FRAGILE LIVES, SHATTERED DREAMS

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat

Now the neighborhood’s cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives?

Chances thrown
Nothing’s free
Longing for what used to be
Still it’s hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams
Go!

Jamie had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home ’cause he’s got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot

Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD’d and died
What the hell is going on
The cruelest dream, reality

Chances thrown
Nothing’s free
Longing for what used to be
Still it’s hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams
Go!

Chances thrown
Nothing’s free
Longing for what used to be
Still it’s hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams

This is nothing compared to what’s coming . When the Bankers finally decide to collapse the world economy it’s going to be The Great Depression × 10 with a lot more loss then shattered dreams.

I love this,I was working a resi job and a kid who lived there has this Offspring album playing that song,I said cool song and he said yah,but when were the kids all right?I laughed, brought him the Who the next day along with some other60’s- 70’s classics(including Tull of course). He gave em back about a week later/burned a bunch of copies off my cd’s,his dad said thanks and was serious, guess I got kid to listen to stuff dad had tried but gave up with.

That generation scares the Hell out of me. Sure times are bad but they would screw themselves even if it was the best of times.

For me, they were the best American punk band of all time. I own all their original albums.
