Why Should We Not Rejoice?

Guest Post by Freed Radical

This is a non-fiction follow up to my story, Grandpa, Tell me about the War. Take a moment to read that if you have not already.

Every Friday you and I both look forward to… The Friday Fail! Heavens to Betsy! People sure do some stupid things. That’s the reason the birth rate is going down, all those skateboarders intersecting railings at ludicrous speed. And you and I sit there and laugh our collective arses off, at the misfortune of Internet dupes.

When we’re done with that – don’t deny it – we cruise over to People of Walmart and point and laugh until we hyperventilate.

Our mommas would scold us. Then turn and snicker quietly.

Psalm 97   (NASB)

10 Hate evil, you who love the Lord,
Who preserves the souls of His godly ones;
He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 Light is sown like seed for the righteous
And gladness for the upright in heart.
12 Be glad in the Lord, you righteous ones,
And give thanks to His holy name.

Grandpa, Tell Me about the War

Guest Post by Freed Radical

“Grandpa, tell me about the war. My friend said that ten dillon people died in it.”

“No, that’s not right. Dillon was a Marshall on TV. It’s billion, with a ‘B’. And it wasn’t ten billion, only seven and a half.”

“Ok, but I hate fractions! What happened? Why did all those people die?”

“Well it started a hundred years before the war, when the communists started corrupting our country through colleges, and radio, and books, and churches.”

“What’s a commun…”

“Don’t worry about that. They want to run other peoples’ lives. Not good. Anyway, I could talk for days about what caused the war, but I’ll skip ahead to the stuff that you’ll be interested in.”

Let the nations be judged before You.

More Dangerous than New Year’s Predictions

Guest Post by Freed Radical

It’s the end of the year, and here we go with all the prediction articles for next year. Some are interesting, some are wacky, but most predictions are predictable, and… yawn. At the end of, oh, 1999, one expert commentator was making predictions about 2000. He said that 2000 was going to be the year that rap discovered melody, and it would be revolutionized.

Still waiting. With my radio off.

Christmas Time Travel

Guest Post by Freed Radical

This is going to date me (no, not some modern self-courting ritual, but rather an act of exposing one’s age), but this music brings out deep Christmas memories. Perhaps for you it’s Handel’s Messiah, but for me it’s Christmas Time is Here.

Not only that, I was being exposed to the Gospel for the first time, by a cartoon character clutching a blanket. And in the only accurate Bible translation, the one the Apostle Paul used, the King James version! (Can I tee up a Christmas theological firestorm or what?)

According as we have hoped in You.

Positivity

Guest Post by Freed Radical

Reader feedback is important. For example, “Why all the negativity?” That’s a comment some readers have made regarding my articles. Let’s dig into that. What attitude should we realists have in this season of torture our nation is grinding through? (Ooops! Was that negative?)

In contrast to the deaf, dumb, and blind sheep you meet at the thinly stocked grocery these days, the readers here are shockingly realistic. It’s refreshing. Red is red, green is green, up is up, and so on. Pity the nation where basic facts of the universe seem “refreshing,” but that’s the way it is, and I know you feel the same way when you run into a person who sees things at face value. I have to suppress spontaneous hugging urges, particularly people with bare faces.

Do not trust in princes,
In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
His spirit departs, he returns to the earth;
In that very day his thoughts perish.
How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Who made heaven and earth,
The sea and all that is in them;
Who keeps faith forever;

The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes;

Acts of Rebellion

Guest Post by Freed Radical

Are you on our side? Which side is that, you ask? Our side, you know, the right side. The side that those people are not on. That side.

This is what we have devolved into in America, and worldwide. Some see it as a division between various views on various topics, as minor as potatoes vs. rice, but today I see it as a split between good and evil. Instantly I am demonized for calling the other side evil, and the rage flares.

Regardless how you characterize the issues, and exactly where you place the border, you, dear reader, are probably here, reading this article, because you have more of a conservative or libertarian bent. And I love you for it, because we have to stick together. But sticking together is one thing the other side despises in us, particularly since we are sticking together not because of something superficial, like skin color, or because our fathers were in the union, or because that’s the way we have always voted. We stick together out of principle, which is something the other side simply cannot comprehend.

The Child Molesters

Guest Post by Freed Radical

When I was in seventh grade, the school showed us a film entitled The Child Molesters. I had no idea what a molester was, and they did not tell us beforehand, but only turned the lights off and started this film. We did not care and were happy to skip a class. It became clear in short order that we were being warned about kidnappers, which my parents and grandparents had done many times before.

An online search for the film I saw way back then was fruitless, but I did find a similar film from the 1950’s. Perhaps you saw something like this when you were young.
