 5-25 years prison
Saw a cop two-hand texting while turning a corner on a red light, oblivious to pedestrians attempting to cross on the green/walk light… even though this city heavily fines either texting, or talking with a hand-held device, while driving.

In other news, there’s been an odd increase in the number of gay guys texting while driving in Colorado.
I think that this punishment was fitting for her. It is very humiliating for her to be made fun of and to have pictures of her fanny all over the Internet! Additionally, the fanny has plenty of nerve endings. Her pain is great, but without being permanent. However, great good can come from great pain and that can be permanent.
It looks like this suffering may be helping her to become a better person. She really made herself vulnerable and gave up her privacy in a situation where it would have been very easy not to do so, because she felt that the greater good outweighed her feelings of embarrassment.

It’s too bad she had to suffer so in order to learn how deadly driving while distracted can be.
But, as old Ben once remarked: experience is a hard school, but a fool will learn in no other.
