Newly released footage shows the moment that police killed 27-year-old Antoquan T. Watson during a dramatic shootout. Watson had led police on a dangerous chase that ended with him leaving his vehicle and pointing a gun at responding officers. He was shot 45 times, and the officers were found not guilty of any wrongdoing.

I think it was in Texas a few years back where a man was shot by a woman, the police asked her why she shot him six times, her answer, I was out of ammo.
Some guy gets out of his car with a firearm shooting at you, your duty is not to wound and subdue, your duty is to kill. One shot, or a hundred shots, whatever it takes.
Police cannot shoot for shit. If they hit him 45 times they Lieterally must have shot at him 200 or three hundred times. The hit rates by police are appalling. Unless you are a female good Samaritan in pyjamas, in which case they kill you with one shot.
What does your group look like at a slowly moving target at 15 or 20 yards under stress? Yes, cops are poor shots, but most of us only need to worry about 20 feet in a self-defense scenario. In the case of Algonquin a shotgun would’ve been a better choice, and a few cops, each with a shotgun, would have made a most fascinating YouTube video.

It really doesn’t matter how many times he was hit. The bigger issue is how many times he was missed.
Every missed shot is a shot that could have hit an innocent bystander.
Paraphrasing here because it happened years ago in the city of Cerritos (Ca) I believe. LA Sheriff’s deputies had a guy cornered in a car after a pursuit and he made some threatening move which caused officers to unload something like 104 rounds at him.
They didn’t hit him. And supposedly were in a more or less semicircular formation that put many of them in the line of fire.

According to FBI statistics (80% of rounds fired by police MISS the intended target), if he was actually shot 45 times, the police would have had to fire 225 rounds. That’s either a lot of cops, or a shitload of reloads.
I am guessing the 45 is the number of rounds expended by the police, not the number of times he was hit.
In any case, I am sure the victim was a gentle giant who was hoping to begin college soon to study animal medicine so that he could care for sick abandoned puppies.

I understand people getting emotionally charged and love seeing perps get “blown away”. I like to see the bad guy get their comeuppance also. It does seem a bit dangerous to keep shooting like that not knowing if you’re going to kill an innocent. Once he’s down and/or the threat is neutralized, shouldn’t public safety concerns be top o the list?
If an innocent was killed, is it different, really, than a drive-by shooting where a toddler gets killed and we’re all shook up about it?
