HUD Secretary Ben Carson Mused That “The Purge” Could Really Happen… And He’s Not Wrong

Authored by Daisy Luther via The Organic Prepper blog,

The Washington Post recently published an article about Dr. Ben Carson, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. It started off mockingly, describing Carson’s theory that the movie The Purge could easily become really given a specific set of circumstances.

If you aren’t familiar with it, The Purge franchise is a series of movies that take place in a dystopian not-so-distant future. In that future world, things are pretty similar to how they are right now – there aren’t any flying cars or AI robots serving breakfast – except for one night a year.

And on that night, people can commit any crime without worry of punishment. Anything they do that night is legal, there are no first responders to save the victims, and there won’t be any court cases later.

It was Christmastime in Washington, and Ben Carson couldn’t stop talking about the apocalypse.

“Did you know,” the secretary of housing and urban development asked his acting chief of staff, Deana Bass, at a Capitol Hill holiday party, “that if North Korea detonated a nuclear weapon into our exosphere, it could take out our entire electrical grid?”

Bass shook her head.

“What’s that movie where there’s complete lawlessness and anarchy for one night a year?” Carson said, calmly resting his right hand over his left. “ ‘The Purge’! It will be like ‘The Purge’ all the time…” (source)

And honestly, he’s not wrong. There are a lot of people out there who seem like they’d salivate at the chance to off their neighbors without any repercussions. One of the movies, The Purge: Election Year, seems particularly timely after the vitriol of the last presidential race.

Crimes are becoming more shocking and brutal

We have reached an era of extreme brutality and virulent hatred that I certainly haven’t seen in my lifetime. Recently, I wrote an article based on the essay of Sir John Grubb about the end of empires and discussed unfathomable crimes.

Crimes are becoming more horrific and mindboggling. A 17-year-old girl was trying to walk home through a “no-go zone” in the UK and was sexually assaulted 3 separate times in one hour. A man in Pennsylvania tried to strangle his girlfriend to death because she changed the passcode to the IPad. A Georgia woman murdered her two toddler sons by putting them in the oven and then video-chatted their father.

A Hollywood fixture has been accused of assaulting and harassing dozens of women, which led thousands of other women to share their horror stories with a #MeToo hashtag on Twitter. I have seen report after report recently of teachers having sex with their high school students.

And things have become even more horrifying since then.

Just in today’s headlines, I saw:

And those crimes are a drop in the bucket. There are awful tales of such severe animal cruelty that I can’t get the headlines out of my mind. Tales of child abuse so mindblowing that it seems like they can’t possibly be real pop up every single day.

Complete disrespect for the political beliefs of others is now not only the norm, but it’s praised. People can lose their jobs because they voted for the “wrong” candidate. Cars with certain political stickers get targeted for vandalism. People are actually killing one another over politics. This is no longer about discourse – it’s about shouting over the people with different views.

In light of this environment, if it was totally legal to do away with people who were vocal about their different political philosophies, how far of a stretch is it to think that Dr. Carson is right about the potential of a Purge? Good people love to say how they would not participate, but if someone came for you and your family, you’d have no choice but to commit acts every bit as brutal as your attackers in order to survive.

When will it end?

Certainly, no time soon if we keep lumping people together because of who they voted for and assuming that we know everything about them based on the sticker on their back bumpers. We’ve had deeply controversial elections before and we managed to get past it, but when we generalize, we take away the humanity of the people we criticize.

When all we do is group people into “evil Republicans” and “crybaby Democrats” we miss the finer qualities of these people. And there ARE good qualities in just about every person, no matter what their political beliefs are. Even if you think someone is delusional, it’s important to try to understand the position from which they developed that perspective.

One has to wonder what it will take to bring us together. Dr. Carson strikes again with a movie reference.

…“There’s never been a time in the history of the world where a society became divided like this and did well,” Carson said as a crowd — including an off-duty New York Times reporter, D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser, a slew of representatives from housing nonprofit organizations and old friends from his presidential campaign — circled him. “And we don’t really have a reason to be fighting each other. There was a movie some years ago, a Will Smith movie called ‘Independence Day’ . . .”

With his soothing, story-time cadences and heavy-lidded gaze, Carson proceeded to hold forth on how Earth’s near-annihilation laid bare the superficiality of all the world’s strife. If only, he argued, people realized that the fate of humanity hung in the balance, then Palestinians and Jews, or even the United States and Russia, could be “like best friends.” (source)

How can we help each other from a place of scorn and derision? How can we come together when we deliberately divide ourselves every single day?

Let’s hope it doesn’t take an alien invasion or epic disaster to make us mend fences. The time is coming when we’re going to need our neighbors and they’re going to need us. Hatred breeds nothing but more hatred and it’s only a matter of time before Dr. Carson is right about that whole Purge business.

I take it to mean in a real-life Purge even politicians, elected and unelected, the judiciary, and their enforcers would play their part as well.

A short-lived part, but everyone gets to play…

This is why a foundation in biblical principles is important. There is nothing new under the sun, keeping your head while others are losing theirs will be a definite plus!

Not sure we need an article about Purging when just yesterday I submitted a QOTD about Crapping.

Seems redundant.

Enemy #1: The media

Every day, what the media does is equivalent to yelling fire in a crowded theatre.

“And there ARE good qualities in just about every person, no matter what their political beliefs are.”

Yes, you are correct; but it doesn’t matter. I’ve always believed in evolution and I understand that the time span for change can be quite long, however, I have yet to see elimination of stupidity within the human race.

Survival of the fittest – it certainly applied for most of human existence, as life was desperate and survival was omnipresent whether by food, shelter, or the sword. This no longer applies to modern society. Life expectancy used to be early thirties and is now in the 70-80 range.

I did go out on a limb with this comment.

As far as what is happening to people with opposing political views… good. That is how it should be. One side wants to destroy the country by running up massive deficits to hand out money to subsidize single motherhood and also wants an army of illegals to invade the country and rape all the women while collecting yet even more of my tax money. (Side note: is this why they are so in favor of these 3rd world migrants? Because they rape and create more single mothers?) I’m not saying the other side isnt also into massive deficit spending and many other stupid choices, but goddam its like comparing that girl who got raped 3 separate times while walking home to another girl who got catcalled at while walking home.

320 million people is a lot of people. More than enough to supply plenty of horrific stories. Ed Gein did his crimes 70 years ago. The Axeman of New Orleans was 100 years ago. Now we have the internet.

“There are a lot of people out there who seem like they’d salivate at the chance to off their neighbors without any repercussions.”

Just the ones with the over powered sound systems in their cars.

Especially the ones that woke me up at 3 am this morning.

The purge that is on the way will not be the survival of the fittest. It will be survival of the most willing to do what it takes to survive. I know more then a few preppers who have just prepped for who ever is going to take their stuff.

I was once pilloried in these posts for suggesting having to shoot a neighbor rooting around in my garden looking for a potato to eat. Those not willing to protect their food will starve with everyone else.

Articles like this are heartbreaking, as the solution and the resolution are right there in front of us, yet the instigators are working overtime to remove tolerance in the name of tolerance and forcing confrontations that will end badly.
Wisdom is needed to navigate these troubled waters, look for the good in man, but be prepared to respond accordingly with violence if your intuition screams threat.

The biggest hurdle in overcoming the myopia of modernism is understanding our inborn duality. We live lives that are both completely internal- no one can ever know your experience or feel your emotions- but we are completely dependent upon one another as a collective species. Most people, especially in a politically fragmented, complex society, have no real grasp of the biological imperatives that drive us beyond their own hunger and desires. They are so atomized- either as a bi-product of urbanization or as the direct result of the machinations of our elites by subjecting us to constant inflows of non-related sub-species- that they completely misunderstand the drives of the Collective organism. They assume that “everyone is just like me” trying to live their lives and raise their families. The ceaseless pitting of one successful form against another to produce an even more resilient and adaptable sub-species never ceases. Nature has it’s own purpose for us and we think our choices are self-directed when we are in fact harnessed to the Collective. It takes a lifetime to understand ourselves if we try very hard at it, understanding the motivations of something on a scale like societies is virtually impossible.

We live in a perpetual purge. We just don’t have the perspective to see it.

Why are white people trying to purge themselves? What is in their psychological makeup that makes the Liberals prefer other races over their own?

RPG 7’s are reasonably readily available in Mexico if you want to pay the price they bring.

But do you actually know how to use one?

It’s not hard, but there are some safety things you need to know, like once you arm the rocket there is nothing to prevent it falling out, hitting the pavement, and going off in your face if you tilt it a little bit downwards while moving around with it since it is designed to go off on impact.

It’s one of those common weapons that you would best learn to use before you acquire it.

Just my experience with them, others may have a different story to tell (or no story to tell at all since they can no longer tell it, being dead and all that sort of unpleasant stuff).

I have a Purple Heart from a B-40 RPG…and so does my entire M-60 gun team from the same rocket. They are a bad-ass weapon. It hit at the base of a big dirt mound we were behind…only reason we weren’t all killed.

The B-40 was intended as an anti-tank weapon and could go through 11 inches of steel, but in Nam they were used on bunkers, trucks, choppers, towers, blasting holes in the wire, M-60’s, individual fighting positions…just about any target.

We had a tactic we developed at night that paid deadly dividends a few times. In certain combat situations I would crawl away from the M-60 and open up with an M-14 that had tracer rounds in the mag (7.62 just like the M-60) on automatic, 3 to 5 round bursts (20 round mag) then scramble the hell out of there as I had just pointed a red finger to my position.

B-40 RPG rockets would come screaming in on where I had just fired from…then the M-60 would put a hundred round belt into the end of the white flash points where the B-40s had fired.

Then the M-60 (if it could) had to scramble to a different fighting position or get low in the hole for the tit for tat coming back.

Grunt chess.

If I could day dream about home defense weapons…I’d dream up a case of frags and some claymores. Already have the fishing line for some of the frags, plenty of barbed wire, and plenty of 2X6’s with nails (plus pine straw bales to hide the 24/7 bad guy/gal screaming surprise).

In San Francisco last year, there were 27,000 car break-ins, and the conviction rate was 2%. In one neighborhood, there is a break-in every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Break-ins have increased 26% in just over a year. Essentially, law has broken down there.

A reasonably good defensive position can make all the difference – but you can’t set one up in most cities, at least not obviously. You might be able to disguise things a bit, if you have some real estate – say, a “decorative” fence with pointy-topped pickets, flowerbeds in front and a ditch behind – but real obstacles to open advancement would probably get you in trouble with the city somehow.
Rural places are much easier to work with, no one will care if your fence is a real barrier and you can get enough real estate to have open lanes for defensive fire, tripping hazards to slow infantry and real walls to obscure defenders and absorb small arms fire. Maybe you should be looking for a place where you might hope to ride out the Crunch? Even get to know your neighbors, in order to band together for mutual defense? Just a thought.

Too late for peace. The media has done an extremely good job of demonizing anyone who disagrees with the narrative as a racist, misogynist, Nazi POS, and there’s no returning from that now. Just reading the wrong news sources on a public bus causes people to call me foul names and stare at me with death in their eyes. Multiple people in my company who dared to voice the opinion that we should take care of our homeless citizens before illegals, or that they didn’t want to vote for a corrupt woman like HRC, have been fired for no legitimate reason. The American flag, of all things, is now regarded on the west coast as a symbol of hatred and prejudice. It is too late for peace. The brainwashing has been going on for too long, and has been done far too well.
