Question of the Day, July 11

At this point, should public universities simply be shut down?

Public university now requires applicants pledge commitment to ‘diversity and inclusion’

WILLIAM NARDI – ROGER WILLIAMS UNIVERSITY •JULY 11, 2016

The University of Cincinnati has rolled out a new policy that requires faculty and staff applicants pledge their commitment to “diversity and inclusion.”

The policy comes at a university with a stated goal of hiring more “historically underrepresented” employees, a benchmark spelled out in its “UC Affirmative Action Plan” that calls for more African American, women, and other “traditionally unrepresented” employees campuswide.

“As of July 1, the University of Cincinnati will request a Diversity and Inclusion statement of all applicants for faculty and staff positions,” the university recently announced. “Faculty and administrative/professional applicants will be asked to submit a personal statement summarizing his or her contributions (or potential contributions) to diversity, inclusion and leadership.”

As part of the new policy, a similar mandate has been announced for those simply seeking hourly jobs at the public university, which receives more than 63,000 applications per year, according to campus officials.

Those applicants must now answer the question: “As an equal-opportunity employer with a diverse staff and student population, we are interested in how your qualifications prepare you to work with faculty, staff and students from cultures and backgrounds different from your own.”

M.B. Reilly, a university spokesperson, said in an email to The College Fix the new policy reflects campus leaders’ desire to ensure those hired fall in line with the school’s priorities.

“Asking for diversity and inclusion statements in our application processes signals that we are global, we are national and we want to become more so in drawing students, staff and faculty that reflect today’s world,” Reilly stated.

“The diversity and inclusion statement is one part of an application process that would generally take into account other factors as well,” Reilly added, citing factors such as general experience, aptitude, specialty knowledge, motivation, work history, work ethic and salary requirements.

“We do not intend to assign a rating for the statements but as we expect a cover letter to reflect interest in the position one applies to, so do we expect an understanding of how UC values the ability to work among diverse students, faculty and staff,” Reilly stated. “For any position, any search committee and/or any hiring manager/supervisor considers the needs of the position and the strengths of the candidates in a holistic manner.”

As one of the region’s largest employers, UC has more than 400 job openings at any given time, its website states.

UC’s chief diversity officer, Bleuzette Marshall, did not respond to requests for comment from The College Fix. However, she told WCPO of the new policy “We want to be able to see who people are a little bit coming through the door, and we want them to know who we are, so we aren’t surprised by each other.”

Prior to officially rolling out the policy, campus officials piloted it in their search for a new police chief and assistant police chief, they stated.

Nearly 70 applicants applied and last month the university announced an African American man named Anthony Carter was chosen as the new police chief and a white woman named Maris Herold was tapped as assistant chief of police. Both played “key roles in the reform of the Cincinnati Police Department during the last 15 years” and “demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based and community policing who understand the needs of a complex, diverse urban campus,” according to campus officials.

The new emphasis on diversity hiring comes at a university that touts a 20-page 2011-16 “Diversity Action Plan,” with the stated goals of increasing the number of African American, women and other “traditionally unrepresented” employees campuswide, from faculty to management positions, as it implements “the UC Affirmative Action Plan.”

“We’re all better off with diversity in our lives,” according to Tamie Grunow, UC’s chief human resources officer, “and it’s part of demonstrating our commitment to diversity and inclusion and setting expectations and priorities.”

YES, shut them down

“Asking for diversity and inclusion statements in our application processes signals that we are global, we are national and we want to become more so in drawing students, staff and faculty that reflect today’s world,” Reilly stated.

What Reilly really means: we signal our extreme left liberal nonsense to the world. We are purposely adding another layer of BS to avoid having to hire the most qualified.

There never should have been public schools.

Public schools are a scam of the TPTB. They are simply fulfilling the objective they were designed for. That is to create obedient workers for the Industrial-Military complex. So why is it a surprise when they come out with BS like this?

University campuses are not safe places for white men. When my son was first year student he took as a required elective Western European “Herstory” from a 3rd wave Femtard. Even though he is studying like his Dad Science.

At some point during the year the History Professor employed by Saint Francis Xavier University singled my son out in a class of over 100 students for a public shaming. Told him that he was privileged being white and male. I didn’t find out about this until the following year. This person who thinks of herself an educator could have driven my son from school. Nothing was done and nothing will be done. The irony is the person with privilege is this woman who passes herself and educator. There are no consequences for her repulsive behaviour. If it was the other way around and it was a man as Prof and a young female as student this interaction would be front page news all over the country.

Diversity and inclusion is code for less white men like my son at University. The double standard is glaringly obvious to me but nothing is going to be done to correct this problem.

Public education is the biggest scam ever promoted. It has been the biggest tool of the libertards to make everyone fall in line with their way of thought. Even people that have good morels and values don’t see the evils being promoted by this left wing evil scum.

Shutting them down forcibly is not a very Libertarian idea. Sure, let’s just get some government thugs involved.

Everyone here is correct ….. simply cut off the funding, and let the chips fall where they may.

Calm down, folks, this is just University of Cincinnati, not ALL public universities.

My son attends a public university here in Virginia and they haven’t had any of this diversity or micro aggression, racial crap crammed down their throats (plus it’s 80% white students).

I am thankful every day that my son attends Liberty University in Virginia. No liberal indoctrination, quite the opposite. If you are 21, you are allowed to keep a loaded firearm in your dorm room.

Thank God ( who isn’t allowed in school ) that my education was in the 60’s and 70’s . I had zero Libtard professors .

I’ve seen this anti-white everything is racist crap being taught to my two nephews . Fortunately their parents want nothing to do with this indoctrination . I had to bitch slap the youngest one down at supper a few weeks ago for telling his mom her description of an Asian hat as a “Chinese Hat ” was racist .

Rob In Nova Scotia …..No matter how much time had passed, if a professor had called out my kid for a shaming she’d get the end of my shoe up her ass .

Buck

Yeah I’ve thought about doing that but things usually don’t go well when I lose my temper. I can’t screw it up for him and he would end up mad at me instead of her. Feminists rage on about how men rule the world and here I am staring at a situation that shows exact opposite. This woman has more power than me or my son. Yet she would be first in line protesting against a MRA coming to campus to speak. I have kind of given up. Watch baseball in the man cave, play golf with my friends and have a beer or two in between. I know I am not changing the world. The trainwreck that is higher education is on track headed for a cliff anyways. I’d rather just watch the whole thing fail spectacularly.

In the meantime….

File a complaint against the Fem professor for oppression / discrimination against your son. You won’t win, but he will be able to watch the administration delay, deny and refuse to use the school’s “anti-discrimination” policies against the Fem professor. Their hypocrisy will be evident, and your son may get some relief from his angst.
Then again, once he graduates in STEM he will likely make more, much more if talented, than the Fem professor. Then he can Xerox each pay stub as it comes in and mail her a copy – let her stew in the injustice!

Yes, I once took my black female boss to HR for her relentless harassment of me. They wouldn’t do anything, but I insisted on weekly meetings with me, her, and the bumbling, unskilled head of HR. It sure was fun. Eventually, she screwed over her boss and then quit. I don’t take any of their bullshit. Good times.

James

I am not worried as that Femtard will end up just being a speed bump. He is miles ahead of me as a student and smart enough to see thru all the double standards of education. I do wonder though how many capable young men just quit after confronting all the obstacles thrown up to try and discourage them. The irony is that women and minorities used to have same problem. No doubt some still do. I do hope that someday the pendulum will swing back to a more sensible balance. Maybe when my grand children go to school they will not have to deal with this. One can hope.

The more “diversity” is promoted, the less diverse we are allowed to be.
