A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.
This Weeks Feature Comes To Us Thanks To ursel doran (again)
Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto no.1 – Maestro Mehta’s 80th birthday – Khatia Buniatishvili
Tchaikovsky Concerto No. 1 – Famous old classic, very well done.
This One Comes To Us Thanks To Anonymous.
Bugs Rules
Did have the time to watch the eastern overture, fairly short. Swear i at least heard snippets, somewhere, before. And, the Maestro appeared somewhat disheveled at the end of the score. He should have apprenticed under the master…THAT music may warrant its own “Sunday Morning Classics”.
The Following Three Come To Us Thanks To ursel doran.
Le Concert de Paris Khatia Buniatishvili
Here are four submittals that may have some duplication of prior works, but after seeing the one of her gorgeousness floating in the water I could not help picking up a couple more of her marvelous works.
Those so inclined can find other really beautiful Le Concert de Paris pieces. Venue and camera work are great.

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.
Heaven help us…
Thanks for this collection of wonderful recordings. I’m always partial to full orchestral overtures.
Regarding the Bugs Bunny conductor bit: As a kid, I always wondered why Bugs Bunny was out of character and so damn serious in that musical short. And, just WHY were the orchestra members so afraid of this LEOPOLD character who Bugs was apparently impersonating?
Leopold Stokowski, famous for his appearance and work in Disney’s FANTASIA (the original), is who Bugs is supposed to be imitating in this wonderful musical send-up.
Stokowski, from my understanding, was a very stressful conductor to work under. His reputation was of a perfectionist, from what I gather. Think Todd Rundgren (without his personal politics) or Miles Davis as band leaders for more “modern” reference to tyrannical band leaders as a corollary to how Leopold Stokowski was perceived by the orchestra he conducted.
Great job today, men.
Particularly the ones that can be shown to youngsters, as examples of encouragement and discovery of some of life’s finer talents and skills to pique interest.
Bravo.
Thanks as always SMC.
We do our best…
SUPERB work as usual gentlemen!! Making Sunday musically spiritual!
How about some Brahms?
Brahms piano concerto # 1
Brahms Piano concerto #2
Good morning gentlemen, thank you for another fine round of music. Thought I would share a little diddy I ran across on youtube. This group has proved to be a real gem. There is a surprise or two woven into the last parts of their Orange Blossom Special. Enjoy!
Blue grass blending tradition with Mozart & Rossini, with talent, scenery backdrop and play-ful fun. I like their unexpected choices.
Thx, Pogrom.
Good one Pogrom. I really like it.
We’ll use it on October 30th and credit you for it.
Pogrom- We listen to Southern Born all the time. Most excellent.
Thanks ursel.
We’ll use them both on October 30th.
Bugs Bunny in character as the intense conductor from Disney’s FANTASIA: Leopold Stokowski.
(As a kid, I had no idea who “Leopold” was.)
I know, right?
I didn’t realize it as a child way back then, but,
Those classic cartoons weren’t created just for toddlers & little kids.
I mean, did the kids really understand, when Bugs mockingly call Yosemite Sam a maroon?
Here’s a toast to Mel Blanc, the very talented voice behind many of the Looney Tunes characters.
Cheers!
I second your toast to the man of a thousand voices: Mel Blanc.
Salut!
Mel Blanc’s regular appearances on Jack Benny’s live studio program must have been a hoot to see in person. Your toast prompted me to watch Jack and Mel do their classic “Si, Cy, So” routine, with Jack barely able to keep a straight face. Mel’s delivery was always comic to the core.
From my grasp of the zeitgeist of the time (and I’ve always been one to befriend people a decade older than myself,) many of those early cartoons were never intended for juvenile audiences. They were shown before the main movie feature, along with newsreels and other “Buy War Bonds!” proper-gander.
One “Merrie Melodies” short, “WHAT’S OPERA, DOC? (1957, directed by Chuck Jones, with Bugs in drag as Brunhilde, of course; and Mel Blanc, on the audio track, singing a duet with himself)” [a full copy can be viewed on Vimeo] has Bugs Bunny
Plz. post a link to the Blanc – Benny exchange, if available.
TIA.
-clink!-
“Si, Sy, Sue, Sew” with cancion!
Jack Benny & Mel Blanc “Si, Sy, Sue”
“Jack Benny viejo barato… old cheapskate!”
Jack Benny & Mel Blanc “Si, Sy, Sue”
An early performance, if not the first, of Mel Blanc and Jack Benny performing their “Si, Sy, Sew, Sue” sketch:

A later performance of the same skit, with minor variations. Jack seemed to always genuinely get a chuckle out of this skit, despite having performed it so often.

I’m not so good at embedding vids… or, I’m simply denied that simple resource. Not for lack of trying on my part… and I’m not totally inept… technically speaking. My replies to this request have all disappeared when any embedded link has been included.
I’m also not proud. I’m a lifelong student. I’d be happy to post the two versions of this skit that I have in my YT queue. I found them doing a simple search on YT for “Jack Benny Mel Blanc” and found them in the top five results.
To embed a video — search for the video title — click on that title and open it in a browser window … and then select and copy the web address (the URL) and paste it into your comment …
So … here’s a link for ‘Jack Benny Mel Blanc’ …
Thank you, AA.
No dice for me. Tried multiple ways to post another version. Maybe another time. As I mentioned, I’ve tried many different embed and paste options, but my posts always disappear. C’est la vie.
Musta been tryin’ ta help same time as AA. Copy Not embed.
Thanks for the help. I’ve tried all the different ways, still not happening. I’ll just try again on another thread in the future. Thanks for all the kind offers of support and guidance from all.
Ooze the other one,
If i may. Can Relate. Find vid ya want. Play or Not, doesn’t matter. 2 finger click for me. menu pops, select “Copy Video URL” other options available. Things happen, disappearing wise occasionally.
Come ‘Here’ Paste. Before or after, in the middle of your text. Occasionally, ‘Link’ sometimes expands, covers part of Your text, not a ‘puter person. Either.
Just started playin’ with imageflip© again after many years, learning curve there as well. Pics i did yrs. ago still there.
First ‘hit’ your terms.
“Never give up, never surrender”, to coin a phrase.
Thank you very much the youngsters brought on the facial humidity!
Much appreciated.
Great selections from the mafia, as usual!
Does anyone out there like these?
1) The Mongolian state morin khuur ensemble plays jingiin tsuvaa:
2) In Praise of Genghis Khan, performed by Khusugtun:
3) Tsagaan Saaral Mori (White Horse) · SEDAA
an acquired taste in different music, for sure.
The women in the 1st video are beautiful.
These guys are where it is at when it comes to Mongols being awesome!
Interesting Pogrom, but we can’t really use this one…
Pretty cool, lyrics.
An interesting collection there Sen. Cornynholio.
I really don’t think they fit us very well, but we’ll use them all on October the 30th and credit you for them.
As Always, Than You. Particularly soulful “a vocal version of Agnus Dei”
Cry. For The Children. One especially.
I would like to see Khatia do Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto. The link:
We will feature it on October 30th and credit you for it.
Many thanks Robert.
Thank you once again. Still listening to this week’s songs. Love them. Barber once again brings waterworks. They are somewhat neutralized by Bugs. Always a treat to see and hear the selections See you next week.
Glad to see you still watching, Leah…thanks..
