Update 2: Confirming that CNN was yet again fake news, moments ago the White House reported that, as McConnell said, President Trump will support the bipartisan spending bill that would avert another partial federal government shutdown, and will declare a national emergency to get more funding for his border wall.
“President Trump will sign the government funding bill, and as he has stated before, he will also take other executive action – including a national emergency – to ensure we stop the national security and humanitarian crisis at the border,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders says in a statement.
“The President is once again delivering on his promise to build the wall, protect the border, and secure our great country.”
Meanwhile, as expected, the Democrats were up to arms, with House majority leader Nancy Pelosi immediately warning that she will review “legal options” if Trump declares an emergency, and Trump’s decision should be met with unease.

Update 1: barely moments after CNN reported that Trump aides are ‘growing concerned” the president may not sign the spending bill, Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said that Trump will in fact sign the bill, but he added that Trump will also declare an emergency. From Reuters:

As Congress prepares to vote on the measure, advisers say Trump has grown increasingly concerned about what’s contained in the 1,100-page legislation that was released late Wednesday evening, and which Trump said he would consider as long as it did not contain any “landmines.”
Meanwhile, as more details about the package have emerged, conservative figures in Trump’s orbit have voiced new displeasure at the bill, includes not just Ann Coulter, but also Fox host Laura Ingraham, who tweeted earlier Thursday that Trump should not sign it. The White House had attempted earlier this week to bolster support among Trump’s media allies.

I’ll read the bill itself on some chilly day as I sit in Hell. But, it seems that no one who is actually concerned about the illegal immigration problem likes this bill. I don’t know (and don’t care enough to find out) what nasty things might be in the bill; however, it seems that it is possible that even if the illegal immigration problem were made worse, Trump would do it if it would allow him to keep his signature promise of building the wall.
So, it seems possible that we could get a wall, and still have an ever worsening illegal immigration problem. Call me crazy, but it seems that this might be because a wall is a necessary, but not sufficient, component of stopping (and reversing) illegal immigration. That is, a wall is no panacea.
Yes, I realize that everyone shouting for a wall will say in their own defense that “they never claimed it was a cure-all.” Which, of course, begs the question: Then, why treat it as if it were? This IS politics, after all — where perception determines reality.
I don’t know, and won’t speculate, on how all of this will play out. Maybe Trump will do everything I would like him to do regarding illegal immigration.
Given that it is at least possible that the wall could be built and yet no discernible impact would be made on the illegal immigration problem as a whole; and given a record of:
— not only not “draining the swamp”, but of apponting every available “swamp creature” to every available post;
— not only not protecting, but attacking 2nd Amdt rights;
— touting a “great economy” with bullshit manufactured government stats while doing nothing that might stave off the inevitable total collapse of our “great” economy;
— bombing Syria as nearly his first official act (because fake gas attacks make Ivanka cry), being about to invade Venezuela based on MIIC urgings, and otherwise doing nothing to get the U.S. off its addiction to permanent war;
— supporting things like Civil Asset Forfeiture and other aspects of our increasingly Orwellian near-police-state;
— and on, and on (this is just a rant off the top of my head)
