MEANING OF AMERICAN PIE

I think my interpretation of McLean’s lyrics was better.

Once during an interview McLean was asked “What’s the meaning of American Pie”?
He then quipped, “To me it means I never have to work another day in my life”.

Interesting. I had the 45 when it came out and was 11. I remember a lot of the 60s being a kid during the era. One thing that is overblown is MLK. He was not all that highly regarded amongst most whites. A lot of the truth of the marches like Selma have been censored. White SJWs from the north were stirring shit up. When you lived in the deep south and the split was damn near 50/50 in many rural areas, whites knew they had to keep them in check. Along came Johnson and basically destroyed their family units forever.

I was in high school and remember seeing the riots that seemed to break out everywhere he went and held one of his “peaceful” marches. Maybe that is where the Black Lies Matter people got their idea for “mostly peaceful” protests.

Pretty much no tears were shed in my neck of the woods when he got shot.

The only thing, the ONLY thing you got wrong was you should’ve put a pic of Michelangelo’s pic of “the Father touching a human, any pic of Jesus, and a dove for the Holy Spirit, when the lyrics stated “the three men I admire most – The Father, Son and Holy Ghost”. That would’ve made your interpretation of McClean’s song PERFECT. I REALLY enjoyed your take on this classic song, just excellent job. Thank you for posting it. I grew up in the late 60’s, early 70’s and I have to tell you the America I grew up in, the innocence, honesty, integrity, is lost. I try to explain how great it was growing up when I did and how much of America is lost to the generation of “free love”, “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll”. You see today the 60’s generation and who they worship. That would be Marx. And now THAT generation is in charge. God help us all…

One of my favorite songs. Started to learn this on violin. Got good thru 6 of the 17 pages of sheet music. Geez.
