How does a school district receive $1.6 billion and then have 13 schools turn out to have ZERO students who test proficient in math?
That’s 40% of the 32 Baltimore City high schools.
To make it worse, those 13 high schools not only turned out zero math-proficient students — 75% of the students scored a one out of four, the lowest score possible.
75% of students!!
This is far beyond education. Something needs to be looked into here, because if this isn’t the result of dirty money finding its way into the hands of the greedy and never making its way to the students, I’ll eat the urinal cake at the Shell station down the street.
The district did reach out to Fox 5 Baltimore, however, but look at this:
But make no mistake: these recent increases [in funding] do not diminish or patch over years of chronic underfunding that has directly contributed to our current outcomes. That recovery takes an equal or more significant amount of time to remediate.
Right now, the facts are clear: City Schools’ students have earned two consecutive years of improved scores on the math MCAP following national decreases during the COVID pandemic. Seven of eight grade levels experienced growth in math between SY2021-22 and SY2022-23, mirroring growth in Maryland overall.
We acknowledge that some of our high school students continue to experience challenges in math following the pandemic, especially if they were struggling beforehand.

A few things to note: Baltimore is nearly 65% black, and some of the schools are nearly all black – administrators, teachers, and students. Wasn’t this segregation the path the BLM folks told us would bring more success for black kids?

I’ll also assume since it’s Baltimore, the ‘math teachers’ are diversity hires who’d be unemployable in the private sector, but can get jobs in the public sector based on their skin color, ethnic group or sexual orientation.

I live in Western Maryland. A few years ago, I did my 4 1/2 years of Electrician Schooling. Most of the people in my first year class were high school or just beyond. We had a few people that were in their 40’s (like me). Our very first night, we were given a math and logic placement test. It was something like 200 questions, and we had 3 hours to complete it. I finished in less than an hour and scored a 99% and I haven’t been in college or high school for about 26 years. Only two people out of forty, other than me, scored over a 50%. Nobody could do math in their head or on paper (calculators were not allowed).
These are the people who are building/ wiring your houses and commercial construction projects…. Think about that!!
