Trump Blinks; White House Will Avoid Shutdown, Find Other Ways To Fund Wall
The White House on Tuesday said that it wants to avoid a partial government shutdown and has found other ways to fund President Trump’s border wall, according to spokeswoman Sarah Sanders.
Congress and President Trump have just four days to come to an agreement before large portions of the federal government begin to shut down. At issue is a fight over $5 billion in funding from Congress for the border wall, which Democrats led by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have flat out rejected.
Sanders told Fox News “We have other ways that we can get to that $5 billion,” adding “At the end of the day we don’t want to shut down the government, we want to shut down the border.” She then said that the White House was looking into other funding sources and believed that it could be accomplished legally.
“There are certainly a number of different funding sources that we’ve identified that we can use, that we can couple with money that would be given through congressional appropriations that would help us get to that $5 billion that the president needs in order to protect our border,” said Sanders.
None of that sounds like Mexico paying for it, but we digress…
Sanders’s comments come after a series of miscalculations by Republicans in recent days over how to try and get Democrats to sign onto $5 billion to pay for the construction of a wall along the Mexico border.
Last week, Trump said he would be “proud” to shut down the government over the issue, a statement that congressional Republicans openly said muddied their messaging. –WaPo
On Sunday, Schumer told Meet The Press that President Trump would not get funding for the wall “in any form.”

On Monday evening, frustrated Senate Republicans told the press they were expecting a formal proposal from the White House to avert a shutdown – perhaps around 5 p.m., however that never happened and the Senate moved on to other issues such as an overhaul of the criminal justice system.
“We’ll continue to have these conversations with both Senate and House Republicans and Democrats. Our team has been in constant communication,” said Sanders. “We’re going to continue to do that. I’m not going to negotiate here, but we’ve been talking to them just as recently as this morning.”
For now, while the Treasury Bill curve has improved, it remains anxiously kinked around the potential shutdown date (as demand for pre-shutdown liquidity inverts the curve)…

It’s one thing to back peddle on border wall funding, but to announce hours later that the U.S. government has pledged 5.8B in aid to Central America and another 4.8B in aid to fucking Mexico is almost incomprehensible. FM, I read foreign aid as tribute or bribery. We gave the Philippines $millions in foreign aid and then when Marcos was exiled, he brought back to Hawaii, several pallets of that foreign aid. That money is not for the people of the subjugated country, it is payola for the dictator working for us. This is the modern way of empire, no need for an occupation force or administrators which would cost extra money and the opportunity to secure more countries under the US umbrella. A repressive government in the pocket of the US is simply a dictator making sure he keeps getting his $millions each year. For the US, it is far cheaper to pay one dictator than have to mobilize its military at a much higher cost. Still, the US will invade on a dime if the dictator develops scruples or begins taking orders from a different buyer. They’ll come up with any bullshit excuse; endangered American medical students, dictators gassing their own people or because of a non-US initiated coup. You evidently don’t know how many groups and individuals the IRS came after aggressively. How many had their lives and businesses turned upside down. Did you not hear about Lois Learner and what she did? There was a well-deserved chill and a fear in the leadership and in the rank and file after 2012 that was real and icy cold. I take great issue with the categorization “delusional.” Without the explosion of the TEA Party in 2009/10/11 Obama would have done two or three times the damage he did.
The Tea Party’s decentralized formation was its strength but as far as it becoming a permanent political movement that decentralization was also its weakness.
This decentralization means that each individual “group” within the Tea Party had incredible autonomy. Each group did its own thing. Each group has its own focus — its own mission statement — that could be a federal election, a local school board battle or packing the local G.O.P. county party with precinct chairs to replace the RINO’s and give them a frigg’in spine for a change. That means the Republican establishment and the Democrats couldn’t measure the Tea Party’s success and power because they couldn’t track it as a unified caucus, because it never was a unified caucus!
That decentralization was also the Tea Party’s weakness. It’s was common that efforts to align Tea Party groups toward a common political purpose was impossible. Coalition building in smaller, or mid-size states — like Virginia and Ohio —yielded some great results. But, in a huge state like Texas — with more than 300 Tea Party groups sprawled across the geography — bringing them together was impossible like herding cats. However, all politics are local, and tremendous changes were made locally all over the country.
The heart of the Tea Party was ordinary citizens who, in most cases, were never involved in politics at any level before and had no intention of making it a full time vocation. THAT CERTAINLY INCLUDED ME. The learning curve on how to be effective was steep for all the groups but most never envisioned becoming active in politics or forming a new party…or doing whatever it is you think they should have done.
They just wanted to stop and or slow down the burgeoning threat by the Petulant One’s announced and now evident radical transformation of America and THEY DID THAT! For the most part Obama was right when he said they clung to their Bibles and their guns. That certainly included me. God bless each and every one of them who stood in the gap.

Back when everyone was lightheaded with the excitement and hope the Tea Party provided, I took the unpopular position of telling them it was bound for failure in this utterly corrupt Godforsaken system and that financial infiltrators and government infiltrators would undermine and destroy it soon enough.
I did not enjoy being correct and was never happy about the positively criminal abuse endured by the Tea Partiers.
Fast forward to today and 2.5 years of watching so many intelligent, grown men and women fall for the Trump doublecross is just about all I can take.
