A new study published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics found that the number of children and adolescents diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the United States has risen to 1 in 30.
The study, which was conducted by public health researchers at Guandong Pharmaceutical University in China, looked at data from the annual National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) maintained by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
It estimated there was a 52 percent increase in ASD diagnoses among children and adolescents in the U.S. during 2017-2020.
Using data from the NHIS, 2.46 percent of children and adolescents in the U.S. were diagnosed with ASD.
By 2016, this had increased to 2.76 percent, then it declined to 2.29 percent in 2017. As of 2020, the number was up noticeably to 3.49 percent.
The 1 in 30 figure also represents a marked increase when compared to last year’s CDC estimate of 1 in 44 American children with ASD. However, that analysis published by the CDC in November 2021, was limited to data in 2018 from about a dozen states in the U.S. and only focused on eight-year-old children, so the study published in JAMA Pediatrics would appear to be more comprehensive, more current and, consequently, more accurate.
The study in JAMA Pediatrics did not comment on what may be causing the continuing rise in ASD diagnoses, but there has been much speculation that the trend may largely be attributed to greater public awareness of the disorder and also changes in diagnostic criteria.
Genetics has also occasionally been brought up as a possible contributing factor.
There is another belief, though, that the autism epidemic is real and that it may indeed be biological and tied to environmental exposure factors.

[I]mproved diagnosis alone cannot explain this trend. One in 30 children and adolescents were not autistic in the 1980s, with or without diagnosis. No, something is going on. One or more environmental factors are clearly having a devastating impact on our children.
Glyphosate appears to be a leading contributor to autism. Other contributing factors include maternal antibodies associated with autoimmune diseases, maternal immune system overactivation and mitochondrial dysfunction (typically involving electron transport chain overactivity). Mitochondrial abnormalities are suspected of being involved in as many as 80% of cases.”

But again, the study in JAMA Pediatrics does not address the issue of causality as it relates to ASD, it focuses on prevalence of the disorder and breaking it down by factors such as gender and family income.

New parents: Do not let any doctor stick a needle in your kid until he walks, talks, laughs, plays, forms opinions and gets angry and experiences sadness. Be worried if your new baby is too quiet.

Back in my day (graduated high school in 1970) —
— there was a “special needs” class …. it had less than 10 students, in a high school of over 1,000
— there were MAYBE half a dozen fat kids
— I personally knew of only 2 kids from divorced homes
— autism was unknown
— and “the bad kids crowd” were those who wore jeans to school and chewed gum in class
WTF went wrong?
I believe it all start happening when they started giving multiple vaccines at once. I think the major cause was giving the MMR vaccine all at once. Now they do more than that at once.
I have no doubt circumcision would be outlawed if it were allowed to be studied in a developmental neuroscience context. Trauma like that is going to cause problems in >0.
But it is probably everything mentioned here contributing to varying degrees.
Great granddaughters got 5 separate shots for their first birthday. I consider that to be cruelty to children.
I grew up in the 60’s/70’s and they gave all those MMR (and not as many other) vaccines separately and months or years apart. I have no idea what the freakin rush is now that they have to give them 5 at once. That is cruelty to children. I think it’s all about the money.
grade school – one retarded kid out of 425.
Jr high – one kid with crutches and a huge head out of 520
Sr high – not one kid with an identified serious ailment out of 645
I spoke with a teacher friend a couple of years ago and she told me that her school (grade school) has 17 kids with major lifelong physical or mental issues. The school has less than 300 students.
Something has gone very wrong.
The food supply has been ruined by chemicals and big agra, and kids today get far more vaccines in close proximity than those of us in the 70s who only got measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations. FFS the person in NY this week who turned up with polio has been shown to have been a Ukrainian refugee who’s polio was caused by a polio vaccine.
After the covid vax BS, I don’t think I’ll ever consider taking any vax, or pharmaceutical drug for that matter, without copious amounts of research. I no longer trust my doctor, or any other health professional to provide me with good advice regarding my health, drugs or vaccinations.
The increase in autism coincides with the widespread and common use of microwave ovens.
Nuking food in complex plastics produces compounds never seen before.
I use a microwave only with ceramics.

Vaccines – they jab the kids with so much crap it’s unreal. To enter 7th grade, I was sent a list of shots – TDAP booster, HPV vax, Meningitis vax, and a recommendation for the COVID jab.
My family declined, but most kids take them. That’s on top of annul flu shots and anywhere from 10 to 45 vaccines from 0 – 5 depending on your state and inclination.
Didn’t see the words Amish or Pennsylvania Dutch mentioned in that article.

Hardly anyone was autistic until autism got fashionable. Now a lot more kids are autistic, go figure.
It’s a ploy that doctors use because they get a cut for prescribing psychotropic drugs from big pharma. It’s been happening for years now. If the kid won’t sit still, drug his little ass. Dose anyone remember Ritalin from their youth.
Friends of ours have a severely autistic and intellectually impaired child, the kind that is barely able to speak and will never live independently. The other day, we were invited to the child’s birthday party, and there were 4 other families with children who were his schoolmates at the school with the short buses. All 4 classmates were also severely autistic. It was noteworthy that in ALL of these families, it was only the oldest child that was affected. They had between 1 and 3 younger siblings, all of which appeared normal.
Something must have happened to the oldest sibling versus the younger siblings. My suspicion is that it was the vaccines: that the parents held off getting them for the younger siblings after they saw what happens to the oldest one. Another possibility could be nutritional (cutting out food dyes, gluten, antibiotics, increasing vitamin and organic food intake). I did not know these families well enough to ask. If autism had a genetic origin, it should be either random siblings affected, or a predominance of the younger ones (since the age of the mother would be higher in later pregnancies).
Andrea Lalama. This lady and mother did a lot of research on autism and it’s causes. One of the causes from what I remember was human microbiome damage from GMO’s and pesticides and a lack of fiber for the gut bacteria to grow in.
Obviously there’s a ton of contributing factors interacting with each other. We live in a toxic world on every level. But you mention any one of them and all the sudden you’re a flat earther.
During part of my MS healing journey I followed a chelation protocol (with ALA) to clear out heavy metals. It seems when mercury and aluminum pass the blood-brain barrier they tend to upset the delicate porphyrin-zinc balance within the myelin sheath, disrupting the brain’s electro-connectivity.
Chelation worked btw, but in my research I also stumbled on a lot of clinical success stories where holistic practitioners reversed severe autism using chelation…kids who never spoke a word gradually started making eye contact and gesturing before grunting and even talking. Amazing. But do your research if you want to try it, there’s major hazards if you don’t time dosage and administration properly.
