SUCKED IN BY CLICKBAIT

“If you believe in God, you MUST read this stunning 2,000 year old secret!!” …. screamed the advertisement on the TBP home page on my computer. I ignored it hundreds of times. But, this weekend the relentless advertising worked … as I finally clicked on the link.

What pops up is a video, naturally, that is about 15 minutes long.  The title screams in big bold capitalized letters on a red and black background —>  “THE ANTIDOTE TO OLD AGE HIDDEN IN THE BOOK OF EXODUS”.

I almost logged off immediately.  I mean, there must have been a billion or more Bibles printed since ol’ Gutenberg invented his printing press … and you’re telling me there are still secrets left to be found?  Riiiight.  Still, I continued to watch because he had me by my short-hairs or, at least my curiosity did.  (Link to video is at the end of this article, under “Source”).

He talks at length about how people in the OT lived much longer lives. Adam, Methuselah, and Noah all lived over 900 years. Even Abraham died young at 175 years old.  Ohh, ahhh!!  Now I really really can’t wait for the secret! Can ol’ man Stucky live to 150??  (“Hey, Stucky, I heard you knew my great-great-grandfather, Francis Marion. What was he like?”. “Well, son, he hated giraffes.”). I’m sure you’re all waiting with bated breath so, let’s get on with it.

The Big Secret is …… God’s formula for Holy Anointing Oil.

the word of god (exodus 30:22-33)

This is how you make it ….

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant calamus, 500 shekels of cassia—all according to the sanctuary shekel—and a hin of olive oil.  Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil.”

This is how to use it ….

“Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law,  the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense,  the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand.  You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy. Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.“

And here are the PROHIBITIONS and WARNINGS  …

“Say to the Israelites, ‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come.  Do not pour it on anyone else’s body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred.  Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people.’”

Well, I sort of mislead you.  The entire passage itself isn’t the secret.  It is ONE SPECIFIC WORD which is the huge, ginormous, massive,  ohmigawd-are-you-fer-real secret;

That word is “calamus” ….  because that’s NOT the original word in the old Hebrew Bible!  Stay with me folks, because it’s about to get really interesting.

The original Hebrew word is “KANEH-BOSM“.

OK, big deal, so what! Well, sound out the word out loud.  If it sounds like “cannabis”, that’s because it IS!  Scholars at Hebrew University in Jerusalem (as well as most other Biblical scholars and etymologists) agree that the  literal translation of kaneh-bosm (also written as  q’aneh-bosm, kaneh, kannabus, kanabos, and kineboisin) is “aromatic reed” or “aromatic hemp”.

That’s right, folks, Moses and Jesus were hittin’ the Bong, cuz God told them too!!!

Very Brief History Of Cannabis Use In Olden Biblical Times.

I’m going to be very very brief because I don’t want to get side-tracked. Believe me, or look it up yourself. The cannabis plant was very well known in ancient times, used extensively in religious ceremonies, and even personal use, from the Far East to the Middle East and beyond, by many various cultures, peoples, and religions.  This absolutely definitely includes the Hebrews/Israelites.

There are at least four other references to cannabis in the OT … which, again,  is mistranslated as “calamus” each and every time:  Song of Songs 4:14,  Isaiah 18:4-5, Jeremiah 6:20,  Ezekiel 34:29.

When did the mistranslation occur? The error originally occurred when the Hebrew Bible was translated into Greek, around the 3rd century B.C., and the error  was replicated ever since in all subsequent translations.

Why did the mistranslation occur? The error was almost certainly done on purpose.  The Israelites stopped using  KANEH-BOSM after their return to Jerusalem from the Babylonian captivity. The reason was simple; other peoples and religions used kaneh-bosm in their religious rituals, and the Hebrews did not want to be like other nations worshiping their strange gods. .  People often do not understand that Judaism constantly evolved over the centuries.  The faith of Abraham, who lived around 2100BC is different from the Judaism in the last book of the Old Testament, Malachi (written around 400 BC).  Well, the redactors couldn’t just eliminate the entire section dealing with cannabis so, they did the next best thing … change the problematic word to “calamus”.

“You Went To Far When You Implicated Jesus As A Cannabis User, Ya Moran! and you’re going to hell for posting a blasphemous picture!!”

Really?

You do realize that “Christ”  is a title (not Jesus’ last name).  From the Greek word “Christos”, which itself is a translation of the Hebrew  Messiah, which means ….. “ANOINTED”!  If the Holy Oil was used to anoint/consecrate pieces of furniture in the Temple, then surely it is not a stretch to imagine Jesus — the Son of man, Son of God, God in the flesh — being anointed with the same oil! Jesus is more worthy than a temple chair.

“They cast out many devils and ANOINTED WITH OIL many that were sick and healed them.” —- Mark 6:13

Did Jesus use the Exodus oil?  Can’t say for sure, since the text is silent. However, there is no way to rule it out.  Jesus knew the OT inside and out, so he surely knew about the Exodus formula, and since there are no other God-given oil formulas in the OT, it is more than reasonable to assume that’s what Jesus used.  (And I highly doubt he was fooled by the mistranslated word “calamus” either cuz, you know, he was also …… God, and He knew what HE said to Moses!).

Furthermore, Jesus’ most frequent healings were various skin conditions (leprosy, dermatitis, psoriasis), muscle conditions such as rheumatism and possibly multiple sclerosis (in the gospel of Thomas Jesus is referred to as “the straightener of the crooked limbs”, eye diseases, epilepsy (usually referred to as demonic possession),  and issues related to menstruation.

And guess what folks?  It only took humans another 2,000 years to figure out that ALL of these conditions respond well to treatment with …. cannabis!  Instead of getting your panties all tied up in knots you should celebrate that Jesus knew about Sweet Mary (Jane, not his mom) thousands of years before modern science came along.

Did you know that we humans have something called an endocannabinoid system?!!

Folks, this section is mind-blowingly amazing.

Our “endoCANNABINoid system”  affects many critically essential bodily functions such as, but not limited to movement, mood, memory, pain sensation and sleep.

Our bodies naturally produce cannabinoids.  When we don’t produce enough of them, we get sick and develop serious ailments.

When in short supply, our bodies very easily assimilate the cannabinoids in weed. You can see from the above picture that CBD, CBN, and THC “fit like a lock and key into existing human receptors“.

This ability for cannabis to come to our rescue, to “bridge the gap”, when our bodies no longer do the job adequately is really quite amazing.  Now, the big question is –> is this symbiosis accidental, a mere coincidence, another wonder of evolution, or is it something more?  I think it’s something more.  It seems to me that the marijuana plant was specifically designed just for humans, a plant that heals, and enlightens.

Help thou my unbelief

I want to believe the video.  But, I’ve always been a skeptic about things even as a young adult.  Now that we live in a World Of Lies and Liars, who ply their trade 24x7x365, I am a bigger skeptic than ever before. I don’t even believe my mom when she says my zipper is open.

1.)  My first objection is theological.  Let me put the warning from Exodus in big bold red lettering …

“Do not pour it on anyone else’s body and do not make any other oil using the same formula …. Whoever makes perfume like it … must be cut off from their people …”

Don’t make this formula!!  Don’t use it!!  Or you will be cut off!!  Can the message be any clearer??  How in the world does anyone get around that?  I have no idea … and would really like to know.  If there is no way around the prohibition, then I am afraid to say that the pastor who uncovered this secret, and the doctor who came up with the right concoction, are probably full of crap and going to hell.  (Too dramatic?)

2)  Second theological doubt.  The text shows that the main purpose of the oil is to consecrate things related to the temple …. NOT humans, generally. (Priests and possibly kings being the exception.)

3)  Third theological doubt. None of the five instances of  Kaneh-Bosm in the Old Testament have anything to do with health.  Why bring it up? Why mention that the ancient Patriarchs lived for hundreds of years??

4)  The process of making the concoction is lost. We have the list of ingredients and quantities but, no instructions.  For example, do you use the entire cannabis plant or only the leaves, do the other spices need prep work, how long do you soak it in olive oil … and so forth.  Not only that, but no one really knows exactly how much a shekel weighs (the answers vary quite widely).  Without all this info, how is it possible to make the Holy Oil exactly as God intended?  It seems that knowledge is lost forever.

—– From the Exodus Effect website, concerning their uncovered secret; “The anointing oil prepared from the bible contains no Tetrahydrocannabinol(THC), the chemical that induces highs.”  You see the problem here?  Moses didn’t know about the THC molecule!  So, already, we have a significant change in one of the main ingredients … a change that nullifies God’s recipe.

—— Dat be POTENT!!!  Let’s say a shekel weighs about 10 grams.  So, 250 shekels of cannabis is 2,500 grams … or 88 ounces … or 5.5 POUNDS!  A “hin” of olive oil is 1.5 gallons. What we have here is over FIVE POUNDS of weed soaking in one and a half gallons of olive oil.  Holy cow!!!  No wonder Lazarus rose from the dead.

5.   The oil is purported to heal …

“Those who have used this oil, including many non-Christians have reported almost “miracle healing”… including relief from arthritis, autoimmune disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, prostate issues, alzheimer’s, heart disease… and 51 other deadly conditions …”

Seriously?  Olive oil, 3 spices, and a heavy dose of weed cures all that??  Maybe it can cure Covid? Muh pappy always said, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.“.

6.  It took him and his doctor friend 32 tries to get the right formula.  It worked the 33rd time because his wife was pain free.  So, he used his wife as a guinea pig 32 times??  And what does “it worked” mean?  What specific ailment was his wife cured of?  What makes him thing that 33 recipe will work on other ailments?  And, BTW,  that whole wifey thing, the doc coming along at just the right time, then quitting, then giving it one more shot, then … SUCCESS …. well, it all sounds like a Hallmark Christmas Special, not real life.  And if he REALLY just wants to help people,  why charge $67 for a book?  What about the poor Christian family who lives paycheck to paycheck, and can’t afford $67 bucks?  What about them?  Why not charge $10 for an eBook?  What … that won’t make him rich enough, fast enough?  Yeah, I told you I was cynical!

Faith trumps doubt

1)-  It’s like this;  “I know there is scant, if any, geological evidence that the entire world was under water, which was higher than even Mt. Everest but, it’s in the Bible … so I believe it anyway.”  I could go that route — many do — but I don’t want to.

2)-  I am firmly convinced that the ancients, the sages, the medicine men and shamans from thousands of years ago knew far, far, more about healing via plants than we do today.  We are still catching up to their wisdom.  Big Pharma still goes to remote jungles to look for cures they can steal from plants (and the animal world, also). As such, I believe there is hidden benefit to that concoction because ancient medical knowledge is precious as gold, and Psalm 104: 14 states — “He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herbs for the service of man“.

3.  The Exodus verse is ….

…….. GOD talking to Moses.  GOD, Himself!!! 

Ya got that??  God could have talked about a thousand million other things.  He could have given Moses the best damned Matzoh Ball Soup recipe of all time.  But, no, GOD …. GOD,  YA HERE ME?? …. gave us, in His infinite wisdom, a recipe for Holy Oil.  That ought to be good enough reason for any Believer to try it.  And non-believers also, for God sends his life-giving  rains to both believers and doubters.  Give it a try. Don’t be Left Behind.
