SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Borodin – Prince Igor, Polovtsian Dances

Conducted by Sylwia Anna Janiak

THE most looked forward to delightful enjoyment every Sunday, Sir.

A famous piece, to share.

Piazzolla: Tangazo

Today, we’ll hear the music of Astor Piazzolla.

Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla was an Argentine tango composer, bandoneon player, and arranger. His works revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed nuevo tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music. A virtuoso bandoneonist, he regularly performed his own compositions with a variety of ensembles.

In 1992, American music critic Stephen Holden described Piazzolla as “the world’s foremost composer of Tango music.”

He also composed and played classical pieces on which we’ll focus today.

The first piece is titled “Tangazo – Variations on Buenos Aires. It is performed by the Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andres Orozco-Estrada.

Astor Piazzolla – Oblivion, Alicja Matuszczyk – oboe

We’ll follow that with a short piece by Piazzolla titled “Oblivion.” This piece features Alicja Matuszczyk on oboe, and Andrzej Kucybała conducting the Stanisław Moniuszko School of Music Orchestra in Bielsko Biała, Poland.
Recorded at Stanisław Moniuszko School of Music Concert February 24, 2017.

Piazzolla: Sinfonietta

We’ll close this out with Piazzolla’s “Sinfonietta.”

I. Dramatico
II. Sombrío
III. Jubiloso

Again, Andres Orozco-Estrada conducts the Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra.

Have a fantastic Sunday!

Schubert: Symphony No. 8, Unfinished

Unfinished and yet the most famous: Symphony in B minor “Unfinished” by Franz Schubert performed by the Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFO) conducted by Iván Fischer.

The concert took place on February 28, 2014 at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest.

(00:00) I. Allegro moderato
(15:00) II. Andante con moto

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.

Heaven help us…

Here’s some classical ….. classic Rock, that is. I believe this is allowed from time to time?

Emerson Lake & Palmer are rarely mentioned in anyone’s great or favorite list ….. even though their album Tarkus is one of the best of all time, IMO.

.
Keith Emerson knew of Rachel Flowers …. blind girl who was born 15 weeks premature. Here is Rachel now … playing a condensed version of Tarkus ….. get your groove on, man and let her blow your mind.

I think Steve et al should change the title of the weekly offering to something more enticing to those of the gloom and doom ilk.

Perhaps “Performing the Classics while TBP Fans Flames” or something similarly snazzy with a slight hint of panic.

Which most of us should be feeling about now.

What can anyone tell me about the Russian celebration of the Red Sails?

I told Admin in an email I’d send TBP fifty bucks for a post about this really interesting tradition Russia started in 1968. From the various videos I’ve watched, Russia is closer to America in the 1950s, with national pride and promotion of family a high priority.

Oh, and Andrei has a really intriguing assessment of what is happening here and there and everywhere.

According to Andrei, there really is no way we could prevent or defend against a first strike with Russia’s hypersonic missiles.

Putin is not going to allow Western Perversion to become a contagion in Mother Russia.

He could shut the whole nonsense down (D.C.) with conventional weapons. No nukes required.

Just a thought.

Thirty years ago I wrote my first short story, “The Unfinished Composer,” around the “Unfinished Symphony,” one of my favorite pieces of music. You’re prompting me to go dig that story up. Thanks. In thirty years you accumulate mountains of material to dig through; it may take awhile.
