Ukraine war tolls death knell for NATO

Guest Post by

President Vladimir Putin addressed an expanded meeting of the Russian Defence Ministry Board, Moscow, Dec. 21, 2022

The defining moment in US President Joe Biden’s press conference at the White House last Wednesday, during President Zelensky’s visit, was his virtual admission that he is constrained in the proxy war in Ukraine, as European allies don’t want a war with Russia.

To quote Biden, “Now, you say, ‘Why don’t we just give Ukraine everything there is to give?’  Well, for two reasons. One, there’s an entire Alliance that is critical to stay with Ukraine.  And the idea that we would give Ukraine material that is fundamentally different than is already going there would have a prospect of breaking up NATO and breaking up the European Union and the rest of the world… I’ve spent several hundred hours face-to-face with our European allies and the heads of state of those countries, and making the case as to why it was overwhelmingly in their interest that they continue to support Ukraine… They understand it fully, but they’re not looking to go to war with Russia.  They’re not looking for a third World War.”

Biden realised at that point that “I probably already said too much” and abruptly ended the press conference. He probably forgot that he was dwelling on the fragility of Western unity.

The whole point is that the western commentariat largely forgets  that Russia’s core agenda is not about territorial conquest — much as Ukraine is vital to Russian interests —  but about NATO expansion. And that has not changed.

Every now and then President Putin revisits the fundamental theme that the US consistently aimed to weaken and dismember Russia. As recently as last Wednesday, Putin invoked the Chechen war in the 1990s — “the use of international terrorists in the Caucasus, to finish off Russia and to split the Russian Federation… They [US]  claimed to condemn al-Qaeda and other criminals, yet they considered using them on the territory of Russia as acceptable and provided all kinds of assistance to them, including material, information, political and any other support, notably military support, to encourage them to continue fighting against Russia.”

Putin has a phenomenal memory and would have been alluding to Biden’s careful choice of William Burns as his CIA chief. Burns was Moscow Embassy’s point person for Chechnya in the 1990s! Putin has now ordered a nation-wide campaign to root out the vast tentacles that the US intelligence planted on Russian soil for internal subversion. Carnegie, once headed by Burns, has since shut down its Moscow office,  and the Russian staff fled to the West!

The leitmotif of the expanded meeting of the Board of the Defence Ministry in Moscow on Wednesday, which Putin addressed, was the profound reality that Russia’s confrontation with the US is not going to end with Ukraine war. Putin exhorted the Russian top brass to “carefully analyse” the lessons of Ukraine and Syrian conflicts.

Importantly, Putin said, “We will continue maintaining and improving the combat readiness of the nuclear triad. It is the main guarantee that our sovereignty and territorial integrity, strategic parity and the general balance of forces in the world are preserved. This year, the level of modern armaments in the strategic nuclear forces has already exceeded 91 percent. We continue rearming the regiments of our strategic missile forces with modern missile systems with Avangard hypersonic warheads.”

Equally, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu proposed at Wednesday’s meeting a military build-up “to bolster Russia’s security,” including:

  • Creation of a corresponding group of forces in Russia’s northwest to counter Finland and Sweden’s induction as NATO members;
  • Creation of two new motorised infantry divisions in the Kherson and Zaporozhya regions, as well as an army corps in Karelia, facing Finnish border;
  • Upgrade of 7 motorised infantry brigades into motorised infantry divisions in the Western, Central and Eastern military districts, and in the Northern Fleet;
  • Addition of two more air assault divisions in the Airborne Forces;
  • Provision of a composite aviation division and an army aviation brigade with 80-100 combat helicopters within each combined arms (tank) army;
  • Creation of 3 additional air division commands, eight bomber aviation regiments, one fighter aviation regiment, and six army aviation brigades;
  • Creation of 5 district artillery divisions, as well as super-heavy artillery brigades for building artillery reserves along the so-called strategic axis;
  • Creation of 5 naval infantry brigades for the Navy’s coastal troops  based on the existing naval infantry brigades;
  • Increase in the size of the Armed Forces to 1.5 million service personnel, with 695,000 people serving under contract.

Putin summed up: “We will not repeat the mistakes of the past… We are not going to militarise our country or militarise the economy… and we will not do things we do not really need, to the detriment of our people and the economy, the social sphere. We will improve the Russian Armed Forces and the entire military component. We will do it calmly, routinely and consistently, without haste.”

If the neocons in the driving seat in the Beltway wanted an arms race, they have it now. The paradox, however, is that this is going to be different from the bipolar Cold War era arms race.

If the US intention was to weaken Russia before confronting China, things aren’t working that way. Instead, the US is getting locked into a confrontation with Russia and the ties between the two big powers are at a breaking point. Russia expects the US to roll back NATO’s expansion, as promised to the Soviet leadership in 1989.

The neocons had expected a “win-win” in Ukraine: Russian defeat and a disgraceful end to Putin presidency; a weakened Russia, as in the 1990s, groping for a new start; consolidation of western unity under a triumphant America; a massive boost in the upcoming struggle with China for supremacy in the world order; and a New American Century under the “rules-based world order”.

But instead, this is turning out to be a classic Zugzwang in  the endgame — to borrow from German chess literature — where the US is under obligation to make a move on Ukraine but whichever move it makes will only worsen its geopolitical position.

Biden has understood that Russia cannot be defeated in Ukraine; nor are Russian people in any mood for an insurrection. Putin’s popularity is soaring high, as Russian objectives in Ukraine are being steadily realised. Thus, Biden is getting a vague sense, perhaps, that Russia isn’t exactly seeing things in Ukraine as a binary of victory and defeat, but is gearing up for the long haul to sort out NATO once and for all.

The transformation of Belarus as a “nuclear-capable” state carries a profound message from Moscow to Brussels and Washington. Biden cannot miss it. (See my blog NATO nuclear compass rendered unavailing, Indian Punchline, Dec. 21, 2022

Logically, the option open to the US at this point would be to disengage. But that becomes an abject admission of defeat and will mean the death knell for the NATO, and Washington’s transatlantic leadership goes kaput. And, worse still, major west European powers — Germany, France and Italy — may start looking for a modus vivendi with Russia. Above all, how can NATO possibly survive without an “enemy”?

Clearly, neither the US nor its allies are in a position to fight a continental war. But even if they are, what about the emerging scenario in the Asia-Pacific, where the “no limits” partnership between China and Russia has added an intriguing layer in the geopolitics?

The neocons in the Beltway have bitten more than what they could chew. Their last card will be to push for a direct US military intervention in the Ukraine war under the banner of a “coalition of the willing.”

If one were cyncical enough they might look at the last year as an effort of the Globalists not to undermine Russia and defeat it, but rather as a means to get them to rebuild their military forces to levels not seen since WWII. Ditto the Western powers. Perhaps, rather than an actual war in Ukraine where no one has eyes to see what is actually unfolding, this may have been a means of those who frequent the WEF conferences to build a force capable of defeating internal resistance of the people being crushed under the totalitarian pratices world-wide. Ditto the “conflict” with China. Covid, for all it’s byzantine intrigues looks in the rear-view mirror to be a lot more like a well co-ordinated Sino-American Psy-Ops than a divisive era.

Putin and Xi are Trumpian characters, portrayed as something for the people to focus their frustrations and anxieties upon, while in reality they are simply facilitating the machinations of the Shadow Governments. How difficult is it to consider that they are simply playing roles that benefit the elite who sit at the top of the proverbial pyramid of human societies? And how is it that all of these mortal enemies still continue to do business, and move resources and vast sums of money between one another in the midst of what is constantly billed as an impending WWIII? How does one account for such a disconnect rationally?

Let’s put it all out on the table and admit one thing; there are no governments left on Earth that actually represent or care for the people who live in the countries they administer. There is only a steadily encroaching despotism that reaches into every level of human life, every institution and establishment. Governments exist for the benefit of those who manage them and inhabit the halls of Power. What we have witnessed over the past decades, and especially these last three years, is the curtain at the back of the room being pulled back to show the brick wall, to paraphrase Zappa. You’ll own nothing and be happy isn’t just a quote from Klaus Schwab and his minions, it is the playbook of every single bureaucracy ever established, at every level down to the local villages and towns.

Climate change isn’t just the weather, it’s how humans control the eco-sphere on the personal level. We are at the wildfire stage of civilization, where a single spark will take out thousands of years of old growth and leave nothing behind but smoldering ashes and empty space.

Prepare ye.

Cynical? No, HSF, anyone who has their third eye open can readily see that this is exactly what they are doing. Putin is a WEF World Leader graduate as are several other of the more tyrannical world “leaders”. This whole “WWIII” dance is just a shell game. 3 card Monte in which they have already taken our money and are now playing with our freedom. Sad part is, the vast majority have no clue we are even in play.

Stay aware and be prepared.

where a single spark will take out thousands of years of old growth and leave nothing behind but smoldering ashes and empty space.

While this may appear to be a bleak and frightful scenario it does have benefits. Take the old growth forest which in reality is quite fragile. There is virtually little under growth most being just small brush type. No young saplings to replace the old giants.

A fire adds in new life, new growth, change. A fire wipes out all the choking brush, weeds and floor mats that hinder new growth. Fire burns leaving ashes… fertilizer, for the next biosphere to take over and flourish in. Some conifers require a fire to open cones for reseeding too.

If left to its own the forest will make a return to generally a mixed environment that sorts itself out into a more homogenous one as time passes. If man gets in there to work the land then its a blank canvas ready to accept paint. How he interacts with that land can either benefit all or become parasitic and end up harming both land and man.

I see the coming fire as a good thing, not to be feared, but welcomed. Wheres that spark now.

“US strategic aviation with nuclear weapons onboard continued to encircle us. For what? We have only 2 military bases abroad. They are in areas of known terrorism dangers…US bases on the other hand are all over the world. And you are telling me that I am the aggressor? What are the US forces doing in Europe, including nuclear weaponry? What business have they got there?

“Listen to me. Our military budget, while slightly increased from last year, is about $50 billion. The military budget of the Pentagon is almost 10 times that amount….And you’re telling me that I’m the aggressor? Is it us putting our forces on the border of the US? Is it NATO that is moving their bases closer to us?

“Does anyone even listen to us, or try to have some kind of dialogue with us? The repeated answer we get is, ‘Mind your own business, and each country can choose its own security measure.’ Very well, so will we.”

On Russia’s “Day of National Unity”, the Vice President of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, answered a simple question – “Why is our cause just?”.

His answer refers to the battle between Russia and the forces of Satan. Indeed! Russian leaders consider this war, among other things, to be about Spiritual Warfare.

==============================================

“Why are we fighting? Russia is a huge and rich country that has its own lands and the lands where our ancestors lived. These lands are sacred to us and we will not give them away to anyone. Thus, we fight for all our people, for our land and for our millennial history.

Who is fighting us? We fight against those who hate us, who ban our language, our values and even our faith, who instill hatred for the history of our Motherland. The dying world, a bunch of crazy Nazi drug addicts are fighting us, the people are drugged and a big pack of dogs barking from the western kennel.

They have no faith and no ideals, except the obscene habits they invent and the standards of doublethink they impose, denying the morality accorded to normal people.

Therefore, having risen against them, we have acquired holy power. Where are our old friends? Russia does not care about those who abandoned us. This only means that they were not our friends, but just fellow travelers, sidekicks and hangers-on. They are not among us, but we have become stronger and cleaner. We woke up. Many other countries were waiting for the awakening of Russia, and they will soon wake up completely.

And when the rotten world order collapses, it will bury with it all those cynical servants, its supercilious priests sending all enemies to hell. Russia’s cause is just and victory will be ours.

Why have we been silent for so long? We were weak and crushed by timelessness. Now we have driven away the sticky sleep and the sad fog of the last decades, in which we have been plunged since the death of our former Motherland. Soon, following our example, those still oppressed by the West will wake up completely.

What are our weapons? Weapons are different. We have the opportunity to send all enemies to the fiery Gehenna, but that is not our duty.

We hear the words of the Creator in our hearts and obey them. These words give us a sacred purpose. The goal is to stop the supreme lord of hell, no matter what name he uses – Satan, Lucifer or Iblis. Because his goal is death. Our goal is life.

His weapon is an elaborate lie. And our weapons are the Truth. That’s why our purpose is right.”

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/russia-ready-resume-gas-supplies-europe-via-yamal-europe-pipeline-novak-2022-12-25/

He also said that Moscow expects it will have shipped 21 billion cubic metres (bcm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe in 2022.

“This year we were able to significantly increase LNG supplies to Europe,” Novak said. “In the 11 months of 2022 they increased to 19.4 bcm, by the end of the year 21 bcm are expected.”

So Russia, in the midst of a proxy war with NATO and the EU has increased its sales of LNG to Europe by 12% this past year.

Once more for those of us in the cheap seats, What?

In the midst of WWII was the USSR shipping gas to the Fourth Reich?

Please, someone with a greater understanding of international politics, please explain this so we can understand the logic behind such a move.

In a round about way yes. Those financing war care nada who wins or loses, or even which team they are supposed to be on. They have ZERO interests in anything other than wealth and power and EVERYONE is a disposable pawn to be squeezed, drained and cast aside.

It makes sense that Putin sell LNG to his enemies. He’s not against the citizenry, only their insane administrations. So he gets his bank acct statement that shows growth and the ones waging war against him are seeing their accts drained. The citizens stay warm and the propaganda sell that Putin is the enemy becomes a much harder sell, they don’t want war.

Second, and this is very important, and has come from Putin’s own mouth …. Russia keeps it’s contractual commitments.

One can see things dimly, through a fog. Biden’s only interest is personal, hide his corrupt dealings in country 404. Biden’s in charge of absolutely nothing, to include when and what he eats or the drugs he takes. The political class wants the money flow to continue to wash over their accounts. The state wants to hide the bioweapons labs and use up the old weapons and keep the money flowing to the right accounts. It wants to maintain its dominance over the EU and everywhere else it has dominance. It wants an existential enemy not so powerful as China to keep us focused away from its work completely subjugating the people to its forever rule and to maintain its place in the developing world government scheme.

More dimly, Zelensky wants the money to wash over his accounts. He may be in charge of what he eats and what drugs he takes, but that’s about it. Ukrainians remember the Holodomor, it happened just moments ago in historical time, they want the Russians away, but can never have that. The Ukrainian state wants the money flow to continue to wash over their accounts, to remain in power and enjoy all that represents.

The Russians want Ukraine as a friendly border state or a conquered vassalage holding western arms at that little distance.

The aspect of this situation that appears to be lost on most, is that components of the “deep state”, or whatever else you want to call it, have engineered this to be a losing proposition for America.
We have far too many people in our government who are tied to the communist enterprise. We know that Biden is tied to China as is McConnell. We have Sanders and AOC who are avowed communists. Obama came from a communist background and has made his distaste for this nation apparent. There is Ilhan Omar and her cabal of U.S. haters.
We have allowed an infestation of people who hate our particular rule of law. A rule, by-the-way, that almost the entire population cannot comprehend. Even attorney’s seem to be ignorant of our law. It’s disturbing, but considering the fact that professor’s are chosen more for their socialist leanings, its not incomprehensible.
The American people refuse to believe the obvious because they’ve been neutered with the “conspiracy theorist” propaganda designed to put most on their heels for fear that they themselves will be labeled as such.

Knowing true history like few others I am now in sympathy with Putin. In my humble opinion we are about to see Russia finish off Ukraine. Patriots are nothing burgers. If the corpse in the white house with his neocons coerce NATO into direct conflict then Putin will launch. China may join in the fun.
