Seriously, I’m done.
I went to pick up a few toiletries at lunch and came up against a lesson in immigration and entitlement. I was in the vitamins aisle, listening to several foreign women chattering away loudly in the next aisle over. Irritating? Oh yeah, but what are you going to do? They are entitled to speak whatever language they want while out shopping. They may be new and working on their English skills, and their native language is more comfortable for them. Whatever the reason, it’s none of my business.
So rounding the corner to head down the lotions aisle, I see them standing right in front of what I need. Three Somali women, dressed head to toe in native garb, laughing and talking in Somali and blocking the whole aisle. I saw two shoppers head down the aisle, see them and back out; I’m not that timid. I walk up to them, politely ask to get what I need, and start to reach for my body lotion. That’s when they turn, proudly displaying their Walmart employee badges, and shift to block my access. One of them tells me, “No English, no English.” WTF?! Seriously?!
So I pantomime that I need to get past them and get my lotion, they giggle, chatter and turn their backs to me, not ceding an inch. Don’t mess with a redheaded Texan, bitches; I gently pressed past them and grabbed my lotion. I decided I’d shopped enough and headed straight to Customer Service where I waited for 25 minutes while the service rep tried to explain to the non-English speaking Hispanic woman why she couldn’t return used panties. When I finally got up there, my blood pressure was pounding behind my eyes and I had a massive migraine starting, but I used my polite reasonable words. I explained that I had been treated rudely and dismissively by three employees who were taking a break in the lotions aisle. I explained they pretended to not speak or understand English, and refused to allow me access to the products they were blocking. Since I couldn’t pronounce or even spell the names on their tags (not a single one of them was Beth or Peggy), I described them as closely as possible considering I could only see fabric, the tips of their shoes and their faces. And that’s when I was told that they were NOT required to speak English, that they were hired to interact with Amarillo’s Somali community, and not English speaking customers. Furthermore, I was being unreasonable to expect them to act a certain way. I was basically treated as a redneck bigot and told if I didn’t like interacting with other cultures, I shouldn’t shop there. Absolutely fine with me.
No surprise here, this is the same suburban Walmart that was featured in my back to school entitlement post. This is the store the farthest from the Somali community (there are two others within a couple of miles of their neighborhoods), it is in the upscale Southwest area where homes range from $250K to $750K, and one million-plus dollar gated community. Not a lot of Somali refugees. So one wonders, just how much work do they do? How often are they called upon to translate or interact? Are these some of those jobs we’re told Americans won’t do? How many qualified American applicants were turned down so these women could have these jobs?
So yeah, I’m done with Walmart; and I left the lotion on the Customer Service desk, not another penny.
Walmart has its moments. Try it early (as opposed to late), stick to only the things it does well (motor oil their is nearly 50% cheaper than everywhere else) and minimize contact with check out folks by doing the self checkout.
I don’t like their habit of only stocking with made in china products, but otherwise they are a shining example of how to make a mint with a better mousetrap (efficiency of scale).
Easy, shop somewhere else. Nobody making you spend your money at Walmart. If you don’t like it leave and kwityerbitchin.
Yes, There are some good deals there if you are a wise shopper.
First thing in the morning is when I go, have the store pretty much to yourself and no hassle checking out or parking.
They have raised a lot of prices quite high however, not like the old days anymore. Have to know your prices or they will grab you on a lot of items now, especially in the food section.
I was going to Vegas last month, 3 days, no big deal, I packed the Mexican way, 3 large Trader Joe bags and an insulated canvas bag I got at Sam’s for $9.99 (I ditched my roll away cooler in favor of this bag). The days of packing 4 suitcases and an ice chest are over since it is an ordeal to lug that stuff through the casinos. I once got lost in the miracle mile at PH and circled that mall three or four times with a rolling suitcase.
Anyway, I checked my tires and wouldn’t you know, second time I find a nail in the tire jut before leaving. I was a Sunday afternoon and I refused to go to Walmart which is two blocks away. I drove to my favorite tire store on Sierra Hwy. It is the old route 6 link somehow related to the old route 66.
It has plenty of old motels and fast food joints from Mojave al the way down to Santa Clarita. It also runs right in front of Plant 42, the Lockheed Skunk works.
I drive to my favorite tire store, 10 miles away because although they charge $10, same as Walmart, I refuse to shop at Walmart. The place is closed. I look for another place on Sierra, closed, I head back to Walmart. They fix my flat and I’m on the road, the sexy mulatta has no clue how dumb I am, I saved the day.
I took the van to them for an oil change today, I tell my wife, last week I went to the dealer 6 miles away and they were too busy, so now I’m just going to go to Walmart. There’s a white guy there. He says they have a $20 special on Castrol this weekend. Great, I save $12 off the dealer special price.
Why does any city in this country have a “Somali community”? There is not even a community let alone a civilization in Somalia itself!

I thought we had all the Somalis in Minnesota. Wikipedia’s Somalis in America entry says there are 85,000 of them in the US with 1/3 in MN. That is 100% bullshit. There are 85,000 of them just working in JC Penney here and another 85,000 walking around the Mall of America. So far they’re relatively peaceful, but they aren’t exactly warm and friendly. It’s one thing when 2% of your state population is Muslim. It’s another thing altogether when they get to be 20% or more. When my 12 year old was born I swear most of the families at the hospital were Somalis. We need to stop letting any more Muslims in. Period. Of course it won’t get done. As pissed as I am about the USA-Mexico border being left wide open, at least most Latinos are nominal Christians. The Muslims have made minimal inroads in Latin America so far, although that fuckstain Chavez in Venezuela loved to cozy up with the Iranians.

At this point, it’s hard to say who is a nominal Christian, some of these guys (most) involved in the narcotics business worship at the altar of jesus malverde, santa muerte and even the Knights Templar of Michoacán are also fucked up idolaters.
I may have mentioned this a time or two in the past; I have never spent one penny in Walmart. Just sayin, Not that anyone would give a shit.

I’ve managed to live very frugally and very well without setting foot in one of Walmart’s oversized, sloppy, disheveled stores more than once in the past 20 years. I hate those places, and would have to go considerably out of my way to shop at one in any case.
People believe Walmart always has the best price because they hear it trumpeted to them constantly, but it is not always the case. In any case, it’s not worth my while to burn up an additional hour or more of my time and travel twice the distance just to save $1 on a printer cartridge. I know people who will drive 25 miles across town, clear down to the south suburbs, just to save $2 on some item they could have easily gotten within walking distance, never considering the cost of the “saving” in time and fuel.
Regarding Somali manners- I have personally found Somali women to be friendly and polite. Being mostly Muslim, they dress very and mostly look very graceful in their long frocks and scarves. I’d much rather deal with them than the typical ghetto pig.
Shame on the assholes who told this guy to quit his bitchen. As if it’s not bad enough with the Mexican illegals now we need these fucking subhumans fucking things up? What a disaster.

As Iska said, if you want to see a Somali community and are not brave or stupid enough to go to Somalia, just go to Minneapolis, There was an article in the Star-Tribune a couple weeks ago that discussed how much they get to subsidize their rent and other freebies. It seems that they, as a group, at least work and are neat and clean tenants. I find it odd that MN is a place they would wish to settle though.

In the afternoon, I invariably get behind the little old lady who tries to pay in cash. She’ll root around in her purse for folding money stuffed here, there, and everywhere. Then she’ll dive around for the change purse and start counting out pennies, nickels, and dimes. After discovering she’s 23 cents short, out comes the fucking check book.
Can she find a pen to write the check? No-o-o-o, so the clerk gives her one. Then she’ll ask the clerk how much the bill is when she just tried to count out the exact change for the bill. By this time, the quick checkout lane is backed up to the meat department at the rear of the store (this Safeway doesn’t have self-checkout lanes). At least I got a front-row seat to this circus.

Reading posts and comments like these proves that my wife and I chose a most excellent part of the country to live in. We have minorities but their numbers are fairly insignificant. So far.
Yesterday we made our bi-monthly Costco run. They were out of tea bags so I stopped at another store that caters mostly to the restaurant industry. I’m not sure why I don’t shop there more often because it really is a truly pleasant shopping experience. They sell a huge variety of goods in case lot quantities at prices on par with Costco but the place is never crowded. I never really thought about why this was the case until yesterday. There was a group of three women who I assume were grandma, mom, and daughter. Each of them were about four feet wide and of course, oblivious to the needs of anyone around them. They walked down aisles abreast instead of single file and talked loudly and non-stop. I could tell they were shopping for Thanksgiving due to their discussion of items they would be making. They even had to talk louder when one of them was on the phone to be heard over the other two.
They beat me to the registers and were just about checked out when I ended up behind them. They tried to pay for a large cartload of crap with EBT. They each proudly had a card. The cashier pointed to a sign while telling them they do not accept EBT. They of course became belligerent and even ruder by kicking the big stacks of empty boxes that customers put the purchases in before leaving. Fucking savages!
I waited for the cashier to clear away the un-purchased goods and then told they guy that I had never really noticed the sign either because I work for my money. I opined that not accepting EBT was probably why it was a nice place to shop since the place was not swarming with a platoon of Free Shit Army members. The guy repeated the FSA phrase and laughed, saying he had never heard that before.
The sheople in Costco always get my blood boiling before I leave the store so I think I’ll hit the competitor first and reduce my time spent in Costco. I spend so little time in Walmart (mostly ammo) that time spent on the weekly PoWM posts here exceed my time in their stores.

Why do companies here hate Americans SO much?
Just a guess, maybe cause it didn’t cost Americans anything to get here.
Because they eat like royalty.
Because they expect $10 for a job other people back home do for fifty cents.
Because they think their shit don’t stink.
Because they don’t know more than one language.
Because they know very little about how the rest of the world lives.
Because they don’t care how the rest of the world lives.
Because they never lost family in a street fight over a business spot.
Because they believe they deserve a job based on their filling all the squares.
Because they never had to bribe or sleep with a potential boss or cop.
Because they have ‘rights’.
Because they go abroad wearing outrageous outfits with no respect for local customs.
Because they take their racial issues with them wherever they go.
Because they don’t know their shit stinks.
Because they don’t bother to learn the lingo of the country they are visiting.
Because they think the whole world knows about Ferguson.
Because they think one riot per decade is enough to motivate government action.
Because they think the world cares about American music and movies.
Because 330 million assholes think their opinion trumps that of 6.7 billion people

Because Americans lack worth ethic. The hardest working minorities I know around here are Mexican and Russian/Ukie.

EC, apparently they don’t have that store in the PNW but we have two others that offer similar goods and services. One of them also supplies many of the grocery stores in the area.
