Two days ago, in its infinite wisdom, the government of Chile announced that they were once again closing the national borders and putting the country back into lockdown.
I had been in Chile since late February, spending time at our farms and touring our agriculture operations after a successful harvest season. But needless to say I was on the first flight out.
It’s not just Chile; these same sorts of restrictions are happening all over the world.
As we mentioned in late March, the British government has also forbidden its citizens from leaving England and imposed severe financial penalties for anyone doing so.
This is extraordinary, given that both Chile and the UK are among the top 5 most vaccinated countries in the world.
The UK in particular has vaccinated 85% of people over the age of 60, i.e. those who are, statistically speaking, the most vulnerable to severe COVID-19.
It’s ridiculous to simultaneously assert that the vaccine is safe and effective, while at the same time commanding your heavily vaccinated population to stay home because of COVID.
Spain just passed a new law that went into effect last week requiring everyone to wear a face mask in all public places, indoors or outdoors, no matter how many people may or may not be around.
According to the law, if you’re sunbathing on a deserted beach all by yourself, or camping in a forest in the middle of nowhere, you are legally required to wear a facemask.
Lithuania, which has administered more than 500,000 vaccine doses in a population of just 2.7 million, has locked the country down, closed businesses, and is even forbidding its citizens to travel to other cities within Lithuania.
The Italian government recently locked down most of its country, placing the majority of citizens back into the most severe restrictions, just in time for the Easter holiday.
We can see this trend in dozens of countries around the world. It’s almost as if it’s 2020 all over again– we’re right back where we were a year ago.
Even in the United States, where plenty of governors have loosened restrictions, the federal government is pushing back as hard as it can on freedom.
They’re encouraging local businesses, for example, to maintain tighter restrictions, even when state governors relax the rules.
And the big corporations are playing along.
Companies like Starbucks, Target, Marriott, etc. require masks and other restrictions at ALL of their US locations, regardless of whether or not local rules require it. And big corporations are some of the loudest voices calling for health passports and mandatory vaccination.
This is one of the reasons why the ‘War on COVID’ reminds me so much of the War on Terror.
It’s been nearly 20 years since 9/11. They’ve spent trillions upon trillions of dollars fighting the War on Terror. They’ve awarded extraordinary authorities to the government in the name of security. They’ve trampled all over the Constitution and individual liberty.
And they’ve made people participate in all sorts of pointless security rituals, like taking off your shoes at the airport.
Yet they STILL haven’t declared victory in the War on Terror.
After all, there will always be some evil new threat lurking, which the media will promptly use to terrify people and make us give up even more freedom.
Similarly, there will always be some evil new COVID strain or superbug.
And count on Big Media to be standing by ready to terrify viewers, while public health officials force idiotic rules upon us (like the “wet sand good, dry sand bad” decree in Los Angeles from last year.)
Part of me thinks they’ll combine the two– COVID and terrorism– with stories of some startup terror cell deliberately infecting operatives with a new COVID strain and sending them on airplanes into the United States.
I cannot begin to imagine how Draconian the government reaction will be. Or that of ordinary citizens.
And this is another major similarity between COVID and the War on Terror.
Because in addition to the inherent endlessness of it all (i.e. the real ‘Infinity War’), and the pointless, almost comically silly rituals, both COVID and WoT managed to dehumanize our civilization.
After 9/11, the government and Big Media helped create a new culture of suspicion. The prevailing motto was “If you see something, say something.”
Citizens were taught to rat out their neighbors over completely innocent, innocuous activities, and to view one another as potential threats, not as human beings.
They’ve managed to do the same thing with COVID-1984.
We’re not human beings anymore. We’re nothing but diseased vermin. Literally just BREATHING around someone is now considered impolite, at best, and a crime at worst.
I’ve been inside elevators where masked people face the walls and remain silent… because of COVID. Or they refuse to enter an elevator if another human being is on it.
Government officials encourage us to rat out neighbors if they hold a family holiday gathering, and ‘call out’ people who hug one another.
And it’s perfectly acceptable, in the name public health and COVID justice, to pepper spray someone who’s sitting by themselves hundreds of meters away and not wearing a mask.
All of that is what brought me back to Mexico this weekend.
On Saturday evening I went for a stroll outdoors and happened upon a Mariachi band that was playing. Around 100 people were outside eating ice cream and sipping drinks.
Children played with one another and danced to the music while parents engaged each other in light banter.
In a nutshell it was… normal. Free, without fear or dehumanization.
A handful of people wore masks, which was totally fine. 95% did not, which was totally fine. No one judged, and no one cared. Everyone simply respected everyone else’s personal choice.
And that’s a level of sensibility and freedom that has become exceedingly rare in this world.

The most normal place is inside the head of any human being who says “Enough of this bullshit! I’m living my life in freedom!” The worst crime you can commit in eyes of the Covid fascists is to ignore them and pretend they don’t exist. In other words, live normal!
I wasn’t too keen on what they used to tell me and define for me was Normal. Normal requires TIME TRAVEL, not physical travel in this time. This time is beyond fucked up and abnormal.

I’m with you, I’m sick of the trend of writers using one or two sentences to make a paragraph. It disrupts more than it affects. And I really like Simon’s writing. I know it’s economical in print, but come on — if I need to make dramatic pauses to tell a story, it’s like padding the runtime in a cheap movie.
Is this what we learned in Yenglish class (see what I mean)?

I find the occasional very short paragraph for emphasis to be effective. However, the way this is written is indeed annnoying.
Thank God SOMEONE has pointed out the elephant in the room in Simon’s article! There was me getting all worked up about the threats to our democracy!
In all seriousness one has got to be asking themselves, just what the hell is really going on?
Air travel from hither to yon is going on every day. People are still shopping at big box stores and grocery stores. Restaurants are playing that silly mask on/mask off pantomime, hospitals- at least everywhere in the US- are not overrun, nor are the funeral homes stacking up corpses like cordwood. Governments insist on some spectral pandemic that is so dangerous we must give up all of our basic human rights in order to combat it while they open the borders to all comers, where 9 year old children (allegedly) are walking 2,600 miles in flip flops from Isthmus of Panama to be housed in in dog kennels on arrival.
Where is the sense in all of this? None of it holds together in a coherent narrative- either it is a modern day plague or it is just another seasonal flu, but none of the mandates, protocols, or policies address it either way.
All the evidence suggests the latter. The annual average of deaths in the US remains virtually identical to last year. The elites in media, politics and industry flaunt the regulations they promote for the public. They make decisions in an arbitrary and capricious manner based on imaginary realities; restaurants are dangerous, grocery stores are not, Mom and Pop shops are petri dishes, WalMarts are fine, masks are required but not goggles. None of these half steps and semi-measures address a pandemic but rather seem designed to demoralize and alienate the populations rather than protect them against it’s spread.
Apparently this was all revealed in the show “Utopia” from the British Channel 4 in 2013. It follows pretty closely the ploy of covid-19, including that the plot was revealed (in the context of the show) by some entertainment media (comics).

They’re forcing The Great Reset and global communism on us little people many years sooner than they planned. Too many people won’t take the vaccine for a virus that >99% recover from. The lockdowns are the stick so you’ll take the vaccine carrot in exchange for *possibly* getting your rights and freedoms back. Like Stalin killing the Kulaks, the globalists have to kill the middle class to implement their plans and the lockdowns are quite effective at doing that.
You’ll note that all the globalists think the world would be a better place if the world population was much lower. Even Bill Gates has said if they do a good job with vaccines, they’ll reduce the world population by 10-15%. His vaccines have already killed or maimed thousands in Africa and India.
Canada changed its doctor assisted suicide rules in the past few weeks to include depression and mental health as suitable reasons for a state paid doctor to legally kill you at your “request”. How might they get otherwise normal productive people to be depressed enough to “request” the state kill them? Why more lockdowns of course!
Never forget these people hate us and want us dead and now they’re stepping into the light and showing us they mean business.

One thing it does show, and that is that the so called vaccine appears to be ineffective.
With 25% of the population in the US inoculated, you would expect to see numbers dropping like a rock, but clearly that is not what is happening.
While I certainly have no fear at all about “variants”, if it’s true that they are more easily transmissible than “Covid Classic”, case#’s could be buoyed by the emergence of the various variants. That’s fine. In fact it’s good. It’ll help create more immune people more quickly.

There is a different between legal and lawful. I’m sure the globalists and/or Woke companies will find a legal loophole that makes vaccines mandatory for the peasants. However, it will NEVER be lawful because you can’t force people to take a medication against their will, no matter what the situation is. That’s a basic human right that we were born with. It may need to be defended.

I’ve been reading Simon for years now, and his style always has me add a grain (or 2) of salt. I remember when Chile was the best thing since sliced bread. Not so much now. Everything changes. Always. Simon recommends multiple passports; I recommend multiple passports with multiple names. So there’s a little truth in what he sells, just like everybody. The trick is delving out the bits of truth in a world of sales pitches…
I heard that Mexico — or at least Mexico City — is now on board with early treatment of Covid cases with Ivermectin. Since Ivermectin in nearly all cases prevents hospitalization and death, that may explain why people down there don’t seem to be worried about Covid anymore. There’s a word for that: sanity.
There’s another word for Messicans taking an anti-parasitic drug, diarrhea.

The 64K dollar question. When I see fit young men wearing masks when they jog, or old guys with COPD dragging themselves up the hill with masks on, I shake my head and ask, why? why? Why! Ignorance is no excuse in this Age of Wifi. The truth is a finger tip away and a 5 minute search.
