On this day in 1964, U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs into law the historic Civil Rights Act in a nationally televised ceremony at the White House.
In the landmark 1954 case Brown v. Board of Education, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional. The 10 years that followed saw great strides for the African American civil rights movement, as non-violent demonstrations won thousands of supporters to the cause.
Memorable landmarks in the struggle included the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955—sparked by the refusal of Alabama resident Rosa Parks to give up her seat on a city bus to a white woman—and the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. at a rally of hundreds of thousands in Washington, D.C., in 1963.
As the strength of the civil rights movement grew, John F. Kennedy made passage of a new civil rights bill one of the platforms of his successful 1960 presidential campaign. As Kennedy’s vice president, Johnson served as chairman of the President’s Committee on Equal Employment Opportunities. After Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963, Johnson vowed to carry out his proposals for civil rights reform.
The Civil Rights Act fought tough opposition in the House and a lengthy, heated debate in the Senate before being approved in July 1964. For the signing of the historic legislation, Johnson invited hundreds of guests to a televised ceremony in the White House’s East Room.
After using more than 75 pens to sign the bill, he gave them away as mementoes of the historic occasion, in accordance with tradition. One of the first pens went to King, leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), who called it one of his most cherished possessions. Johnson gave two more to Senators Hubert Humphrey and Everett McKinley Dirksen, the Democratic and Republican managers of the bill in the Senate.
The most sweeping civil rights legislation passed by Congress since the post-Civil War Reconstruction era, the Civil Rights Act prohibited racial discrimination in employment and education and outlawed racial segregation in public places such as schools, buses, parks and swimming pools.
In addition, the bill laid important groundwork for a number of other pieces of legislation–including the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which set strict rules for protecting the right of African Americans to vote–that have since been used to enforce equal rights for women as well as all minorities.

When I lived in Detroit, I had neighbors who I considered good friends. We generally looked out for each other and got along quite well. Race was never a consideration…The trouble started when their “cousins” and other relatives came to visit. I had a nice old car parked in my driveway, which the neighbor’s “cousins” proceeded to sit on, scratching the paint. When I asked them to “get off the car”, they responded with “f— you”. Bringing up this scene of events with my neighbor resulted in the neighbor stating that “boys will be boys”, and just “forget about it”. This event changed the whole dynamic of our neighborly relationship. I finally saw that “race” became part of the equation.
After more harassment from my neighbor’s “cousins” and relatives, I finally had enough and eventually moved to an all-white area.
If blacks want to be treated as human beings, they are going to have to reign in their unruly criminal thug relatives. When blacks excuse bad behavior by their own kind, they become complicit in the bad behavior.
Absent that, they deserve the treatment they get…even the “good ones”…let’s face it. Black cultural norms are very different than that of whites and other races. Blacks would do well to “act white”…and join civilized humanity. However, I hold little hope in that happening.

For almost 150 years the United States has been conducting an interesting experiment. The subjects of the experiment: black people and working-class whites.
The hypothesis to be tested: Can a people taken from the jungles of Africa and forced into slavery be fully integrated as citizens in a majority white population?
The whites were descendants of Europeans who had created a majestic civilization. The former slaves had been tribal peoples with no written language and virtually no intellectual achievements. Acting on a policy that was not fair to either group, the government released newly freed black people into a white society that saw them as inferiors. America has struggled with racial discord ever since.
Decade after decade the problems persisted but the experimenters never gave up. They insisted that if they could find the right formula the experiment would work, and concocted program after program to get the result they wanted. They created the Freedman’s Bureau, passed civil rights laws, tried to build the Great Society, declared War on Poverty, ordered race preferences, built housing projects, and tried midnight basketball.
Their new laws intruded into people’s lives in ways that would have been otherwise unthinkable. They called in National Guard troops to enforce school integration. They outlawed freedom of association. Over the protests of parents, they put white children on buses and sent them to black schools and vice versa. They tried with money, special programs, relaxed standards, and endless handwringing to close the “achievement gap.” To keep white backlash in check they began punishing public and even private statements on race. They hung up Orwellian public banners that commanded whites to “Celebrate Diversity!” and “Say No to Racism.” Nothing was off limits if it might salvage the experiment.
Some thought that what W.E.B. Du Bois called the Talented Tenth would lead the way for black people. A group of elite, educated blacks would knock down doors of opportunity and show the world what blacks were capable of. There is a Talented Tenth. They are the black Americans who have become entrepreneurs, lawyers, doctors and scientists. But ten percent is not enough. For the experiment to work, the ten percent has to be followed by a critical mass of people who can hold middle-class jobs and promote social stability. That is what is missing.
Through the years, too many black people continue to show an inability to function and prosper in a culture unsuited to them. Detroit is bankrupt, the south side of Chicago is a war zone, and the vast majority of black cities all over America are beset by degeneracy and violence. And blacks never take responsibility for their failures. Instead, they lash out in anger and resentment.
Across the generations and across the country, as we have seen in Detroit, Watts, Newark, Los Angeles, Cincinnati, and now Ferguson, rioting and looting are just one racial incident away. The white elite would tell us that this doesn’t mean the experiment has failed. We just have to try harder. We need more money, more time, more understanding, more programs, and more opportunities.
But nothing changes no matter how much money is spent, no matter how many laws are passed, no matter how many black geniuses are portrayed on TV, and no matter who is president. Some argue it’s a problem of “culture,” as if culture creates people’s behavior instead of the other way around. Others blame “white privilege.”
But since 1965, when the elites opened America’s doors to the Third World, immigrants from Asia and India–people who are not white, not rich, and not “connected”–have quietly succeeded. While the children of these people are winning spelling bees and getting top scores on the SAT, black “youths” are committing half the country’s violent crime–crime, which includes viciously punching random white people on the street for the thrill of it that has nothing to do with poverty.
The experiment has failed. Not because of culture, or white privilege, or racism. The fundamental problem is that white people and black people are different. They differ intellectually and temperamentally. These differences result in permanent social incompatibility.
Our rulers don’t seem to understand just how tired their white subjects are with this experiment. They don’t understand that white people aren’t out to get black people; they are just exhausted with them. They are exhausted by the social pathologies, the violence, the endless complaints, and the blind racial solidarity, the bottomless pit of grievances, the excuses, and the reflexive animosity.
The elites explain everything with “racism,” and refuse to believe that white frustration could soon reach the boiling point.,.,
It’s a shame that it took a couple of jews getting their heads pounded in to recognize that the “knockout game” (actually not a game) is a vendetta against whites and has been going on for quite some time.
This PROVES that there is one certain “group” that owns the mass-media that didn’t give a damn about whites being attacked by blacks until a few of their own (the chosen) were attacked. Food for thought, huh??
Race relations improved?? Yeah, right.
A number of years ago, my employer “volunteered” me for a project called “Paint the Town”. Ostensibly, this “project” was intended to “help” Detroit low-income senior citizens with minor home repairs, painting and other home improvement projects that would “spruce up” the neighborhood.
On the appointed day, me and my crew showed up to paint a house. There was a man and woman living in the house with three black male “teenagers” (approximately 18 to 20 years of age).
The “woman of the house” wouldn’t shut up, complaining about the color and paint application while the “man of the house” was “cool” with the color. The three “teenage young bucks” sat on the porch, drinking their “fortys” and smoking weed and were oblivious to the amount of effort expended by these white “saps” on their behalf.
When I got back to my employer, I told them in no uncertain terms that I would NEVER work on such a project again.
I grew up during the first “civil rights” era and observed firsthand what the “civil rights (for some)” movement has wrought.
I lived in a decent Detroit neighborhood that began to “change”. At first, there was “no problem” with the few black families that moved in. However, things got progressively worse. If you had a nice bike, you had to be aware of two blacks riding on one bike. The black riding the handlebars would jump off, knock you off your bike and take it. Quite often they only lived a block or two away. The stolen bike would be visible. Calling the cops was futile as they would say “possession is nine-tenths of the law”. The kids and their PARENTS would actually DARE the white parents to “come and take it back” (if you can).
Improving “race relations” was always a “one-way street”–whites giving up freedom of association and the right to live with our own kind and restrictive real estate agreements (covenants) while seeing blacks and their criminal behavior destroy everything they touch.
Dr. Carson still harbors racial animosity and preference for black “culture”.
After the Zimmerman verdict was announced, Fox News had Dr. Carson on one of the talk shows. I damn near fell out of my chair when I heard Dr. Carson state that “Zimmerman should have been convicted of something”, despite the jury’s verdict of acquittal.
How Dr. Carson could defend a thug like Trayvon is beyond me.
Dr. Carson’s advocacy for gun control (for honest citizens only) should raise a “red flag”.
I lost much respect for Dr. Carson after seeing and hearing him play his “race card” . . .
A good example of the liberal way of thinking is the case of criminal Nathaniel Abraham. This “youth” shot and murdered a man walking out of a party store. He had many previous “police interactions” (run-ins) in his past. He was given a “blended sentence” (juvenile and adult) upon conviction. Despite numerous infractions in the juvenile system, he was eventually released. His criminal behavior did not stop there . . .
It was later found out that the State of Michigan was going to give him a “free ride” four-year college scholarship. (Who says crime doesn’t pay??) The public outcry over “rewarding” this felon with a full scholarship was too much to bear. An outraged citizenry forced the state to rescind it.
“Young” Nathaniel Abraham is now doing “hard time” in a Michigan prison for armed robbery.
Now, tell me. . .despite the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent to “rehabilitate” Nathaniel Abraham–was it worth it??

Government, as it STEALS from EVERYONE, has no business is discriminating one bit. It was more than past time for ALL government laws that PROMOTED segregation, discrimination, etc. to be eliminated. But that is ALL the Civil Rights Act should have done. Instead, it destroyed the private property rights of everyone. government has NO RIGHT to demand that anyone beg for permission to open or operate a business, and they most certainly have NO RIGHT to prevent anyone from operating a business to compete with one that discriminates against anyone or any group of folks. THAT too was going on along with Jim Crow, etc. A fully competitive, fully FREE MARKET of businesses will address the needs of ALL, regardless of the discriminatory decisions of some.
That being said, thousands of ships in 1865 could also have undone the damage by “returning to sender.”
