“Joe Biden Slips Up Again, Doesn’t Appear to Know What 12 + 4 Is During Speech on Education”

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden completely embarrassed himself when he said that he wants kids to have a minimum of 14 years of education.
Later on in the speech however, Biden confusingly said, “I want to guarantee the additional four years of public education for every person in America.” The public school system in the United States requires 12 years of education so four additional years of education would be 16 years, not 14.
“One of the reasons why we are a leading country in the world for so long and still on the edges is because we’re the first industrial nation in the world to allow 12 years of free education back at the turn of the 20th century, but everybody’s caught up,” Biden said during a speech in Crystal Lake, Illinois.
“At the time they were debating what should be education in America? The argument was there should be 12 years of free education. And that’s what got us ahead. That’s what had us leap ahead of the rest of the world. But today everybody’s caught up. Does anybody think in the 21st century with changes taking place in technology and across the board that 12 years of education is enough to be able to live a middle-class life? I don’t think so.”
“And so the fact of the matter is I’ve decided we should have a minimum of 14 years of education. I want to guarantee the additional four years of public education for every person in America … Starting with providing two years of universal high quality preschool for three and four year olds. … I want to add two years of free community college for everyone.”
Biden continued, “I proposed to increase the maximum Pell grant, which if you’re below a certain income you qualify for a Pell grant from right about 6,500 a year to $8,000 a year. … My plan will reduce student debt for future teachers, double the size of annual federal scholarships for future teachers, will also support a hundred billion dollar in school infrastructure improvements, including community college … My plan will also provide up to 12 weeks of paid family leave for medical care.”

actually started buying 1950s high school english lit and grammar and american history textbooks up to Eisenhower era, so when I am forced to provide education to my grandchildren I can–you can teach basic math to kids using small rocks from the yard. Once they can add subtract multiply divide and calculate percentages and fractions, and they know how to read and write and know a little of our history they can pursue additional education on their own, but they will be able to get along OK with just the above, assuming there is no more internet.

As a ute, I was slow in math. After getting a “U” (Unsatisfactory) in math — in the first grade! lol — my parents bought this to teach me. And it worked really great! Learned more, and faster, with those beads than what the teachers taught.
There was a study done many years ago (eye-rollicytis yet?) where they took kids that had formal “education” from grade 1 and then took another group of kids that never had any kind of formal instruction until 5th or 6th grade. Not surprisingly, at the beginning of the yearlong experiment, the first group did better on a math test. However, then they taught the second group of kids math for a year, essentially catching up 5 years worth of math within 10 months. And whaddaya know, the second group of kids outperformed the first group after 1 year, plus, and more importantly, they had superior problem solving skills.
That study gives me comfort on those days that our children do nothing but bicker with each other, watch stupid youtube videos of someone else playing Fortnite and try to shoot a Nerf dart into each other’s ears.
