Assclown unaccountable railroads keep blocking our highway access for extended periods. 1 is just like a 2.5 mile detour, but sometimes it is both which makes it 15 miles to get to the other side of the tracks.
Since they adopted bullshit management methods instead of paying the necessary employees, the major rail roads have gone to shit.
Blocking roadways is nothing new-it is a way for railroads to get what they want from unresponsive governments. Piss off enough commuters going to or from work and they will unload on their local government to do something about it. In a lot of places railroad right-of-ways take precedence over local roadways. Just another form of blackmail.

To be clear train derailments are not that uncommon. An average of about 1700 per year in the US alone. What’s disturbing about the one in Ohio (and possibly others) is the nature of the derailment and how it is being handled. The one in Ohio went from bad to catastrophe. And the federal government appears to be responsible for it.
Certain combinations of hazmat shouldn’t be allowed on the same train.

I propose, if a train is transporting maple syrup, it must also be transporting oats and brown sugar.
It also must not be transporting blueberries unless they are in pancakes.
Also, when you look closely at the derailments, of that 1700 a huge portion are rail yard derails or siding derailments, minor events and not crashes. BUT, the rail system has been degrading over the years with poor maintenance and rail traffic higher in volumes and weights.
I mentioned the other day on rail safety, being its still safer than truck but not as safe as pipeline. Also mentioned that when rail companies put 100+ cars of highly toxic and volatile materials in a string preferring profits over safety, what could possibly go wrong.
This is really negligence of grotesque scales. Blackrock and Vanguard should be required to pay for all damages, clean up and fined several billions of dollars. The should also be required to upgrade all tracking to handle the volume and weights they are pushing downline in addition to modern safety equipment like autobraking. They understand only one thing, fake money so hit’m in the pocketbook.
But what will happen? They’ll grease a few uniparty palms and nothing will get done but perhaps a token fine of a couple million dollars and some nice political donations.
