Venezuela Is An Opportunity For Russia And China To Change The World

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

Nothing better illustrates Washington’s opposition to democracy and self-determination than the blatantly public coup Washington has organized against the properly elected president of Venezuela.

Washington has been trying to overthrow the Venezuelan government for years. Washington wants the state owned oil company to be privatized so that it can fall into the hands of US oil companies. That would ensure Washington’s control over Venezuela. Transferring the wealth out of the country would prevent any economic development from inside the country. Every aspect of the economy would end up in the hands of US corporations. The exploitation would be ruthless and brutal.

Venezuelans understand this, which is why Washington, despite wrecking the Venezuelan economy and offering enormous bribes to the Venezuelan military, has not yet been able to turn the people and the troops against Maduro.

Moon of Alabama’s explanation of Washington’s attack on Venezuela gives you a truer picture that differs completely from the lies voiced by the American and European politicians and presstitute media, a collection of whores who are devoid of all integrity and all morality and lie for their living.

I am not as confident as Moon of Alabama that Venezuela’s effort dating back to Chavez to be a sovereign country independent of Washington’s control can survive. Washington is determined to teach all of Latin America that it is pointless to dream of self-determination. Washington simply will not permit it.

Maduro, despite being the duly elected president with the mass of the people and military behind him, apparently lacks the power to arrest the American puppet who, despite the absence of any law or election as a basis, has declared himself to be president, thus creating a Washington-backed “government” as an alternative to the elected one. The inability of Maduro to defend democracy from within is a sign of the weakness of his office. How can Maduro possibly be a dictator when he is helpless in the face of open sedition?

If Russia and China quickly established a military presence in Venezuela to protect their loans and oil investments, Venezuela could be saved, and other countries that would like to be independent would take heart that, although there is no support for self-determination anywhere in the Western World, the former authoritarian countries will support it. Other assertions of independence would arise, and the Empire would collapse.

Venezuela is an opportunity for Russia and China to assume the leadership of the world, but I doubt the Russian and Chinese governments have the vision to seize the opportunity and, thereby, fundamentally change the world.

Putin is wasting his breath when he correctly criticizes Washington for its violations of international law. In Washington’s view, law is what serves American interest.

Here is Moon of Alabama’s analysis: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/51062.htm

PCR is really off his meds now. There is minimal popular support for intervention in Venezuela. The oil companies were there already and got expropriated. I doubt there’s very much interest among them in going back for seconds.

Meanwhile Exxon just made a huge discovery next door in Guyana. They can pump away contentedly without having to fight with crazy socialists in Venezuela. Exxon learned their lesson in Mozambique years ago.

I’ve seen many absolutely batshit articles this week decrying the oil company sponsored coup in Venezuela. They betray just astonishing ignorance of today’s oil economy and of course the history of all these major oil companies in troubled countries.

The President who puts boots on the ground in Venezuela is a one-term president. Every country in South America except Brazil has expropriated major US mineral/oil interests at one point or the other. Mexico cannot even get US majors interested in drilling there. So show me the oil CEO that’s going to invest in Venezuela. It’s just nuts.

Maybe Cheney and haliburton/brown n root ?

“How can Maduro possibly be a dictator when he is helpless in the face of open sedition?” The same way the Masonic Dictatorship in DC is ‘helpless’ in the face of open sedition.

Don’t forget, Venezuela owes half their oil to China. For payment on their debt. Also, Venezuelan oil is sulfurous, thick sludge, needing lots of processing. It’s an oil of last resort. Maduro, by replacing competent expertise with crony socialists, while skimming profits, has created his own shit show. Don’t blame it on anyone other than Mr bus driver.

i’m not an oil expert but when chavez was making an ass out of himself in the early/mid 2000 s,citgo oil was at most 7-11 stores, and there was a boycott against 7-11 until they severed ties w/citgo–
citgo was owned by venezuela, wasn’t it?
i assume that they were selling venezuelan oil —

“There is minimal popular support for intervention in Venezuela.”

Right, there is almost NO popular support. However there is much political support. The two are not the same. The Trump administrations appointed neocons are foaming at the mouth.

“I’ve seen many absolutely batshit articles this week decrying the oil company sponsored coup in Venezuela.”

John Bolton disagrees with you, he represents oil companies and U.S. corporations. He publicly stated his and the corporatocracy’s sole interest in Venezuela was to get oil companies a piece of the Venezuelan pie. He admitted this on NBC.

Thanks for this Ned. I’m sure Bolton and Neocons would love to get involved here. But my point is that I think there’s precious little interest among big oil or private investors in Venezuela. In fact there are projects now in Colombia and Peru that are a lot safer politically and cannot get financing at 50/bbl oil.

And the American public is dead set against this. Let the Russians and Chinese come in an try to fix this situation. It will bog them down for decades.

” …. the properly elected president of Venezuela.”

That’s the $64k question. I have no idea if he was “properly” elected because the internet is full of lies, lies, lies, lies …. and I have no way of verifying any story I read.

“They” are showing these HUGE protests of Vennies protesting against Maduro. However, in several instances the pics were actually PRO-Maduro rallies!!

I do think PCR is off his meds on this one. Remember when Saddam Hussein got something like 99% of the vote? I suppose PCR would also say that election was “proper”.

He seems almost giddy at the prospect of Russia and China being the leaders of the world. WTF????????

This supposedly anti-war dude seems to be itching for a war. If Russia or China attempt to build military bases in Venezuela then I am 100% positive it would lead to a Hot War. And PCR knows this also. Just what we fucken’ need, right?

————————— –

OTOH, maybe we should just preemptively bomb the shit out of Vennyland? How do you say “shock and awe” in Beaner language? After all, if we don’t bomb them now … real good and real hard … then it is just a matter of time before the Vennies come to America and start terrorizing the people in Peoria.

That’s the same exact reason our Congress just overwhelmingly passed a resolution to stay in Syria and Afghanistan. And, judging from pictures I’ve seen recently, those Venny peoples are waaaay more fucken evil.

Both Russia and China has billions invested in Venezuela. What if they decide to protect their investments? What if we start to see Russian and Chinese Naval ships in the Caribbean Sea? Maybe even one or two of the new carriers China has with four more presently being built. What if Russia and China decide to have joint war drills in the Caribbean Sea? Maybe even with Venezuela involved? Who could stop them? Isn’t the Caribbean international waters like the Black and Yellow seas? Wouldn’t that make our gulf coast facilities; like our oil refineries and chemical plants, vulnerable?

Just wondering.
