One of the kids bought me “24 Beers of Advent” which is a 24 pack of imported 16oz. craft German beer. I started in late and have been drinking diligently. There’s some good German Helles lager in that box, believe me! Meanwhile, I still have the better part of another case of Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest marzen left over, with some Pilsner and two bottles of Salvator dopplebock for really cold days.
American brew is ok, but at some point you have to try those German imports. Just make sure they’re less than 6 months old or less and drink ’em fresh.

Less than half the flavor and none of the fun.

And when we’re gone from here, oh well, our friends will be drinking all the beer.”

Most American beer is like making love in a canoe (it’s fucking close to water) but I’ve found few, like Elysian, which impressed me. But for the most part, European beers — German, Belgian, Dutch, etc. — are my personal faves, with a few other countries like Australia (Coopers!) deserving honorable mentions.

“Most American beer is like making love in a canoe (it’s fucking close to water) ….”

There’s actually a fairly decent American beer …. Yuengling.

— David Yuengling, emigrated from Wuerttemberg, Germany to Pottsville, Pa., in 1823 and opened a brewery on Center Street in 1829. It has a nice German taste to it.

Another reason to try it … they are Trump fans.

— In 2018, Yuengling hosted Eric Trump on a media-accompanied tour of the brewery. On the tour, he allegedly said to Eric Trump, “Our guys are behind your father. We need him in there.” After word got out about Yuengling’s support of the Trump campaign, many Yuengling drinkers boycotted the brand. Yuengling’s response? “We survived Prohibition. We survived two world wars, when you couldn’t get any grain. We’ll be fine.”

Two great comments above.
I’m a fan, because they haven’t seen fit to distribute it to the Mitten, where I hang out.
So, the rarity of it compares to my youth in the 70’s when Coors was rarely seen east of the Mississippi. I remember back then their cans had 2 push buttons on top, for the spout and breather hole, instead of pull rings.

Regards Yuengies,
So, the occasional visit to Ohio, or when friends travel to states that sell it…
at least a case of bottles is requested, for entertaining or self indulgence, and a case of cans each month in the summer, to stuff a few into the golf bag, to enjoy, sometimes with a cigar, especially
when the day’s score is rising rapidly from errant shots, and missed putts.

Tried Yuingy Lite recently, but it doesn’t get it. Love to enjoy the full bodied red for its flavor, and its very reasonable price, unlike craft beers, such as from Bell’s Brewery.
But, their Oberon, and Two Hearted Ale is good, and the fruity Hopslam is decent, too. Bell’s is out of Comstock, MI.

And down in Florida, many establishments have Yuengling on tap.
Now, I’m daydreaming…

Thanks for the Trump support message Stucky – now I have ANOTHER reason to love Yuengling. Too bad they don’t sell it in NH. And now with COVID, I can’t go down to NY and bring it back :^(

According to the map up above, I’m in the 25.5″ zone, but the local maps are saying 6-12″ We shall see. It was 3 degrees this morning, so it’ll be light and fluffy which is fine with me. Very few power outages that way.

Founders out of Michigan is one of my American favorites. Along with Yards in Filthadelphia they make some damned good porters. In my spare hobby time I will brew 22oz bottles at home. One of my favorites uses a liquid strain of Bavarian weizen yeast.
A few years ago I brewed 5 gallons of a nice 6.5% American amber ale that could’ve floated a battleship on the head of foam it produced. It aged for almost a year but didn’t survive a month of drinking. When the time allows I’ll do it again.

Living in W TN, we seldom see snow. In fact there are many more snow “storms” predicted each year than actual snow of any kind. I have often wondered if Kroger pays the meteorologists to enhance their forecast of snow just to up their sales, because the stores are packed whenever the dreaded “S” word is mentioned in the forecast.

Agreed. Grew up in Jackson MS. 1/2″ of snow paralyzed the entire city the 5-6 times it happened.

Used to live 3,600′ above sea level in the NC Mtns. The mgr of the local Food Dawg, er Lion, said screw milk & bread, beer, chips & salsa were always the first items to be depleted.

On 12/9-10/18 it snowed 20-21″ there. Moved to Charleston 2 weeks later, then Beaufort. I see there’s a mix of ice/snow up there right now. Yuck. In March 1993 we had 31″ of wet snow in 36 hrs. I don’t wish that on anyone.

In MN we have a concept called “too cold to snow”. It’s ok, though, because we usually have some left over from last year.

Grew up in NE PA. We had snow on the ground from November (sometimes earlier – I remember trick-or-treating in the snow) until April (and sometimes at Easter). No one ever felt the need to “stock up” before a storm.

The population has become a bunch of pussies.

Guess it was because the parents had forgotten where they had put them from the last time.
