Sounds like the antithesis to BF Skinner’s Operant Conditioning: “Reinforcement. Behavior which is reinforced tends to be repeated (i.e., strengthened); behavior which is not reinforced tends to die out-or be extinguished (i.e., weakened).”

Good old BF. He waved the sword of knowledge over the heads of children and sent the humanists into a panic. Now we reward our dogs and keep them close and happy and we give our children phones and let them lay on a rug in the corner and lick their balls. Maybe next time we’ll listen closer. Maybe.
