ADMIN SURVIVED

In a surprising development, I’m really pissed off this morning. I watched the weather report last night at 10:00 pm. The big breasted bimbo who passes for a meteorologist on every local station, forecasted rain this morning. Not a peep about even the chance of ice. Confidence in their forecast was 100%. No qualifications.

As usual, I get in my little tiny Honda hybrid at 7:10 and make my way to Wal-Mart and Giant for the weekly grocery trip. I notice it has begun to drizzle. I also notice on my dashboard the temperature is only 29 degrees. I wonder whether this could cause me a problem.

I turn on the KYW news station about halfway to my destination and they are reporting a 60 car accident on the Schuylkill  Expressway, I-476 closed, The Turnpike closed, I-95 closed, and all the bridges closed.

I decide I better make this a quick trip to be safe. I rush through Wal-Mart even quicker than normal. I move rapidly through Giant and I’m done my shopping in less than 35 minutes. I push my cart out of the store and it is pouring rain. And the rain has turned the parking lot and every road in my area into a solid sheet of ice. You could have played ice hockey in the parking lot.

I attempt to pull out of the parking lot and see about 6 cars sideways on the hill blocking my route home. I u-turn and go out the other exit. I travel at 10 mph to the stop light and make my left. There are pickup trucks pointing in the wrong direction in the intersection. Traveling up the hill I see an ambulance sideways in my lane. Myself and three other vehicles go around it and see four more cars that looked like they were playing bumper cars.

Everyone puts on their flashers and proceeds at about 15 mph. To say it was a tense situation is an understatement. I was  shitting my pants. I’m driving a car that weighs about 300 pounds and is made of plastic. Going down a hill on Sumneytown Pike I had to use the brakes. The anti-lock brake system was working overtime. I realized the best way to survive was to not brake the rest of the way home. So I didn’t.

It is a miracle I made it home in one piece. Avalon then got to hear me rant and rave about the idiots who pass for meteorologists. These people act like they are scientists, with their models and faux degrees. They blew this forecast only hours ahead of time. This morning they act like they knew it all along.

Three people have died this morning so far in these accidents. If these meteorologists had gotten the forecast right, they’d be alive. Penn-Dot did not treat the roads for possible icing because there was no forecast of possible icing. Big tits and blonde hair don’t make you a qualified weather expert. These weather bimbos have blood on their hands.

This can be the first post in Stucky’s recently proposed “miracle” thread.

These “weather bimbos” are only reading off the reports generated by real meteorologists, who get to hide out. We do not see the people who are really generating the forecasts, only the “bimbos” who get paid 7-digit salaries for reading off a prepared report

I guess that for that much money just for looking cute, standing in front of a camera, and reading off a prepared script, a person can take some blame, even if she’s not the one who originated the false info. It’s really hard to find a society anywhere in history where people who can legally do so little in return for such lavish financial rewards and so little personal risk.

Glad you be OK.

So, the other day, Ms Freud asked why I’m so interested in German weather. Huh!

Weather forecasting in southern Arizona must be the most boring job in the world.

1) Sunny and hot (or warm, or cool): 320 days.

2) Low pressure system moving in from the Pacific Northwest: cloudy with scattered showers: 15 days.

3) Low pressure system moving in from the southwest: cloudy with scattered showers: 15 days.

4) Low pressure system moving in from the Gulf of Mexico: huge thunderstorms: 15 days.

That’s it!!!! Year in, year out. Even Admin could do it. Heh.

The issue of weather forecasting is pathetic – and its even at the national level. In Sharyl Attkisson’s book “Stonewalled” she mentions that journalists (presumably there are a few left) now refer to the segment as “weather porn”. After finishing it I realized just how many times the national news reports at 6:30 PM lead with a weather story of all things. I must admit though that Sheena Parveen will cause me to stop short. In any case I pay no real attention to their predictions – when I get in the car in the morning I check the thermometer in the car and the general weather conditions – ice scares me having had an intimate encounter with a telephone pole a few years back in similar conditions as this morning.

The last time we had a ice event like the one Admin just lived through, 26 people died here in the Commonwealth. I don’t remember any warning from the bimbos at that time.

It was so bad books were written about it.

I don’t believe these folks are “real” meteorologists – despite their titles. What I think they do (except for perhaps Glenn “Hurricane”Schwartz on Phila. NBC10) is they get a degree or certificate in “broadcast meteorology”. You’d have to dig into their credentials to see what exactly qualifies them to be called “meteorologist” by their employers. Here’s a link that describes it: http://www.ametsoc.org/amscert/ . The only other title that sickens me more is “Coach”.

I drive in that kind of weather alot in the Pacific northwest. Black ice is the killer. Hard to see especially at night. FedEx has its share of roll overs and Jack knives .Mostly because of going to fast and ice.
Glad your ok.It can be stressful.

I had the same weather conditions two days last week. I have no idea what the forecast was as I have not watched weather in years. I spent 12 years as a concrete finisher and weather was very important. The bimbos were wrong so often I just gave up. I think that was 13 years ago.

Glad you’re ok admin. Slow and steady is the way to go!

There is no worse/out of control feeling then driving a car or truck on ice and having the vehicle start doing its own thing. The first time it happened to me I was coming up on an intersection and intending to turn right, not moving all that fast. A slight turn of the wheal and a slight touch of the break and—-NOTHING! I was no longer in control of anything. The car continued right on through the intersection like I hadn’t done a thing. It was as if the steering wheal and brake had been completely disconnected and I was now a passenger and no one was driving. Fortunately there were no other cars on the road at the time (no one was stupid enough to be out there) and the car stayed on the road but was doing a slow motion CW spin. It made it a good 100ft or more past the intersection before coming to a stop. Probably the most bizarre sensation you’ll ever experience.
Black ice is the worst.

Ice sucks! And no four wheel drive will make any difference. I was always amazed at how people seemed to want to travel when the weather and roads were really nasty. The macho dudes in big 4wd trucks always seem to be the first ones to slide out and into the ditch. The great American icon is worthless in the snow. Glad you made it home in one piece.

Glad to hear you survived Admin, road ice is a real bitch. Here’s our local weather bimbet Jackie Johnson on CBS-2. Although the station has 4 real meteoroligists (that I know of), Jackie is their prime-time weather chick, and she gets more days off than a Fedgov worker.

Anti-lock brakes are bullshit. I don’t want the car to try to drive itself. I’ve been driving on ice/snow for 35+ years. An experienced winter driver knows how to use the friction of the snow itself (when the wheels are purposely locked up) to stop more quickly than by pumping the brakes or with anti-lock brakes. That’s with snow, though. Black ice is another matter altogether. When I was a teenager I hit a patch of black ice and rear-ended a cop car (who had positioned himself behind the other 15 or so cars who had skid off the road). The old man was pissed when I told him, but nothng came of it, since there’d been no real damage.

Thanks, WC! I will be tuning in to CBS weather shortly. Univision features Jackie Guerrido who makes the weather report unintelligible to me because I can’t see the forecast for the tits.

bb, Truckstop bathroom peccadillos aside, I give you a high 5 for doing what you do every day. My dad drove a truck for many years; only he knew how any accidents he avoided. He sure hated small cars – back when they were a rare sight on the roads. My mom said he would brake real hard in his sleep sometimes.

@Admin:

Glad to hear you survived and avoided this terrible accident.

The Repubs will not do anything to change the status quo because:

1) They basically agree with the Big State Nanny Titty Programs (which makes them dishonest)

2) they believe that someday they will be in charge of them (which makes them delustional)

3) Their candidates, consultants and hangers on probably raise more $$$$ than when they are losing than when they are actually in charge of the government (which makes them hopelessly corrupt).

“Admin – no point in impeaching him (Obama), as they do not have the numbers in the Senate. What they need to do is to sue him in federal court. They will not do that either.”
—-Llpoh

The Republicans ARE suing Obama in federal court. Exhibit A is the Republican Attorney General from Texas in filing suit against Obama for his latest executive orders which ignore, and even contradict, immigration laws. Suit filed under the “take care” clause of the Constitution.

Exhibit B are the multiple lawsuits in federal court, all filed by a multitude of state Republican Attorneys General, against Obama’s waivers to the employer mandate in Obamacare. Again, the “take care” clause.

I know attention to law and legal cases can be a tedious, complicated, and perhaps boring undertaking for many citizens. But it’s extremely important. The Republican Party is not asleep at the switch. It is challenging this lawless president. In court.
