The Knock At The Door

Guest Post by The Zman

I used to tell people all the time that if you have a chance to listen to Greg Cochran speak, you should take it, as he is probably the smartest person you will ever hear. Cochran has excelled in two fields, physics and anthropology. The former requires a very big brain in order to gain entry. In the case of anthropology, many of the people in the field are crazy or sociopaths. To be an exception and contribute to the stock of human knowledge, requires a rare combination of curiosity and blinkered indifference to social pressure.

Cochran has contributed three very important ideas that may not be correct, but they open up new avenues to understanding human evolution and biological diversity. In the book The 10,000 Year Explosion, he and his partner, the late Henry Harpending, explained how agriculture and human settlement accelerated human evolution. This explains local differences in skin color, eye color, hair texture disease resistance and other genetic differences in human populations. It also explains personality and cognitive differences.

Another idea, one that has received less positive press, is Cochran’s theory that homosexuality must be caused by something outside of evolution. For example, a pathogen that sets off a chain of events in the womb resulting in the child being a homosexual. Cochran points out that the observed level of exclusive homosexuality means genes cannot be the cause of homosexuality. The fitness cost of genes ‘for’ homosexuality being too great. Natural selection would have eliminated the gene.

His “gay germ” idea is controversial and it could be completely wrong, at least in the case of homosexuality. It’s utility is really in how it changes thinking about human disease and the treatment of those diseases. Take something like Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers have spent decades laboring under the assumption it is genetic, but have had little success in finding any proof. Well, what if the cause is something like a pathogen that sets of the process in the brain? What if cardiovascular disease is caused by pathogens?

That’s a huge and controversial idea, but it probably is not the one that most scandalizes the moral authorities. Cochran is most infamous for his work on Ashkenazi IQ. A dozen years ago, he and his partner Henry Harpending published The Natural History of Ashkenazi Intelligence. In it they argue that Ashkenazi ████inherit higher verbal and mathematical intelligence than other ethnic groups, on the basis of inherited diseases and the peculiar economic situation of Ashkenazi ████in the Middle Ages.

The paper is controversial for three reasons. One is the heretical idea that IQ is a real thing that can be measured. Worse yet, they claim intelligence is heritable, which means it is largely immutable. Smart parents have smart kids. Both ideas are against everything we believe and probably a direct threat to our democracy. It’s not who we are. Only very bad people think that human diversity is the result of biology. Everyone knows that racism is the cause of all the bad differences, while diversity is the cause of the good differences.

That’s bad enough, but the most outrageous aspect of the paper is that it focuses on the special people and that’s not allowed. Even mentioning them in a direct way is justifiably forbidden now. After all, the Nazis started noticing these people, talking about their “group differences” and before long the Holocaust! The fact that racists and white supremacists often reference this paper is proof enough that it should be banned, the authors forced to confess and then they should be hurled into the void as a lesson to others.

If further proof is needed, this post on Greg Cochran’s blog should be enough. The post itself is just one sentence long, but in the nearly 200 comments, Cochran counter signals Holocaust skeptics so hard he probably sprained something while banging away at the keyboard. Clearly, it is the sign of a guilty conscience. At the minimum, it suggests he is worried that the morality police will be coming for him soon. He hopes that his outburst can be presented at his trial and he will be given a reprieve. Good luck with that pal.

All joking aside, the post and the comments are a hilarious bit of Boomer posting. Ron Unz is an eccentric guy and he is prone to conspiracy theories. It’s hard to know how much he believes them. He could just find them intellectually titillating, like reading a very clever crime novel.  I get the sense that he is fascinated by the fact there is an official narrative and it is ruthlessly enforced. Almost all Americans struggle with the bit of reality. Either way, the worst you should say about Ron Unz is that he is a harmless weirdo.

Casual indifference is never allowed in a theocracy, at least with regards to the moral codes. You are either enthusiastically on the right side of the question or you are an enemy of the faith. There can be no middle ground. Maybe Cochran is worried that the authorities will be coming for him soon, so he is hoping to inoculate himself against charge of insufficient signalling against antisemitism. Like a lot of Boomers, he still thinks we live in a rule based society and that you can appeal to reason when defending yourself.

He would deny this and probably threaten to punch me in the nose for suggesting it, but false consciousness is common with many old white men. Just look at the comment thread in that post. Why are people in 2018 so worked up about something that happened 80 years ago in a foreign country? The cultural and ideological processes of the neo-liberal age blind people to their own motivations. You can be sure that the people commenting on that post felt great about it, but they never bothered to wonder why.

All that aside, they will be coming for Greg Cochran soon enough. If he is lucky, the non-binary, gender non-specific persons of uterus from the campus committee on inclusion will only require him to wear a dunce cap on campus. Maybe they will make him recant what he said about Cordelia Fine, peace be upon her. It’s only a matter of time and appeals to reason will have no impact, because we live in an unreasonable age, ruled by ridiculous people. One day, there will be a knock on the door and they will have come for Cochran.

Homosexuality is not caused by genes . It is a direct judgement from God for the Sin of Idolatry. Read Romans 1:18-32. It’s all there and I’m not picking on homosexuals . This judgement of letting society go as it turns from God to sin. Sin is our punishment as individuals and members of the larger society as we rebel . God just releases his hand and let’s us go.
I’m 57 so I can remember and see how far we have fallen as a nation . It’s scary .We all should fear what is coming.

Social justice only ends when all opposition views become taboo. Thought police will always find new tangents to pursue, and seek them out with a fervent focus on the violators. Sooner than we think will be the great purge of all who beg to differ!

Interesting scripture you pointed to, Beebs. Seen and studied it before, when some commenter (not here) pointed to it, years ago, when the AIDS epidemic hit, and offered Romans as a possible explanation for the cruel ‘punishment’ that befell victims who were flagrant in their sexual escapades, and nothing was off limits.
The New International Version is an easier interpretation, the KJV uses the word ‘filthy’ to describe how Paul chastised homosexual behavior, citing the ‘unnatural’ use of their bodies in depicting the orgies.
Wondering if Caligula’s reign was in the same time frame when the letters of St. Paul to the Romans was reportedly written or recorded.
For me, homosexuality and what causes it, was, and still is, one of those questions or topics that’s not easily explained, and has created a serious divide in people, with many moderates occupying the middle ground. A question not easily answered.
i.e., why does someone desire their own sex? What causes that? Is it right, wrong, or even more so, is it something that our Creator condemns or accepts? Plenty of opinions, and most come with a conviction that’s not easily changed. I have my own opinions about it, but am left wondering if, when we make our transition to the other side of life, if those questions will be answered by an all-knowing Supreme Source, or if it won’t even be part of our wondering, and either eternal bliss or damnation is the experience. Abortion is another one.
One thing is for sure. Homosexuality and it’s many variants is way more prominent and out in the open nowadays, and that’s another thing that is hotly debated. The openness and demand for acceptance.
Some close family / friends of mine just celebrated a marriage between two women.
It was a sign of the times, and love was all around. Agape love. Not Eros love. I wish them well, and
wouldn’t think of condemning them, or abandoning them for their decision.

Yet when considering cause and effect, or the law of unintended consequences, and
with all of society’s ills we face, it reminds me of an old cartoon, depicting a sign carrying, doom & gloom predictor: “Jesus will return soon, and boy, is He pissed.” True? False? Wise? Ridiculous? Hmm.

There was a prominent lesbian a while back who postulated that ALL homosexuals were created via molestation as children. You don’t hear this theory much (at all) due to the massive implications.

Quick …. how many times did JESUS talk about homosexuality? I’ll make it easy for you, beebs, via a multiple choice:

A) Zero
B) Never
C) Not even once.
D) All of the above.

If it was seemingly, and logically, not an issue for Jesus …. then why do you dwell on it so much?

Oh, because of Paul. Paul was obsessed with sex, not just homos. Probably because he was unmarried (so it is believed) … and there is no doubt that he was a Chief Chicken Choker. Personally, I think he took out his guilt on homos. Nevertheless, this is NOT the only instance where Paul’s teachings differ radically from those Jesus taught.

In short, Paul was a usurper, and I reject all his writings as heresy. So should you.

By whom, weren’t pharisees required to be married? Besides, what’s with his complaint about the ‘thorn’ at his side?

“I say to the unmarried and to widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I.” —– 1 Corinthians 7:8

Pretty much sounds unmarried to me. In the same chapter he later says that he has “the gift of celibacy”.

Of course, this might only mean he was “unmarried” at the time he wrote the letter. IOW, he could have been married at some time BEFORE. Maybe his wife died (if so, I don’t think there was a requirement for a Pharisee to remarry.) Maybe he divorced her. Maybe she ran off with someone good-looking. (They say Paul was an ugly fucker.)

Some people make a big deal about the word “unmarried” … that Paul could have used a Greek word for unmarried that meant “unmarried virgin”, but he didn’t. But, I don’t have time for such nonsense. I loathe Paul either way.

Absolutely no way of knowing what that “thorn” was … although many speculate … and I think eyesight troubles may be the best GUESS … based on this in Galatians; — “I am sure you would have taken out your own eyes and given them to me if it had been possible.”

Read the Gospels. Concentrate hard on Jesus’ teachings.

Then read Paul.

It’s often like reading two entirely different teachings. Paul was obnoxious, divisive, egotistical, and a know-it-all. Which is funny considering Paul didn’t even know Jesus. The Gospels weren’t even written when Paul wrote some of his letters. Yet, Paul didn’t even desire to learn about Jesus from the Apostles … the very same apostles and disciples who actually walked, talked, and ate with Jesus.

Rather, he shoved his bullshit theologies — mostly unknown to Jesus — down the throats of the many and various groups of Christians until he alone was left standing. Many see this as the “hand of God”. I see it as Satan prevailing. Fuck Paul, and I hope he’s rotting in hell.

He said he was in a retreat for 13 years and when he returned, the apostles had little to teach him. He was sent to teach the goys. Jesus was teaching people who knew the canons, Paul had to start from scratch. The apostles bristled at having to eat with Gentiles, Peter was revolted when asked to eat unclean things. Phillip is the lone exception. So it’s up to Paul to do the dirty work. He didn’t invent stuff Jesus didn’t teach, he added stuff he picked up in his retreat. In a sense, he is still keeping to the habit of Pharisees in his duty to the law, he observes it when it is right, as when he recognizes that the chief priest must not be offended. He’s honest, is that a crime?

“He didn’t invent stuff Jesus didn’t teach, ”

Jesus had nothing to say about homos … Paul was obsessed with homos and sex.

Did Jesus make circumcision, or not, a big deal? Well, Paul does.

Not only does Paul literally invent an entire “theology of Jesus” — one that Jesus would have rejected — but Paul even contradicts himself all over the place. If you can’t find them, well, that’s not my problem.

You certainly are free to continue to revere Paul … billions do, while folks such as myself hardly exist at all.

I’m done with this thread/post. As always, I submit my views only for consideration. I don’t give a rats ass if people believe my shit, or not. And I surely don’t feel like having a 100 post debate.

Respect toward you Stucky for noticing the difference between the teaching of Jesus to the Jews and Paul toward the rest of us. This difference is the key which unlocks the scriptures and is called rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Tim 2:15). The failure to recognize these differences is in direct correlation to the failure of the Christian Church at large.

Jesus said follow the law. Paul said we are not under the law. Next logical question (for one who actually wanted an answer) would be “why”… “what’s going on here”?

Galatians 2:7-9 KJV… “But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.”

Look, two gospel messages to two different groups of people! This scripture is obscured (2 gospels made into 1) in all but the KJB and Geneva Bibles.

“You missed by a country mile, Grace.”

I don’t think so Wacky… Here are a few statements to consider.

Mat 19:16-17… “And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.”

John 14:15… “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

Acts 21:20… “And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:”

The Jews were to keep the law.

You write… “He said it would not be erased but it would be fulfilled with his death and resurrection.”

You’re not necessarily wrong either. Hmmm…

What does the OT consist of? The law given to Israel, yes? (Exodus 19-20) They were to follow it by their own human efforts.

Deut 6:24-25… “And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. And IT shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.”

These people are claiming the law of God as their own and in their keeping it, they will be made righteous. Wow…

How’d they do? Not so good. They wound up killing their prophets, killing their Messiah and blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Can any human follow the law? No, only God can, because the law is a reflection of Gods perfect righteousness. So why did God give the law at all? To prove to man that he has no righteousness in himself; that he requires Gods righteousness to “live” as Jesus told them in Mat 19. Paul answers that question.

Rom 3:20… “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

By comparing ourselves to the perfect law of God we see clearly that we are in desperate need of help here. We’re no good, we have a problem only God can fix. What then is the NT?

Hebrews 8:7-11… “For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a NEW covenant with the house of ISRAEL and with the house of JUDAH: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.”

Fault was found in the first covenant; humans can’t keep the law. Notice carefully who the new covenant is made with. The house of Israel and the house of Judah. That’s not us. The law did not “disappear” with Jesus fulfillment of it. The new covenant promise is that God would ENABLE the Jewish believers to follow the law. God will put the law in their hearts and minds and CAUSE them to be able to follow it.

Ezekiel 36:26-27… “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.”

This began to take place in early Acts but soon ended as national Israel remained unconverted. As in the Galatians scripture in the above comment, the 12 remained in Jerusalem with the circumcision (the Jews) while Paul went into all the world with the gospel of grace for us.

God wanted a people here on earth to be an example of righteousness to the rest of the world that the world might learn from. A nation of priests. That people would be Israel. Clearly this is NOT happening today. If we are honest with ourselves we must then ask what is going on today? We are not under the OT law. The NT promises are not for us. There is not a nation on earth which is an example for us. What do we do to be saved?

We get Paul. We have Gods grace freely offered to us. Paul did speak with unbelieving Jews in his early epistles. Some confusion can be generated here as he deals with some strictly Jewish issues; but Paul is the Apostle to us Gentiles. The 12 are the Apostles to the 12 tribes of Israel. The rest of the world gets 1. What a task…

Still is 2,000 years later.

Rom 11:13… “For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:”

1 Cor 11:1… “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.”

2 Tim 2:7… “Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.”

A believer today ought to worship Christ and follow Paul’s example, not that of Jesus in the red letters. Jesus wasn’t talking to us in them. He was instructing the Jews who would believe on His Name… that He was who He said He was.

Mat 15:24… “But he answered and said, I am not sent BUT unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Anyone who seriously believes they can follow Christ to the letter as commanded is deluding themselves. Such a one is saying they can follow the law perfectly and perfect obedience is required.

James 2:10… “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

Christ through Paul (as all scripture is God inspired – 2 Tim 3:16) tells us…

Gal 2:16… “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

Gods grace today is a free gift that people are free to accept or ignore. The law is temporarily put away. We today are under no covenant agreements with God. He’s not pouring wrath out on anyone, yet. He offers grace and peace. He wants you to accept the gift of His Son and NOT be like the Jews who believed that their “keeping the law” would bring them righteousness…

Gal 2:21… “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”

Christ died to pay the sin debt we all owe. It is finished. Amen.

Rom 3:21-26… “BUT NOW the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare HIS righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time HIS righteousness: that HE might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”

Hope this helps!

grace and peace…

Of course, the real problem with the Jewish Holocaust is not that it isn’t largely true, but that it is used as a weapon of moral superiority and political manipulation (and profit) against a public that had nothing to do with it…The survivors of the Ukrainian, Cambodian, Biafran, Turkish, Yemeni, etc.. genocides have never succeeded in doing the same thing.

“The hormonal theory of sexuality and gender identity holds that, just as exposure to certain hormones plays a role in fetal sex differentiation, such exposure also influences the sexual orientation and or gender identity that emerges later in the adult. Differences in brain structure that come about from chemical messengers and genes interacting on developing brain cells are believed to be the basis of sex differences in countless behaviors, including sexual orientation.[1]:25 ”

This topic contains a sticky wicket to be sure…

And while I muse about this post, I wonder about if jewish semites associated with higher intelligence as measured in certain metrics; could they also be low on empathic scales, as are many autistic peoples?

And I have read where male homosexual activities are common to many Negro populations, especially in Africa, which accounts for the prevalence of AIDs and HIV infections there; and also in American blacks as it supposedly/reportedly is widely practiced but not really counted as gay behaviour culturally.

There is much to be learned about exogenous and epigenetic influences on sexual orientation.
