I just listened to that last night. I have never heard the Tears for Fears original, only the Jules one you posted. I like the Jules version better, I guess maybe since it’s the only one I ever knew. In ’83 I was a new mother and your kind of a zombie. I kept wondering when life was getting back to normal and someone with toddlers said “Um, this is the new normal, get used to it.”

Yes, the Jules version is more somber and quiet, more fitting the lyrics.
