So, about the vid below …… I had a summer job (1977) driving a big ass Caddy Limo. Mostly airport runs to JFK … for people in very wealthy sections of central Noo Joisey. The cost was about $100 – $150. Certainly not chump change in 1977. You want to know the truth? About HALF the time I got ZERO tip. ZERO!! Most of the other times I’d get about $5. Five lousy fuckin’ bucks for about an hour trip. If I was really lucky I would also have a passenger to drive from the airport back to their mansion in NJ … another five bucks, if I was lucky. Ten bucks … for two hours of driving hell, plus the hourly pittance the limo owner paid. Whoopdy fuckin’ doo!!! This was the very beginning of my journey in hating the rich. I almost “got in” on Saturday.
Doing major work around the house … Ms Freud want to sell …. so, I decided to wash the damn house by hand with bleach and mildew cleaner. Hey, it’s a ranch house …. the front is full brick, so only 3 sides of aluminum siding. Not that big a deal. Soooo … the back of the house has a deck, and a 10ft awning. It’s motorized, but something broke inside the motor last year and it no longer works. There’s a hand crank, so no big deal. We have aluminum gutters which needed to have the leaves cleaned out. The motor sits just above the gutter. There’s the setup.
Sooooo, I dip the brush in the pail of water, climb up the three steps of the aluminum ladder, scrub the gutter, and then … and then I touch the outside casing of this “broken” motor, just barely, really …. and, I received the shock of my life. It sent my arm back with such force, you have no idea, and knocked me off the ladder and onto my ass. Well, my ass and back hit the deck simultaneously. Not sure what the fuck happened, or how I survived. Maybe it was a good thing I had on sneakers. Good thing I landed just next to the glass table. My arm tingled for half an hour. My back is stiff. But my ass is just fine, due to the tremendous padding there.
Fucken eh! One never knows when the Grim Reaper will come a knockin’.
So, yesterday we go to my mom’s house for Mother’s Day. The grass is over a foot high!!! It seems their lawn mower broke …. and every lawn service they called promised to come … and did not come!!! Unfuckin real. So, sometime soon this week I’ll haul our newly purchased but used John Deer lawnmower in the trunk of the Sonata, and spend a couple days mowing and weeding and painting at my folks house. By the time I’m done I’ll probably wish the awning would have killed me.

Speaking of a good shock, I used to be “on call” for emergencies at a 50,000 watt FM radio station that had a rat problem. Like clockwork, I’d get a call at 3 AM from the dj in the booth that the transmitter was down and they couldn’t get it to come up. So I get in my subaru (2 wheel drive car not outback) and ascend the fire road to the transmitter site in the San Berdoo mountains. Sees the rats had a sacrifice ritual that could only be performed at 3 AM on Sunday morning when the designated sacrificee would jump inside the open-sided (and totally illegally running) transmitter, thus shorting out the 2 huge buss fuses that could only be replaced my moi (even though I wasn’t the engineer). Anyhoo I did this so many times it’s a miracle I wasn’t electrocuted up there on the mountain!
Next time I’ll tell you about the time I saw a 100KW FM transmitter shorted out during a lightning strike and blow sparks into a studio full of black folk during a gospel radio church service on the AM station, I had no idea the Human eye could get that wide open!
