“Entire Downtown Is Effectively Dead:” Baltimore City Descends Further Into Turmoil

Via ZeroHedge

Downtown Baltimore is plagued with shootings, carjackings, muggings, and out-of-control packs of teenagers wreaking havoc. Baltimore residents can thank five decades of Democrat politicians for mismanaging this once-thriving town.

Earlier this month, the Inner Harbor district was overrun by hundreds of teenagers that resembled an apocalyptic scene from a Hollywood or Netflix movie. The video below might provide some insight into why people are shunning the area, which caused a plunge in foot traffic, making it difficult for retail stores to survive.

This leaves us with local media outlet Baltimore Brew’s reporting about a mall situated on the waterfront, once popular with tourists and residents, had lots of activity, and is now nothing more than a ghost town.

“I knew this place had gone down. But I didn’t know it was this bad!” exclaimed Patel, a California software engineer who recalled eating at a restaurant in the waterfront mall about a decade ago. He said, “I remember it being pretty nice back then.”

All that’s left of the mall is a Hooters restaurant. Baltimore Brew’s pictures show almost every other store has moved out.

… and now, as the media outlet explains, what to do with this prized piece of commercial real estate?

That’s the question before Mayor Brandon Scott and other city leaders, who yesterday gave Harborplace’s new owner, MCB Real Estate, three years to figure out a plan.

Among the other terms of the amended lease that the Board of Estimates approved were three years of rent abatement and up to $1 million for future planning and other costs.

MCB co-founder P. David Bramble says he needs more time to devise a turnaround strategy. The board members who approved the deal did so without questions or comments. (Scott himself was absent from the meeting, attending an African American Mayors Association conference in Washington instead.)

“The entire downtown area is effectively dead,” one person said who commented on Baltimore Brew’s article. They pointed out:

“Who in their right mind would want to risk coming downtown when the news out of Baltimore is all about shootings, carjackings, mugging, and out-of-control packs of teenagers milling about on a semi-regular basis?”

Democrats and progressive leadership in the city have done a wonderful job of taking something nice and destroying it with terrible policy. The consequence is an exodus of businesses, and it’s not just a Baltimore problem. Metro areas with progressive leadership, like Chicago, San Francisco, and Portland, are finding businesses are leaving in droves.

I’m sure glad that “Patel,” who comes from a country and culture where they still shit in the streets, was available to give his perspective on how bad Baltimore is.

If I had to guess, I’d wager that Patel is living in San Francisco, California, which coincidentally, is developing a culture where people shit in the streets.

I’m currently wrapping up a project in Baltimore. Had to go downtown to the harbor area twice. Nice looking area, but lots of homelessness. Unfortunately Baltimore ranks in the top 5 cities yoy for murder rate. Like Chicago, voters keep voting for worse and receive it.
Yes, I had an encounter with a ‘local’ who was clearly out of his tree. I was able to walk away, kept him in my view until I turned a corner. Gotta be on guard.

Is there a reason why people still choose to live in cities? They’re the Betamax of living arrangements. Sometimes things simply become obsolete. The only reason we cling to things is because of some kind of nostalgia, not because it’s useful or relevant. If someone can explain why they’re still there I’d really love to hear about it.

Get out of the cities before you can’t.

The Fox, The Cow and The Sparrow. Remember the moral of that story?

Where you think all those fucking Karens will be headed when the exodus you recommend kicks off?

Yeah. We’ll thin their ranks as they riot through the burbs, but in the end…the very end…? It ends up on your door step. It is now appropriate to note that what arrives will be the battle hardened worst of the worst, and I think you will be shocked by the numbers. Shocked, I say.

Militarily speaking, there’s not a lot of maneuvering room up there in New England.

Militarily speaking?

Do go on.

What exactly do you think they would expect to find in the one place they’ve never been? New England is the Canada of America. No one cares about it, or really even knows it exists except for a brief moment at the front end of a four year election cycle, and then it fades from the public consciousness like a dream.

All they know is that it’s cold, it’s a giant, endless forest, full of granite and bears. That’s where you see the hungry hordes headed, do you? If they move in any direction it will be south, maybe the smart ones will move to the interior, but up here? I doubt it.

Whatever is going to happen is going to happen and niether of us has a clue how it’s going to unfold. The only sure thing is that most people are going to make it through to the other side and the ones best positioned to come out in one piece are those who figured out real priorities before TSHTF. Running away from an urban existence in reaction to a collapse and into the unknown to try and take from the people who’ve been reared in that hostile environment may be a strategy, but it sounds like a piss poor one.

When the dam breaks, you don’t get to tell the water where to go.

And for them, it isn’t ABOUT where they’re going TO…

It’s about what they’re running FROM…which, in all honesty, you ought to factor into the equation as well. Mop up crews have been formed and a plan is being formulated. It’s all about efficiency.

Your fortress will become your tomb. I understand if you’re fine with that. I think I would be. Just don’t make people believe you’ve got “the answer”. There is no answer to what’s coming.

I am probably one of the only people here who don’t think you’re actually some kind of spook, I believe you’re genuine and sometimes I really appreciate your commentary, but you suffer from an extremely depressing perspective that negates most of what you have to offer.

I don’t have “the answer”, in fact I’m not actually looking for one. I’ve made all kinds of choices over the course of my lifetime and from those experiences I’ve discovered which choices benefit and which ones detract. I simply try and align myself with the best behaviors and mindsets to navigate this mortal coil with the least resistance and greatest efficacy. Stocism was a huge help, choosing the right people to surround myself with, place, occupation, etc. to a lesser degree I suppose, but in all life has becomes far less stressful and rewarding by focusing not on what may or may not happen, but on what I can do in the moment with whatever I have as well as I am able.

You seem like a high functioning, fairly intelligent type who probably sits somewhere on what is popularly referred to as the spectrum. Nothing wrong with that, it probably describes myself as well, but your doomy outlook is a real handicap, not so much as it impedes your ability to relate to others- like it has here- but for yourself. You could change that in an instant if you choose to and turn yourself into a real asset. Personally I keep hoping you do.

And not that it matters, but we already live in a tomb, made up of our corporeal presence. Life is simply a state, but what we really are is something that transcends the meat suits we wear and the tribulations we endure.

I really do wish you the best in whatever comes along. Maybe someday you’ll make the trip up here and share a meal and few hours and see the world from a different perspective.

I n a post collapse chaos, it would be almost impossible to travel by land from Baltimore to New Hampshire, and even more so through there into Maine.
If you could manage to get past Pfildelphia and NY City, you’d have to cross the Connecticut River, to do that you’re going to go through Hostile, Springfield or Hartford, good luck with that, or you could try to go across in one of the small communities, but I’m betting that local law enforcement and citizens will have a say on whether or not the golden horde is allowed to pour in and ravage their comunities.

And to get into Maine rinse and repeat at Portland…
Say by some miracle of luck a group of Bawlmor’s best made it into the Pinetree Paradise, trying to do crimes wid their 9s.
Good luck wid dat, about a third of the adult male population has their hunting licenses, and stalking and taking out a deer in the piny woods at 200 yards is a lot harder than a gaggle hooten and holleran yahoo from the inner city.

The other thing is, I seriously doubt that anyone from charm city, or Pfilthadelphia, or the Big Apple who drifted into Maine or the top tiers of New Hampshire would survive the winter, I remember when we were kids living in Penobscot County Maine jumping out of the second floor window into the snowbank that drifted half way up the house.

My grandfather came to this country in 1914 at 16 years old from northern Italy.
His father had died and his mother and sister became his responsibility.
He had training as a blacksmith and had learned new techniques in welding metal. He was sponsored by his uncle who was already established as an American Citizen and got a job at Remington Arms . He sent every dime he could back secure the family home for his mother and sister . Their decedents still own the property there !
He left Remington Arms and came to Baltimore and started a welding business. His business was successful and expanded to car and truck repair .
Later he purchased a bowling alley and the families status as Baltimore Business people grew .
He died at 48 from the same kidney disorder his father his son (my father) and I have .
My father and his sister liquidated all the business property in Baltimore after the Race Rioting in the 60’s ! I was just a kid and had no intrest or control of that issue .
As it turns out they came close to losing everything as the niggers looted and burned areas of the city . Get out while it’s still profitable to do so was the plan .
We all ended up ok with education and financial security to start our lives .
My family never invested another dime in the city .
All those that jumped on the bandwagon for Harbor Place etc… lost their shirts , even under armor could not hang on !
The only way the city housing market survives now is section 8 landlords a true scam upon working taxpayers.
Landlords invest in otherwise nonperforming property bring it up to code and get a check for 2 to 3 times what the renters could actually afford and the city gets the property taxes .
Not a way to have a thriving metropolis as the results prove .
The difference is the city is now a majority black shit hole run by black shit heads and that’s never going to change

My dad got a job working in Woodlawn, Md. for Social Security back in 67 moved from Rye beach, N H to West Baltimore because my mother didn’t want my dad driving into the sun to and from work,
I hated everything about Baltimore especially the people. We left in 72, my parents had had enough after one of our neighbors, he had about 12 kids, big Polish family, was shotgunned to death outside Edomson HS when he was leaving a community meeting over a proposed Highway through leaken park.
As far as I’m concerned they can burn the entire place to the ground
Good riddance.
