Democracy Is Fighting to Survive the Rise of Western Authoritarianism

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

The European peoples whose governments were paid to sell out the sovereignty of their nations to the EU are experiencing great difficulties in being permitted to govern themselves.

As the result of Italians’ frustration with the self-serving elite who have ruled Italy for decades, the recent democratic elections in Italy brought to power two anti-establishment political parties, Five-Star and Lega (League), that have solid majorities in both houses. However, the Italian president, an operative for the EU, attempted to appoint the prime minister independently of the election results, tried to himself appoint a “technocratic cabinet” that would ignore the democratic outcome, and succeeded in blocking the anti-establishment winners of the election from forming a government for three months.

EU official Gunther Oettinger said that it was “not acceptable” for Italians to vote for anti-establishment parties and threatened Italians with financial destabilization that would “teach them how to vote.”

Previously, in the wake of the international economic crisis brought on by the “banks too big to fail,” the Italians and the Greeks attempted to govern themselves democratically, but it was not permitted. The European Commission appointed Mario Monti, a banker, to be Italy’s prime minister. Monti, a member of Goldman Sachs Board of International Advisers, European Chairman of the Trilateral Commission, and a member of the Bilderberg Group, was appointed by the elite, not elected by the people. His cabinet did not include a single elected politician.
(See my book, The Failure of Laissez Faire Capitalism.)

Greece suffered the same fate of having an unelected banker appointed prime minister of Greece. Later when the Greeks succeeded in electing an anti-establishment government, the EU used economic threats and punishments to prevent the Greek government from governing.

In the US the Democratic Party, presstitute media, and the security agencies have made a strenuous effort to overturn the election of Donald Trump. They have failed to evict him from office, but they have turned him away from his goal of normalizing relations with Russia and withdrawing militarily from the Middle East. In effect, Trump has been forced into the position of being the agent for what he campaigned against.

In the West and among Western funded NGOs that operate in Russia and China, there is mindless talk about Russian and Chinese authoritarianism. Yet, democracy is far more alive in Russia and within the Chinese Communist Party than it is in the West.

Western democracy has been dying for a long time. In the course of forming the EU, populations in some countries voted down membership. The vote was not permitted to stand. After a period of propaganda to instill fear of being “excluded from Europe,” populations were made to vote again. In this way they were strong-armed into sacrificing sovereignty to the EU.

It remains to be seen if the British vote to exit the EU will actually be implemented.

The Western elites despise democracy. They tolerate it only as a cover for their self-dealing when it can be manipulated to serve their interests. The Russians who want to join Western Democracy are clearly lacking in understanding.

Considering the seeds of crisis that the self-serving policies of the Western elites have sowed, the responses to the crises will be calls for and acceptance of authoritarian rule. It is entirely possible that the democratic era is approaching its end.

Actual Democracy became ancient American history about 1913 when the ZOG Oligarchs took over (we have had a Democracy Facade since). Society is divided three ways: (1) the Ruling Oligarchs and their Minions (2) the Middle Class (Conservative Makers) and (3) the Useless Idiot FSA (Liberal Takers). The Makers are being eliminated by technology and the Takers will be SOL when TSHTF (ref Venezuela). The Oligarchs are prepared with well stocked DUMBs, equipment and men for their Martial Law and Genocidal Plans for everyone else. Democracy is Dead.

America has never had an actual democracy, we have a representative republic where the general population elects it representatives to represent them in government which is structured by a Constitution to do it’s essential business.

We’ve come to ignore most of the limitations placed on the power of what the government is allowed to do, for numerous reasons, but it is still of the same power structure.

I dont think any of them would be working on a lamp shade… there’s no money in lamp shades; and even less tech (only creativity – which germans also dont do)

…more thought should go into your comment

Authoritarianism in the west is in direct proportion to democracy. Re: Venezuela. Majority rule without regard for the rights of the minority is not what we want.

FWIW, and no one seems to be concerned. if Obrador wins their upcoming election (which is becoming more likely by the day) we will end up faced with a Venezuela on our southern border.

Combine that with the Senate enforced open borders we have and we will see a huge migration of “refugees” coming here and bringing it to us with them.

Good riddance.

Democracy sucks. Think of the dumbest person you know. They have just as much political power as the smartest person you know. “Equality” never works anywhere, ever.

Francis Schaeffer was a very big thinker who warned that democracy would end in authoritarianism, with the people accepting it because of the chaos that had ensued from “freedom”.

“Freedom”, it turns out, is an opioid. Seemingly wonderful at first, but then requiring ever increasing doses to maintain the buzz. When you look around at the tattooed freaks, gender-confused, etc, etc, you have to conclude that mankind, as a whole, cannot handle freedom. Socrates knew this long ago.

I would highly recommend Francis Schaeffer’s last book The Great Evangelical Disaster. It was written while he was on his deathbed, although he didn’t know it at the time.

The Founders would be aghast that people who benefit monetarily (welfare recipients and govt employees) from govt largesse get to vote. That is despicable and ensures democracy and the republic will fall. It makes slaves of the taxpayer. It forces one person at the barrel of a gun to work and provide for another. It is an abomination. How this is allowed is beyond me. The sheeple are asleep, and are awaiting slaughter.

Govt employees and anyone who receives govt benefits should not get to vote. Better yet, a no welfare amendment should be incorporated into the Constitution.

Problem is, where do you draw the line?
If government builds a road that my trucks use to ship goods, am I not a recipient of government largesse?
If I vote for a politician who promises lower taxes for my bracket, am I not a recipient of government largesse?
If government builds a dam which gives me clean drinking water, am I not a recipient of government largesse?
Taxpayers are already slaves.

Government doesn’t build ANY of those things!
Government steals your currency through taxes.
It then uses that currency (which it printed) to pay the CONTRACTORS who build the roads, dams and never actually (Reagan excepted) lowers your taxes. Usually the loopholes are just shifted around to benefit one group or another, and the net taxation is HIGHER than before the “reform”.
If you had MONEY based on REAL ASSETS then were paid using MONEY and could spend / save / give MONEY charitably we would have few of our current (currency) problems.
And inflation, short of the government changing the DEFINITION of MONEY, would be rare.
Taxpayers are slaves, though, you’re right there.
Spartacus is coming to town when the Crunch (loss of faith in the currency) comes.

Without a (fairly strenuous) property qualification for ANY vote any kind of “democracy” (mass or representative) is doomed after a very brief initial period. The failed “takers” will always outnumber the successful “producers”
