Well, there is still “enough money” to find $6.5 billion in VERY discretionary spending. It would be interesting to break down the spend according to earnings (quintiles or deciles).
With the US “Look at ME” cultural mindset, I suspect those with access to relatively “easy” money might be the majority spenders (i.e. top 5%, with proportionately more spent as one climbs to the very top of the “earnings pyramid”)

Spent $40 buying a costume for our grandson (he chose an evil Court Jester). That’s it.
@ flash – pretty good dig at me. Actually, many kids back in my day DID make a mask out of a paper grocery sack, just as your photo depicts. I think we had just as much fun.

If I run out of candy, I’m giving them beers.

I like to give out candy. I figure as long as I can still make one person smile there’s still a reason to not blow my brains out.

If you never made your own costume, you really missed a good do it yourself moment.

My parents each have their own set of health problems and may not be around much longer so all the kids, grandkids and great grandkids went to their house for a Halloween party.
Food, snacks, drinks, watched some Michigan football, a bit of the world series, lots of diaper changes, very loud but a good time.
The wife and I decided to play the “trust the kids as honest” game, so we placed a bowl of candy on a platform and left the light on.
We got home about 10:00 pm, the pedestal was in the road, the bowl is yet to be found. We lost the game I guess.

Well I gotta say, last night was a doozie!!! Non stop fireworks in the new subdivision of glorious fiscal abandon. From 8pm till 9:30pm was virtually non stop fireworks. I know the city does a fireworks display on summer holidays that run’s into the $50,000 range for 5 minutes of display, but last night had to be in the thousands of dollars for people that just acquired $700,000 mortgages!!
How the hell one does that is waaaaaay beyond me…………
