The Onion really isn’t humor or satire anymore, it’s realistic political and social analysis.

The problem is that they designed most cities out and not up. Public trans. just works well in some places.

After 50 months of public transportation on DC’s MetroBus/MetroRail, I’m back to driving since the office location changed last November. I had to get on the public system by 6 a.m. to get a seat and not deal with packed railcars. It took me up to 90 minutes to get to work, up to 2 hours to get home–would have been worse if I worked more “normal” (8-5) hours. Was paying $15/day using public trans.
Since the new jobsite has no close public transportation, I’m driving, but it’s a fairly straightforward 26 mile commute on a 4-lane county interconnector with not too many stoplights. Average speed 55 mph. Get to work in around 45 minutes, so it’s a win-win with lower gas prices. My car gets 28 mpg. $5/day.
