Sword & Shield

Stand firm on this passage from God’s word as we do spiritual battle to recover and rebuild our nation and world, and defeat the evil that seeks to destroy us.

Psalm 146   (NASB)

Do not trust in princes,
In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
His spirit departs, he returns to the earth;
In that very day his thoughts perish.
How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Who made heaven and earth,
The sea and all that is in them;
Who keeps faith forever;

Prayer:

Lord, men and women today trust in the princes of this world, on television, on social media, princes who have them living in fear. There is no salvation from them, no life, no truth, no rest, only fear, anxiety and bondage. They are headed for the grave, but on the way they deceive billions. I pray you turn the hearts and eyes of the people to you, the source of life, the source of love. Crush the spirit of fear that grips the world. Replace it with settled faith in you, our hope, our help, our maker, the only one whom we should trust.

We engage in spiritual warfare by first consulting the scriptures to learn what God thinks about himself, about us, our situation, and his adversaries, and what he is doing today and is planning to do. We come into agreement with what God thinks, and his plan, and ask him to do battle on our behalf in the ways he has stated. These prayers are intended to change situations in our natural world, but they also change our hearts as we come to know the heart of God. As we pray together to defeat the forces of evil, we become a closer knit family of God, intent on accomplishing his purposes and living in Christian community. Please join in this spiritual battle by praying the scripture above, out loud, confident that God hears us and loves us, his children.

The prayer above is only a suggestion. Pray as you are led by the spirit. No need for eloquence as our Father simply loves to hear the voices of his children as we bare our hearts to him.

“His spirit departs, he returns to the earth;
In that very day his thoughts perish.”

I wish instead of “spirit” (soul?) it said “body”.

Because it sure seems that the author of that passage is saying that when we die, NOTHING is left of us …. not even our thoughts, which return to the earth and perish.

No heaven (or, hell) for you!

Jewish beliefs about the afterlife are all over the place — from annihilation to resurrection.

For example, the Jewish belief reflected by what Freed posted is quite different than beliefs after the Temple was destroyed in 70AD, the beginnings of Rabbinical Judaism. Indeed, the afterlife beliefs in Judaism reflects maybe a thousand years of evolutionary thoughts and beliefs.

Link below is an easy and fast read summarizing the history of afterlife theology in Judaism.

Who cares what Jews believe? Well, Jesus was a Jew (oh, yes, he was!) and he had quite a few things to say about the matter. So, should it not be of interest to you, Mr. or Mrs. Believer?

So the passage describes a state where the spirit/soul has ‘no thoughts’. In the passage Dan 12:2 it says ‘And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.’ We find in 1Th 4:16 ‘For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first’.

Psalm 146:3-6 KJB… “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:”

Just a reminder; He’ll be sending strong delusion soon and if you ain’t broken away from the course of this world by now, come then, you don’t stand a chance. Sorry… but He’s given us 2,000 years to figure it out.

Who’s this Jacob feller? That’s the guy whose name was changed to Israel.

Who receives the delusion?…. ‘because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie’. What if this is happening now ?
