Students blast Supreme Court ruling on gay wedding cake

Via Campus Reform

  • Students at George Washington University were quick to denounce the recent Supreme Court decision ruling that a Christian baker is not obliged to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple, but struggled to apply the same principle in other contexts.
  • What would they say if the case were about a black baker being asked to cater a KKK rally, or a Jewish baker being asked to provide a cake for a Palestinian wedding?

Last week, The Supreme Court ruled that a baker in Colorado was not required by law to provide a cake for a gay wedding, citing the right of individuals to deny certain services based on religious beliefs.

The ruling garnered national attention and renewed a debate on religious liberty and whether the government can force people to provide services for individuals or events that go against their conscience.

“His ability to exercise his freedom of religion ends when that infringes on another person’s ability to be who they are.”

Wanting to know where college students stood on the issue, I headed to George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

The students I spoke with strongly opposed both the ruling and the actions of the baker himself, arguing that he should have been compelled to bake the cake regardless of his personal beliefs.

“If his job is to bake a cake for a wedding, even if he doesn’t agree with it, he should still have to do it,” said one student.

“His ability to exercise his freedom of religion ends when that infringes on another person’s ability to be who they are,” insisted another.

Wanting to know if students would still want the government to intervene if the baker were of a different religion or conviction, we asked students a new series of questions…

It’s very important to the Leftists to force Christians to violate their religion.

One might ponder why, but if you ponder the question widely enough and long enough you will find the answer comes in a single word.

If you don’t already know it, ponder on it a while.

Why not? Seems as if that would be an additional method of demeaning the baker.

How come they never demand Muslims eat pork chops? Christianity is always the target. They can get away with attacking Christ for a little while longer. Better enjoy it while they still have time.
Off topic but for all of you who remember RE or Reverse Engineer .He is very sick and dying. You might want to say something to cheer him up a bit . Doomsday Dinner is his website.

“RE or Reverse Engineer .He is very sick and dying. You might want to say something to cheer him up a bit . Doomsday Dinner is his website.” ———bb the magnificent

bb, you piss me off just about more than anyone here. Yet, I also think you’re one the most nicest people here … a Real Mensch. Terrific thing you just did …. mentioning RE.

To those who don’t know; Reverse Engineer (RE) is a prolific writer. He can take 1000 words what can be said in 100. lol And he made some of the most outrageous claims ever made here. Remember “seven million will die!!”. He used to post here often. He finally left — don’t remember if it was his choice, or Admin’s — when he called Jim a racist for posting the ’30 Blocks of Squalor” articles. RE thought he knew-it-all. He was quite stubborn … as is our beloved Admin … and the two personalities clashed often and made for some of the better shitfests we had here on TBP. He and I also got into it quite often, and heatedly. But, at the end of the day, I liked the guy. Agree or disagree, that fucker made me think about my positions. And that’s a wonderful thing. And even when I still disagreed with him, I always did admire the detail and time he put into his articles and answers. That, in a nutshell, is RE.

Here is the link to his website and the article “Pain, Freedom, and Death”, where he talks about his travails.

=====================

“I shot the picture above from the threshhold of my Back Porch. It was a beautiful day here on the Last Great Frontier in early summer/late spring. Rain in the morning and then lots of warmth and sunshine through the afternoon. The farmers in Palmer I am sure loved this day, more like it through the summer and we will see new records set at the Alaska State Fair for Giant Vegetables. For me though, it was a day of realization that I am finished, done, kaput. I have nothing new I wish to write about Collapse, and I am tired of arguing the fine points with morons. I did what I am going to do with my life, which certainly could have been better but could have been worse too. I did manage to stay out of prison. The time has come for me to make my trip across the Great Divide, only cowardice stops me now from pulling the plug on myself. I am a worthless heap of meat flesh and should be dead many times over already. ”

You old timers … if you want to drop him a quick note, you can do it here;

Yes, I remember the 7 million. If I remember correctly, it was concerning Fuck-U-Sheema. Who says he’s wrong about that? Too hard to track. Anyway, I hope he finds it in his heart to leave me one of his piccassos.

I didn’t say 7 Million WOULD die, I said 7 Million DID die during the Great Depression years of 1932-1934. 😛 Misquoting me after I have left the premises…that’s low blow Stucky. lol.

Anyhow, it was a rough week but between the Morphine and the Antibiotics and all the rest of the pills I pop every day, I remain above ground at this point. Hope you all are doing well here on TBP. EXCEPT the fucking Nazis! lol.

By memory, RE, you advocated that old folks and the dying should srt themselves out on the iceflow. Guess that looks better from afar. Sorry you are ill.

Stuck – And my memory was that RE was banned because of the abuse he heaped on Admin, the site, and Admin’s family. I think the family attacks were the final straw.

I’ll remember him for being proud of paying for college on credit cards then declaring bankruptcy to avoid paying the bill. That’s some integrity! I believe he also figgered on taking from others during and after the pockylips to make up for his own lack of preps. It’s almost too bad hell isn’t real. It’d be a good place for a guy like that.

He was one of the few to ever be booted from TBP. Ahh….the good ‘ol days!

The definition of gay is happy and carefree. It has nothing to do with sodomites/faggotts or other sick behavior.

Private business/home/who you associate with/ect.tis your choice, not the govt.s or anyone elses.I will say taxpayer funded places must accept all as customers/students/what have you, whether I agree with em or not.

Personally,if I was a baker, would make “gay”wedding cakes, non of mine or govt.s business who marries who when adults.

I as a baker though if asked to bake a cake saying, say,”Death To Ring Tailed lemurs’,would decline the business!

Um, what if I told you that the gay couple? Like had to bypass um, like 24 bakeries closer to their, um, like home? To find one who like totally didn’t want to? And then ruin his um, life? And put him out of business and stuff in order to um, create a manufactured drama? Would that, um, like, totally change your mind and stuff?

Repeal the 19th.

“His ability to exercise his freedom of religion ends when that infringes on another person’s ability to be who they are”

When exactly did he infringe on their ability to be who they are?
When would a black baker not baking a KKK cake infringe on them being who they are?

As Ayn Rand once said “supporting freedom of the press doesn’t mean you have to buy them a printing press.” Same concept applies. NOTHING he did harmed them physically in any way shape or form.

You either own your own business, can dispose of your LABOR and PRIVATE PROPERTY as YOU see fit, or you are nothing more than a SLAVE to whomever says otherwise. Support an end to slavery. Support private property and private business rights.

Actually shocking to see that a few actually got it…especially the girl right near the end, who recognized that it was about property rights, not religion or any other such “distracting” issue.

Thank You Stucky ,I liked RE to or at least his writing. I would have responded earlier but I have been trying to get my truck repaired . Looks like I’m going to have go to another dealership. When I have gotten frustrated today I have thought about RE and had a change of attitude real quick.Good night.

Thumbs up for Mr. Liberty.
Right ruling for the wrong reason.
The baker owns the business.
The baker owns his labor.
Unless he’s a slave, he should be allowed to use them as he wishes.

Thanks.

The labor truly is the important concept here (though private property rights are the fundamental right involved). If someone other than you, OWNS your labor and can demand that it be put to service on THEIR behalf, against your will, how is that NOT SLAVERY????

“He’s a baker, that’s his job.”
How is that any different from “he’s a slave….that’s his job?”
