A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

John Denver – Rocky Mountain High
Listened to the John Denver concert, but didn’t hear this one, or I accidentally skipped over it – my favorite of his, because it makes me think of my son, and I like to play it obnoxiously whenever we enter Colorado and Rocky Mountain park.
The next one comes to us thanks to Diogenese
The Lark Ascending
Vaughn Williams Lark Ascending , gives me goosebumps.
The next three come to us thanks to Leah.

Strauss ~ The Blue Danube Waltz
I’m going to start this week a bit differently.
This piece combines the beautiful waltz – “The Blue Danube,” and combines it with very good pieces of artwork. The Blue Danube Waltz is a classic composition by Johann Strauss II in 1866.
Originally performed on 15 February 1867 at a concert of the Wiener Mannergersang-Verein (Vienna Men’s Choral Association), it has been one of the most consistently popular pieces of music in the classical repertoire. Its initial performance was considered only a mild success, however, and Strauss is reputed to have said, “The devil take the waltz, my only regret is for the coda – I wish that had been a success!”
Johannes Brahms – Hungarian Dances No. 5 & 6
I’ll follow that with Johannes Brahms “Hungarian Dances No. 5 &6. It is from the Special Winners Concert of 3rd Polish Nationwide Music Schools’ Symphonic Orchestras Competition. Audition Award – Polish Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bytom.
Maciej Tomasiewicz – conductor.
Camille Saint-Saën – Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah
I’ll close with a piece by the French composer, organist, conductor and pianist Charles-Camille Saint-Saens. This piece is from his opera titled “Samson and Delilah.”
Again, this is the Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bytom, Poland with Maciej Tomasiewicz conducting.
Have a great Sunday.
Edvard Grieg – Peer Gynt Suite No 1. – Han-Na Chang
Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor Han-Na Chang, performing Edvard Grieg Peer Gynt suite No.1 in Seoul Arts Center, November 2019.
00:30 – 1. Morning Mood
04:55 – 2. The Death of Aase
10:45 – 3. Anitra’s Dance
14:10 – 4. In the Hall of the Mountain King
The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.
Heaven help us…

As a well known General remarked: “I shall return”
(Came across this recently. Powerful.)
SeeBee,
Many thanks for that.
We’ll use it and credit you for it on May first.
“talked to God and listened to the casual replyyyyyyyyyyyy…”
Thanks, Dani. Great contribution / submittal.
That line in that song really gets to me. Tears EVERY. TIME.
This well known and moving piece is produced by two performances, and is enhanced here by having the author of the piece still alive and describing the writing of the piece. The choir is particularly beautiful!
The lady conducting with Hauser is a gem.
Hauser.
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the fabulous venue.
The gentleman that wrote the music.
nice additions, UD.
Nice. Love Scarborough Fair. Will listen to the rest throughout the day.
Beethoven’s Choral fantasy by Singapore Symphony. GREAT performance of the Famous piece.
The concert hall is something to behold! Piano artistry is superb, and the conductor is great also!
Thanks ursel.
We’ll use your selections on May first and credit you for them.
Keep them coming.
Thank you! Bacchanale floored me. Wow.
Speaking of Strauss, can I submit Overture to the Operetta Die Fledermaus? It’s pretty popular so it may have already been submitted at some point (I’m coming way late to this party), but if it hasn’t it’s a personal favorite. Here’s a link to a performance in Vienna by the Vienna Philharmonic.

It’s such a treat to listen to this and see the expressions on their faces while they are playing. I’m No one to say if you are late or not. Thank you for sharing! It was an enjoyable listen.
