Why Equality of Outcome is a Bad Idea
In the days leading up to the 2020 US Election, Kamala Harris released a video dubbed Equality v Equity…
She then adds that “equitable treatment means we all end up at the same place”. This renders “compete on equal footing” redundant. It’s hardly a competition if everybody ends up at the same place – it’s a form of Marxism.
Here’s why it is flawed.
– Equality of outcome is unnatural
Human beings didn’t artificially create hierarchies – they are in fact a feature of nature common to all mammals, birds, fish and insects.
– Equality of outcome disincentivizes hard work and incentivizes slacking
If we are all going to end up in the same place, then why should I work any harder than you?
– Equality of outcome promotes authoritarianism
As Karl Marx noted in Das Kapital, the ‘ruling class’ will never relinquish its power voluntarily, and so force or coercion is necessary – the dictatorship of the proletariat.
Given that equality of outcome is inherently unnatural, forced interventions are required to put everyone in the same place. This effectively amounts to authoritarianism whereby a central body ultimately plays God at the expense of people’s own free will and agency.
– Equality of outcome eliminates personal responsibility
Suggesting that all people not being in the same place is a result of systemic problems creates and perpetuates a victimhood narrative, and takes the spotlight off one’s own actions.
– Equality of outcome destroys our freedoms
As Naval Ravikant put it in a recent tweet, “Free people make free choices. Free choices mean you get unequal outcomes. You can have freedom, or you can have equal outcomes. You can’t have both.”

You must admit this sounds very appealing to those who are

You will own nothing and be happy! This is the central aspect of the Jewish kingdom gospel. The vast majority of denominational churches are headed in this direction and they’re bringing the thoughtless with them.
If you believe today’s church began in Acts chapter two, this is your default position, like it or not.
The church, the body of Christ began with Paul in Acts chapter nine and has nothing to do with the kingdom promised to Israel, to which the Gentiles will be subservient.

Anyway, the nonsense that spews is so easy to dispel that only an intellectual or a politician or someone who’s paycheck depends on them ignoring logic could believe it. “Everyone has the same capacity.”
At everything? We are all equal to Bach at composing music and Tiger Woods at golf and Christopher Wren in architecture and everyone gets the point. In a standard distribution of any skill one can easily establish a median level (average is much more difficult.) The best at any skill are many ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE better than that. Nesting Pareto distributions show up in every imaginable skill. The easiest to conceptualize is playing Quarterback….there are at any given time 3-6 great ones (at the NFL level) and maybe another 12-15 adequate qbs. The rest, as any armchair sports enthusiast will tell you, suck terribly. Think about that…you could literally be on the top 25 in the WORLD at this particular skill and still be so far behind the very best that you are considered to “suck.”
As another aside, I can make a solid argument for the singular most talented person in the world. This MUST be a person that is very-well known. Hint: Literally everyone would rank him as the very best at what he does and probably no one could even name a candidate for second place. Who is it?
And, of course, thetruthonly nails it. This, like all Marxism, is aimed at making resentment a virtue and celebrating everyone’s deficiencies as being just the inherent unfairness of existence. That unfairness exists, so that gets the masses in the door for the inevitable train-ride to hell.

But this is a way for them to promise one thing and deliver something far worse, like a boot on the neck forever.

Including about Harrison Bergeron types preferring rage-righteous self-martyrdom to effective action, to the symboleering of blowing up the Old Bailey – or a “ballet” audience – to effective action, of just so much more “look at me” posing.
Words (symbols) invade & commandeer brains, then are conflated as being interchangeable “equality” of/with/to outcome/quity.
Action’s a different language entirely, & so it is word-language parasitism’s host.
