I never really liked the stuff that made it to the radio. All time best song by J. Geils is “Chimes”. Interesting tidbit (not sure if it’s true for sure) is that J. Geils got kicked out of the J. Geils Band.

Monkey Island was a great album released during my senior year of High School.

Saw them back in 1973. Magic Dick was inspirational.

Saw J. Geils when they opened for The Rolling Stones in July of 1982 in Madrid, Spain. They were touring their Freeze Frame album and played a great set in perfect weather but the weather went full retard for the first half of the Stones’ set.

This is exactly the body shape that used to be considered the sexiest like in the ’40s and ’50s. Not the Barbie-doll bodies today that are unrealistic and lead to reed-thin females getting boob jobs to make up for the lost of fat in the tits from starvation diets.

While the band bore his name, Geils really wasn’t the creative force within it- almost all of the songs anyone recognizes today were written by either the lead vocalist (Peter Wolf) and/or the keyboard player (Seth Justman).

As the first commenter wrote above- Geils was kicked out of his band some few years back (I remember reading about it at one point) because he had secretly copyrighted the name of the band without telling them. I don’t know if they ever reconciled. While I never got to see them perform, I have read that they were a great act live.

Yes, but Geils was the “face” of the band, which sent many young female hearts fluttering, including my own in junior high. I like some of their songs, but not all. In my opinion, a good band, but not a favorite. But hate to see that he passed. All these people passing makes me feel old.
