TIM’S QOTD

Since Tim somehow got himself banned this morning by the security system, I’m posting his question while the Man With No Name restores his posting ability.

“I woke up this morning with a thought that seemed like a pretty good idea:

What if Hillary DOES win the presidency? It seems to me like a pretty simple way to profit from such a tragedy is this: On November 9th, drop $1,000 on any reputable arms manufacturer, wait for your money to double, and sell.

Are all arms manufacturers privately held? Can you buy stock in them? If so, how?

What are the TBP’ers thoughts on this?”

Admin,
One way to get banned by your security system is to accidentally click on “Administrator” at the top of one of your posts, something I have done a couple of times. Your security software sees it as an attempt to hack your site and immediately blocks entry for at least a day. Please have The Man look into fixing that bug.
Cheers,
Gryf

Agreed the trade is too obvious. Ever hear of the saying “buy the rumor, sell the news?” Pull up the chart of your favorite gun mfr – that’s the buying of the rumor.

S&W and Sturm Ruger are publicly traded companies. Both have done pretty well over the past 10 years.

Vista Outdoor Inc. used to be part of ATK company (Federal, RCBS, Savage Arms etc) and was spun off as the sporting goods side of their business. It is publicly traded.

There are no guarantees with anything obviously but there is enough history with these companies through various election cycles that a look at their charts will give you insight into what happens through each one.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that things will work out the same through then next cycle but who knows. No guts no glory I am told. I am also told buyer beware…

@Francis – your final two sentences from your comment above has just been paraphrased and entered in my Mental Hall of Phraseology, under the categories of “Strategic Implementation”, “Words of Wisdom”, “Overcoming Challenges”, “Conflictified Risk Assessing” and “Combo-clicheifying Within The Edification of Choicemaking” as follows:

NO GUTS NO GLORY, BUT BUYER BEWARE.

Thanks FM. This is a nice addition and I appreciate it.

Well, I would hate for anyone to think I was giving investment advice. I am not qualified. Mind you – not sure anyone is these days.

Also noticed I have a new stalker these last few days too (in two or so years it’s never happened). Almost all of my posts, including the innocuous ones (the sky is blue types) are receiving down arrows. Wasn’t aware that I was that important. It’s very flattering that someone is paying such close attention to me. Perhaps I should tell Mrs. Marion her husband has a new suitor?

FM – when I get down arrows I’m pretty certain people just get in a hurry and/or distracted and they just push the wrong button. It’s the only explanation I can think of? 🙂

🙂 I get lots of down arrows. My thoughts are not always popular. But everyone gets them here and for the same reason. That is the nature of free speech. The pattern is simply different is all – normally they do not follow idle chit chat like this. Recently they do. It’s hard on a person like me. I’m sensitive dontcha know.

You would be better off to take the $ and buy a gun and a lot of bullets.

You may be better off buying the guns themselves for resale as the talk of bans starts up again in Congress.

That usually makes the demand and price go up.

Parts and parts kits usually outperform the actual firearms when bans are proposed or instituted and are usually overlooked as a potential profit making item in ban times (or hard times trade goods after the time of chaos begins in the near future).

You might want to think long & hard about who you might sell to. It would be kinda self-defeating to arm your enemy if the SHTF for real.

Stocks like SWHC do not fare very well in recessions. In 2008 it lost like 90%. 3 years later, it was still in the dumps. Then it went on to rally more than 1000%.

If Hillary does manage to engage in election fraud on a grand enough scale to “win” the election, I’ll be looking at “defense contractors.” Her policies, and utterly incompetent appointees, will all but guarantee war(s).

Before the last ‘Assault’ gun ban, people loaded up on magazines, AR-15 lowers and other things which netted them a lot of $$ during the 10 year dry spell. These items were grandfathered in so it was okay to sell them.

Oh, and by the way, these are just the rifles. They plan on banning semi-auto pistols and semi auto shotguns. I when they say “ban” they mean that no one can own them, except for the LEO heroes.

Here is the passage on this from the bill:

“(v) (1) It shall be unlawful for a person to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a semiautomatic assault weapon.”

With the election of hilligula, the passage of a bill like this is virtually guaranteed.

Making your own from scratch seems to be legal under this as long as you don’t sell or transport it in interstate commerce.

I imagine it will be a skill many people will acquire on a large scale, like in the Philippines, and I doubt it will be the most peacefully law abiding types that will be doing it.

Crazy. I just can’t see how this gets passed. Even if it does someday enforcement invites an insurrection.

Even if all the gun manufacturers went out of business tomorrow, there are enough guns in private hands to last 100 years. Tbh, idk about ammo though.

Ammunition gets captured in battle, usually by the winner of the confrontation.

Guns too, along with heavier munitions (mortars, grenades, RPG’s, etc., as seen in the ME and other places).

Hidden away stuff won’t be getting used for anything but battles. Ever look at the scenes from the Romanian revolution? Many, many Mauser’s are in evidence on the civilian side, probably picked up and stashed by them and their ancestors during WWII, since they were not available for the people to own, with no one knowing they had them until they were used.

That’s not a bad idea, just don’t be surprised if you lose 10-30% before they take off again.

Another sure fire way to make money is to buy up as many Pmags as you can find at 10-12$ apiece, and order a dozen or so stripped lowers. 10 cheap stripped lowers @ 60 each is 600. Catch a sale on Pmags and buy in bulk, they can be had for $10 a piece. 40 Pmags at 10 each is $400, bringing your total to about $1000.

Eventually there will be a mass shooting during hilligula’s first term, and people will panic more than usual, since it will be the first time with her in office and the new congress. Should be able to easily triple that 1000$ selling those things, probably even more than that of you are smart about it. No broker fees, taxes, anything like that either.

But, before following my advice, make sure you have your personal stash squared away, otherwise it might seem really hard to part with all that stuff….
