Stucky QOTD: Christian Nationalism

First, a dictionary definition of “nationalism” —— “a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations”.

Q1:  What is right, or wrong, about the picture below?

====================================================

Trump to Jesus:  “I need your help to make America great again.”

Q2: Do you find the above picture depressing, or inspiring?

====================================================

My Answer:  I find both pictures UTTERLY REPULSIVE. Both images are completely UN-Biblical. I’ll bet the pictures truly piss off Jesus. (I may, or may not, expound on this later in the thread. But, my answer stands on it’s own merit.)

Is this the QOTD for today (evening) – Sunday? or for tomorrow – Monday? Receiving it this late today, I don’t have much time to consider it for today and by tomorrow my answers may change, and there will probably be a new question. I just had to know……

PS, What I am mostly offended by from the second picture is Jesus depicted as a European white dood.

I still don’t have a clear thought on the pictures but the second one suddenly made me wonder if kids/people nowadays ‘pray’ via Facebook or Twitter to some special hashtag? Does #GOD work?
(and for the record, for me, the ‘#’ symbol will always stand for either ‘number’ or ‘pound – lb’ and NOT some new-wave definition)

“Its own merit”

Presuming to know what God thinks is ridiculous. There is no way to know these things. Those pics may be divinely inspired. God may just love the everyloving shit out of Trump. Maybe that hair just turns him on. Maybe God loves Twitter and gets a kick out of what Trump tweets.

Those pics are UnBiblical? Damn, now you have done it. You have elevated yourself to that of prophet. I would keep looking up because God may hit that smite button of his. I do not think he likes self-anointed prophets. I am damn sure of it in fact.

Scotty, why is that depressing?
We live in the land of the free lunch.
Naturally, it follows that heaven is just a kiss away.
I used to think The message of Jesus Christ Superstar was sacrilegious.
Now I think it was a sober assessment of cretins who think that waving the flag is patriotism.

Life in the USA USA USA is life on Easy Street.
Years ago, somebody came up with drive-thru funerals.
We have grocery stores where you can shop in a modified Hoveround.
We have televised church services that you can attend from the comfort of your living room.

It used to be that you worked up your courage to ask a girl out on a date.
Today, you pick a girl up in the club and bang her in the parking lot.
It used to be you took care to prevent having kids before marriage
Now, you have kids with different women and Uncle Sam pays the rent.
It used to be decent whores could make a decent living.
Today, many girls sell their body over the internet for a few dollars.

This country is lost, it has gone to the dogs.
And you deplore the idea that 90% will not make it to heaven?
They don’t care for heaven, they are heathens and atheists, you can’t even call them agnostic because they don’t care to wonder if heaven is real. They just want to know if heaven has a ghetto where they can continue to fuck around in the after-life.

So, my understanding is that you are implying Jesus would not approve of nationalism.
First, lets start with a fair definition nationalism:
“The policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one’s own nation viewed as separate from the interests of other nations or the common interests of all nations.” (Dictionary.com)

A nice way of wording this is, ‘Putting the interest of ones own nation before that of other nations.’

Examples of Nationalism and its antipole, Globalism, can BOTH be found in the Bible.
The tower of babel: From the story it can be inferred that there were different people groups working together for the greater good (Globalism), and God clearly put his thumb down on that.
The nation of Israel: GOD formed the NATION of Israel.
Jesus forms the church: The Church is a global organization. One that integrates all nationalities, and all languages for the greater good.
A one world government is also philosophized in Revelations.

So, what does all this mean?
Basically, in relation to the government, Nationalism and Globalism are types of polices that can be pursued. There is nothing that says that both types of policy can’t be used by the same government.
In other words, we should be part of NATO(doing something for the greater good), but not pay all of its bills by ourselves(Not hurting ourselves for everyone else).

Back to the original point, would Jesus approve of Nationalism. There is nothing to say he would not if it was responsibly pursued.

1) The first picture is offensive because Jesus has nothing to do with the USA, except the USA is part of the world. Christianity has nothing to do with government. It is outside of government. I have said this before, and will say it again, Christians follow the laws of the land in which they live, unless those laws go against God’s word. And you follow God’s word, even if you are killed for it. But Christians also (early Christians at least) cause no problems with their neighbors or the government if they can help it. They don’t call the “police” when they are victims of theft, etc. They handle it among themselves. Christians are to trust God, not government.

2) The second picture is depressing because who knows what’s in Donald Trump’s heart. He professes to be a Christian, but many of his actions show he’s a hypocritical one. Who knows what Jesus’ plans are for Trump and what he will use Trump for. Perhaps he will use Trump for good and then later destroy him for being a bad guy. No way to know.

Yawn! Good morning… where’s my coffee. Hmmmmm, pics of Jesus …

Well, to start with, in previous posts you had mentioned that God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truthfulness. (John chapter 4 something)
So when you post any pictures of “Jesus”, you debase any discussion by lowering the spiritual relationship Christians have with our Lord to comic book parodies; this is where you want to have a serious discussion?
So, losing the pics, we are told to pray for our government leaders. When you lose the childish pictures, the discussion becomes a non starter, of course Christians pray for government leaders that we may pursue our faith without government harassment, unless you hate Trump, where the pics would justify your view that Christians are clueless neanderthals who worship pictures of Jeeebus superimposed over patriotic themes. So if you do profess a belief in Jesus Christ, put aside childish things and grow a set. If not, you are free to do as you wish, this is a free country and you are not held to any Christian standards.

Blessings, oh, I forgot….. forget it.

While the juxtaposition of Trump and Jesus is funny or disturbing or infuriating, it distracts from the real question – whether nationalism is inherently counter to Christianity. I don’t think so, especially since the seeming only alternative is one world government – which is another sort of idolatry, it seems to me. Individual nations can descend into evil and tyranny, but if the entire world were under one government, the danger of descent into tyranny becomes worse, since there’d be nowhere to escape to and no external opposition to the tyranny.

I think Stucky was hoping that Someone would step up and declare that God obviously wants to support and defend the USA more than any other country… that we are a “chosen” nation and our ideals are so much better than everyone else’s that we have a right to slaughter civilians from third world countries indiscriminately. And then, perhaps he wanted to make people realize how insane it is to think God blesses this country when we, as a nation, have spread greed and corruption to every corner of the globe. I sometimes think God really has loosed judgment onto this country in ways we can’t begin to fathom. Kind of like that guy in Vegas…

However, as much as I’d like to try to help Stucky with the shitfest, I am just glad to be tucked away out here in the hills in flyover country.

I’m not sure you can call it a frontal attack but he seems bent on tearing down all misconceptions that modern Christians entertain about God and his message. He could have gone on a YoBo-esque crusade to rebut televangelical heresy, instead, he is confronting folks with their own errors. Like a good boxing strategy, he is punching at the sides of the body, knocking out the wind before delivering the knockout blow to the head.

All grassroots movements seem destined to failure but that is the place to start. YoBo’s error was in attempting to deliver the knockout blow to the head before winning the hearts and minds of the commoners. Stucky is working it a different way and manages to engage his audience with undeniable knowledge, humor and a willingness to concede a point in order to win the argument. He is playing multilevel chess here whereas YoBo can only play Chinese checkers. So Solly.
