I remember Camelot. Kennedy had his flaws but he was a patriot regarding the country. After his death we were in shock. And after the following deaths of RBK and MLK the country seemed to turn darker and you could feel the downward spiral of society. He also was wary of the Federal Reserve and signed an executive order for Congress to print its own money–United States Notes (red seal), which are still found in circulation today. Kennedy would have done much to reign in the “military industrial complex” by defusing the “Cold War” and minimize troop presence in Vietnam, as he was amenable to talks with the Soviets.
Kennedy’s stance on “civil-rights” would have taken a more nuanced approached, allowing change to come, albeit, more slowly.
Compare him with Lyndon Johnson, who despised Kennedy. From the “Great Society” and “Model Cities” programs to the deliberate attack on the USS Liberty (GTR-5) on June 8, 1967, in which he absolved Israel of any blame for this murderous attack as he “did not want to embarrass an ally”. Johnson was furious that his “false flag” operation with Israel was not successful and whitewashed the investigation along with Admiral John S. McCain (yeah, Senator John McCain’s “daddy”) into this “act of war” by Israel.
Johnson pushed through “civil-rights” legislation for purely partisan political reasons.
