There Will Be No Second American Revolution: The Futility of an Armed Revolt

Guest Post by John W. Whitehead

“A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty.”—James Madison

America is a ticking time bomb.

All that remains to be seen is who—or what—will set fire to the fuse.

We are poised at what seems to be the pinnacle of a manufactured breakdown, with police shooting unarmed citizens, snipers shooting police, global and domestic violence rising, and a political showdown between two presidential candidates equally matched in unpopularity.

The preparations for the Republican and Democratic national conventions taking place in Cleveland and Philadelphia provide a foretaste of how the government plans to deal with any individual or group that steps out of line: they will be censored, silenced, spied on, caged, intimidated, interrogated, investigated, recorded, tracked, labeled, held at gunpoint, detained, restrained, arrested, tried and found guilty.

Make no mistake, the government is ready for a civil uprising.

Indeed, the government has been preparing for this moment for years.

A 2008 Army War College report called on the military to prepare for “widespread civil violence inside the United States” arising from another terrorist attack, “unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency, pervasive public health emergencies, and catastrophic natural and human disasters.”

Subsequent reports by the Department of Homeland Security to identify, monitor and label right-wing and left-wing activists and military veterans as extremists (a.k.a. terrorists) have manifested into full-fledged pre-crime surveillance programs.

Meanwhile, the government has been amassing an arsenal of military weapons for use domestically and equipping and training their law enforcement and administrative “troops” for war. There are now at least 120,000 armed federal agents carrying such weapons who possess the power to arrest.

Rounding out this profit-driven campaign to turn American citizens into enemy combatants (and America into a battlefield) is a technology sector that is colluding with the government to create a Big Brother that is all-knowing, all-seeing and inescapable.

All of this has taken place right under our noses, funded with our taxpayer dollars and carried out in broad daylight without so much as a general outcry from the citizenry.

It’s astounding how convenient we’ve made it for the government to lock down the nation.

The events of recent years—the invasive surveillance, the extremism reports, the civil unrest, the protests, the shootings, the bombings, the military exercises and active shooter drills, the color-coded alerts and threat assessments, the fusion centers, the transformation of local police into extensions of the military, the distribution of military equipment and weapons to local police forces, the government databases containing the names of dissidents and potential troublemakers—have all conjoined to create an environment in which “we the people” are more distrustful and fearful of each other and more reliant on the government to keep us safe.

Of course, that’s the point.

The powers-that-be want us to feel vulnerable.

They want us to fear each other and trust the government’s hired gunmen to keep us safe from terrorists, extremists, jihadists, psychopaths, etc.

Most of all, the powers-that-be want us to feel powerless to protect ourselves and reliant on and grateful for the dubious protection provided by the American police state.

Their strategy is working.

The tree of liberty is dying.

There will be no second American Revolution.

The message being sent to the citizenry is clear: there will be no revolution, armed or otherwise.

Anyone who believes that they can wage—and win—an armed revolt against the American police state has not been paying attention. Those who wage violence against the government and their fellow citizens are playing right into the government’s hands. Violence cannot and will not be the answer to what ails America.

Whether instigated by the government or the citizenry, violence will only lead to more violence. It does not matter how much firepower you have. The government has more firepower.

It does not matter how long you think you can hold out by relying on survivalist skills, guerilla tactics and sheer grit. The government has the resources to outwait, out-starve, outman, outgun and generally overpower you.

This government of wolves will not be overtaken by force.

Unfortunately, we waited too long to wake up to the government’s schemes.

We did not anticipate that “we the people” would become the enemy. For years, the government has been warning against the dangers of domestic terrorism, erecting surveillance systems to monitor its own citizens, creating classification systems to label any viewpoints that challenge the status quo as extremist, and training law enforcement agencies to equate anyone possessing anti-government views as a domestic terrorist.

What the government failed to explain was that the domestic terrorists would be of the government’s own making, whether intentional or not. What we are now experiencing is a civil war, devised and instigated in part by the U.S. government, which has engineered an environment in which peaceful revolution is impossible and domestic violence has become inevitable.

The outcome for this particular conflict is already foregone: the police state wins.

The objective: compliance and control.

The strategy: destabilize the economy through endless wars, escalate racial tensions, polarize the populace, heighten tensions through a show of force, intensify the use of violence, and then, when all hell breaks loose, clamp down on the nation for the good of the people and the security of the nation.

So where does that leave us?

Despite the fact that communities across the country are, for all intents and purposes, being held hostage by a government that is armed to the teeth and more than willing to use force in order to “maintain order,” most Americans seem relatively unconcerned. Worse, we have become so fragmented as a nation, so hostile to those with whom we might disagree, so distrustful of those who are different from us, that we are easily divided and conquered.

We have been desensitized to violence, acclimated to a military presence in our communities and persuaded that there is nothing we can do to alter the seemingly hopeless trajectory of the nation. In this way, the floundering economy, the blowback arising from military occupations abroad, police shootings, the nation’s deteriorating infrastructure and all of the other mounting concerns have become non-issues to a populace that is easily entertained, distracted, manipulated and controlled.

The sight of police clad in body armor and gas masks, wielding semiautomatic rifles and escorting an armored vehicle through a crowded street, a scene likened to “a military patrol through a hostile city,” no longer causes alarm among the general populace.

We are fast becoming an anemic, weak, pathetically diluted offspring of our revolutionary forebears incapable of mounting a national uprising against a tyrannical regime.

If there is to be any hope of reclaiming our government and restoring our freedoms, it will require a different kind of coup: nonviolent, strategic and grassroots, starting locally and trickling upwards. Such revolutions are slow and painstaking. They are political, in part, but not through any established parties or politicians.

Most of all, as I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, for any chance of success, such a revolution will require more than a change of politics: it will require a change of heart among the American people, a reawakening of the American spirit, and a citizenry that cares more about their freedoms than their fantasy games.

Bullshit.

A very small minority of armed citizens could overthrow the govt of this or any nation, if motivated. As ever, I am not advocating this course of action. The majority want exactly what they are getting, and that is what democracy is all about. Leave them to it – they will self-destruct eventually.

The key is armed. Guerilla tactics and war of attrition would wn out. They ALWAYS do. Always.

The question is what do you replace the current system with. No one has answered that yet.

When the answer to the question, “what do you replace the current system with,” becomes “who cares,” we will find out. At that point, the existing system will be unendurable – and it will be destroyed.

The article is nice cuck propaganda, though.

The second revolution failed already. It took place around 1860 -1865. Third revolution will fare a bit worse.

One could easily quote the Founding Fathers on the issue of facing overwhelming military force. Used to have a lot of respect for Whitehead, but it just went out the window. What a fuckin’ pussy! Don’t know who he’s running with, but he needs to get out in the real America for a while. He fails to realize that paid goons of the state are rarely motivated by any genuine passion for what they are fighting for, they’re just mercs. Patriots fighting for their families and property take a heap of killing, John. Whatever they bring to the fight, all you have to do is eliminate them, then you have it.

Littlefield, I’ll bet your field isn’t all that’s little…….Hollow Man, your moniker says it all…..

We’re a divided nation, the “revolution” will be multiple factions fighting against one another with the government being one of them.

More of a civil war for control of the government than a revolution to replace it with another.

The winner will be the faction that has the most allies and builds the most powerful coalition.

The outcome will be something like Iraq under Saddam with an overpowering government controlling faction using crushing force to keep the other factions living in an unwanted peace with one another.

Sadly your analysis of the coming doom of our nation technically by our own making and in general our own unconchous will as we stream thru our lives on auto pilot is quite correct . The only people held to account for anything now are those who have demonstrated accountable responsible behavior . The rest are excused in what reminds me of a 5 year old explaining why there is mud in the kitchen . This includes educated people in positions of control . Real revolution “never happen” but should that knock come to my door I will be taken down but not without as high a price as I can render ! I have spoken of government over reach for years only to be labeled a fool worrying about nonsense . Time will tell but I believe that time is running out !

I’m with Ll on this one. Just look what a couple of Kneegrows with minimal training and a rifle did to two large popo departments. Just imagine what a thousand or ten thousand well trained, well equipped men could do.

whitehead sounds like a bitch in this article, constantly complaining and then says violence won’t lead to the end of it. so the evil PTB are suddenly going to be less evil? people will start electing the right politicians? nope
when small enclaves and localities try to break rank they will be attacked. his solution sounds eerily similar to the french people responding to terrorist attacks with flowers, tolerance and candlelight vigils…

couldn’t agree more with you guys. in the last few years i’ve seen a lot and learned a lot.

the military standards are in decline and being gutted. there was just a post about lactation and breast feeding for “soldiers”. thats the sort of thing that makes militia shake in their boots, right…? the goal and recruiting is not centered on being trained and ready to WIN, its to appease. such a military is less of a threat to any uprising and those that are still there that see the BS won’t stay if hard lines are drawn.

also the majority of the best marksmen aren’t serving today, they are civilians competing as a hobby in precision rifle series and the vast majority are hunters so they aren’t benchrest pros, they know how to stalk.

while talking to some anti-gun women they told me it was stupid to have an AR15, the govt’s superior military trumps any uprising. I answered with “like how its worked in the Middle East against a bunch of goat fuckers living in caves, how’s that going?”
guerilla tactics indeed.

Maybe the point JW is trying to make is that armed revolution is pointless. A shooting war among the many factions that might participate would destroy whatever would be considered the prize, whether the prize is small and unobtrusive government, a healthy mixed economy, voluntary association among participants in a free market, or you-name-it.

I doubt that organized resistance is even possible, given the muddled minds of most merkins. Listen to any group of people discussing the state of the US and you’d get my point; five merkins, 7 opinions.

The loudest voices are raised by the people who have the least standing to complain.

The biggest threat to the Federal government is a united citizenry. When people arise who look like they may have the ability to unite the people bad things seem to happen to them. MLK was ok when he was all about fighting for blacks. When he shifted to the poor in general and stopped focusing on skin color divisiveness he ceased to exist. Who else seemed to have a general bent towards unifying the people? JFK. Dead. John Lennon was thinking even bigger since he was looking at the entire world and not just the US. Dead.

Could be coincidental, or it could be something else. I wonder if a person came to the fore front now that seemed to really unite the people how long would they be able to persist before they were no longer above ground. The Occupy movement seemed like it could’ve been one such movement, but it seemed to have no real leader nor no real demands so it was easy to diffuse. All they had to do was make it clear that the movement was all about taking from the producers and giving more stuff to entitled FSA members and then it really had no chance of uniting us.

Education is the only answer. Warfare won’t do it. People must be convinced not to cooperate with the government. They must be educated to the fact that it is not in their interest to assist the implementation of government policies. It is the only way.

OK let me get this straight.

The people of Turkey can overthrow their government. (The one from last week failed. Others have not.)

Tunisia can have their Arab Spring.

Ukrainians can have an Orange Revolution.

South Sudan can gain independence.

Former Soviet Union republics can break free.

And many other examples.

But, Americans can’t.

Yeah, right. Mr Whitehead should retire from the Prediction Game. He sucks at it.

I agree with John. Maybe not all of it, but in general, it is way easier for a small number of greedy bastards to band together to achieve their goals of stealing all the money than it is for a large group of disgruntled people to form a cohesive opposition to the theft. There are just too many agendas in the large group and only one in the small group. So once again, to keep it simple, here is a suggestion.

Never vote for anyone who is already in or has ever held a public office. Never vote for anyone who wants to be in public office. Never vote for a Republican. Never vote for a Democrat. Never vote for a Green or a Libertarian. They are all corrupt or will become corrupt once they get into office. Band together to select a local person that is willing to do the job for one term and get them to sign a contract that they will represent you in every vote and if they don’t represent the democratic will of those who elected them, sue them for breach of contract and put somebody else in there.

This is supposed to be a representative democracy. In the old days it was impossible to know the will of the electorate but today it is very possible to know what every single persons view is on every single issue. Use the internet to allow every single person to vote on every single issue before the government. If your representative can’t prove that he voted the democratic majority on any single issue then bring him home and take away his salary. Make your representative truly vote your democratic opinion.

This is a ground up movement that could lead to a more open and democratic government. It does not require a revolution and it is simple enough for both the upper and the lower tail of the IQ curve to implement.

We have gotten to where we are because we are unwilling to take the time to do the job of governing ourselves. We think that voting every now and then is going to get the job done. It isn’t. Stop watching the Kardashians and start paying attention to what is going on in government and suddenly you will find that you do have power. They might, if this is successful, try and take that power away through the party system but if every american were to suddenly find the balls to stand up and say “enough” and never again will I vote for a party candidate they would have no choice but to accept the candidates that we the people have voted into office. It probably won’t work very well for a while but eventually the corrupt and greedy will be flushed from the system and a NWO that is better than the current NWO will come into existence.

But what Rob knows?

Violent revolutions always end up with more of the same or worse because they aren’t any different in substance than what they’re overthrowing – they’re still about centralization of power. The way to defeat government and tyranny is not by fighting fire with fire, but by dousing the flames with water, and in the modern age, the water is digital. Decentralized and encrypted technology exists outside of the accepted apparatus and is ripping control away from the powers that be. I know some of you look down upon bitcoin and other technology but those people are very myopic and shortsighted. The revolution has already started and it’s being fought with bits and bytes, not guns and bombs.

Whitehead is a zit that needs to be popped! Will he ever write anything without mentioning his book?

He’s far too shortsighted. Any attempt to use the military to attack the sheople will immediately be met with a fractured military. I doubt that most of the police will go along and I think Whitehead seriously underestimates the power of the ‘Murican people especially once we are backed into a corner with nothing left to lose. It’s just a shame that ‘Muricans can’t or won’t recognize the power we have right now before the fighting starts. If they did, fighting might be avoided. I believe we could easily depose the evil, un-elected cocksuckers that currently control us. Their numbers are amazingly small.

The trouble comes in educating people about the power they have while we’re all distracted fighting among ourselves. The owners got game!

You would be amazed at what a bunch of old boomers can do with their guns at a rifle range. Many of the rifles I see at the range are long distance rifles.Beyond 400 yards .
The police learned a valuable lesson this week .They are getting a good idea of what would happen if they ( government ) repealed the 2 amendment and tried to take guns from Americans.
