Mattias Desmet is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at Ghent University in Belgium. His theory of mass formation during the coronavirus crisis has become widely known and widely misunderstood since gaining mainstream attention.
He joins James Corbett to discuss his new book, The Psychology of Totalitarianism, which lays out what mass formation is, how it develops, how it leads to totalitarianism, and what we must do to change the conditions that makes these mass formation events possible.

Lesson One: Stop Listening to Psychologists

The age of experts is over.
Over the last 2.5 years we learned that the generalists were right about virtually everything while the experts were wrong about everything.
That cannot have gone unnoticed.
Sure it can.
You knew already (before the last 2.5 yrs). I knew. We here knew. Some others knew.
A very small percentage of the population has become aware in the last 2.5 yrs.
Everyone else still doesn’t notice.
Doublethink. A little goes a long way.
Only 10% of humanity can think abstractly.
So about 10% of us never fell for any of Bat Soup Virus.
We also see all the other lies constantly fed to us, and
why it is so difficult to convince others of what we see
and intuit. The just can’t “wrap their minds” around
things that aren’t readily seen or not easily understood.
It isn’t IQ or learnedness. It’s a trait like blue eyes to
be able to think readily in the abstract.
10% for the big guy then, it’s the only logical conclusion. YEARS looking for the sense of it all. God.
Except for Desmet. He is in a league by himself and describes exactly what is going on.

So, what is this “mass formation” thingy? A bunch of Catholics doing their Catholic thingy?
Stuckman. This is the best one-hour video BP ever had, and yes there have been many excellent ones including ones posted by you. He hits it 100%.
I’m not going to listen butif as usual he puts most of the blame on objects (phones, social media etc) instead of propaganda he’s an expert (derogatory).
Now facts and information are wrapped up in propaganda. Beware.
Pandemic fake, Covid real, take 50 vitamins and obsess on health for example. Oh yes and hate the ‘other’.
Desmet didn’t invent the concepts of mass hysteria/mass psychosis. He hypothesized 4 criteria that enable it.
His list did not include multiple decades of a steady diet of propaganda from an entirely controlled media, multiple decades of intentional dumbing-down in compulsory government run schooling, or the intent of a small elite to bring these about as a mere portion of an overall plan of controlled demolition of society.
With the 4 things Desmet lists, society can work its way out of mass hysteria/psychosis. When the things I mentioned are ultimately behind the “mass formation” (i.e., when the “formation” is intentional), it only ends one way. The same way as runaway hyperinflation. Which is, everything gets worse until the entire system collapses and needs to be replaced.
Bad enough when it is merely one nation’s monetary system. When it encompasses everything about a society … shit will get ugly.
He describes what is going on perfectly. I knew 100% there was a mass hypnosis/psychosis going one week after covid started. It’s good to hear the confirmation. Some people always find the truth no matter what it is. But the damage is done, and how do we fix it?
My question was answered at minute 39. It destroys itself. I related this to just like a lie destroys itself. Can’t wait to see that.
I can honestly say that Mattias Desmet’s viewpoints when I first came across him some time in late 2020 or early 2021 really helped me understand what was going on, since I could not understand the seemingly irrational behavior of people who appeared to be rather intelligent. His explanation makes a lot of sense and helped me deal with my own feeling of helplessness to “wake people up”. I learned that I could not, not matter what I did, which made life more peaceful.
This interview was a very good summary. One aspect was new to me when he mentioned the characteristic of mass formation that those people view it as their moral and ethical duty to exterminate the people who are perceived as outsiders and traitors of the cult.
He says at minute 40 or so that every time you speak out and speak the truth from your heart, you become a little bit stronger, a little bit more human. I felt like that every time I was a little bit scared to go into a store without a mask when I did not know if anyone would call the cops or kick me out or something. And then, every time I got back into my car, either after a verbal exchange or even after nothing happened, I felt like I had won a battle. At least I was true to myself and did not bend. In some ways, grocery shopping is more boring now…
He is definitely the voice of sanity in an insane world.
He quotes from the Talmud in a positive way and is frustratingly vague. I don’t trust the guy but I would be willing to give his book a read when it is released in English (and free).
